- #Cosmo the #Space_dog (Russian: Космо, romanized: Kosmo) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Cosmo, a telepathic Soviet space #dog is the security chief of the space station Knowhere and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.[1] The character was created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning as a reference to Laika and first appeared in Nova vol. 4 #8 (Jan. 2008).[2]
A female version of Cosmo the Spacedog appeared in a cameo role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), as well as in the Disney+ animated series What If…? (2021). She is voiced by Maria Bakalova in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).

I love how she doesn't even attack him with her physic powers, but just begging him to call her a good dog.
The fact that she keeps asking him to take it back… and then “Nebula! Did you hear what he said to me?? He called me a bad dog and he won’t take it back!!” I have a golden, who even looks like Cosmos, and the actress captures the essence of how a talking golden would sound! I seriously loved this arc.

In the comics Cosmo is originally a boy and one of the things I loved about him was his voice. In the Lego games Cosmo has a somewhat goofy yet playful and friendly what I believe is a Russian accent? In the MCU they swapped Cosmo’s gender and managed to retain the voice to a friendly playful Russian accent with less goofiness. I really loved this version of Cosmo the actress did a great job!
It makes more canonical sense. Cosmo was clearly based on Laika, the first earth being to make it to orbit, and died in the attempt (they had no plan to return her alive). So clearly Cosmo was meant to be her. Female dog.

I wonder how much of this is CGI and how much is the dog looking at treats off camera.

Something I never understood is how Kraglin got the fin to put on his head, because when they burned Yondu’s body at the end of the second movie he still had it on his head.
I know Rocket reassembled the arrow itself, but it was never stated how he made a new functioning fin that was connected to it.
Maybe Yondu had a few spares laying around in case of emergency?

It’s bad enough that Rocket had such a painful backstory, but it’s worse if Cosmo gets called a bad dog.

At first Cosmo was a male dog, but I guess it would be wise to turn Cosmo into a female dog.
It's because the real-life Russian dog Cosmo is based on, Laika (the first animal to journey into orbit), was a female. Since Cosmo = Laika it makes sense for her to be female. Historically accurate change for the MCU, lol

In all fairness, the real-life dog Cosmo is based off of, Laika, was actually female. And the re-swapping of the original swap(?) was to better honor Laika.
