Wow! What a great time on the food tour. Thanks for taking us along to experience all sorts of interesting dishes. Just wish I was there to taste them!
What an amazing guide to traditional Turkish food in Istanbul! The variety and richness of flavors are truly captivating. From savory dishes to sweet treats, it's clear that Turkish cuisine has so much to offer. Thank you for sharing this delicious journey with us.Best wishes, Chiara & Donato Fuoridalsentiero.
What a fantastic comment to get! Thank you so much for the very kind words! My videos focusing on the traditional foods of a country are some of my favorites to make.
"Mıhlama" is actually a Black Sea dish and has started to appear on menus in Istanbul in recent years. If you are still in Istanbul, I recommend to spend more time in Kadikoy and Etiler districts
Thank you for the information! I will actually have segments on both Kadikoy and Etiler in an upcoming video, in which I talk about the top neighborhoods in Istanbul!
I hope you try "kelle paça çorbası" but try it with garlic and hot sauce.. without sauce it is plain, but with sauce godly. full of collagen , nice for your knees
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome That's 1 of the best çorba you can try in Turkiye but not in anywhere.. There are some really I mean really good çorba specialists in Kasımpaşa district..I once tried there in 1 restaurant which was the best ever and I'm 48 Turkish man..
Actually, kurufasulye and rice pilaf combination is the right way to eat. In kurufasulye, there can be pastırma or sujuk, as well. It may also cooked in a casserole too, it gives a kind of smokey taste. There is also a variety of Turkish coffee with mastic gum, its taste is better imo. I also suggest menengiç coffee too, it is made of wild pistachios. I also suggest eating meze with raki, there are varieties of rakı like göbek, yaş üzüm, harman, klasik, yıllandırılmış (aged version of rakı), etc. You can also find fruity wines in Şirince district of Izmir city (maybe you can put in your bucket list). We also have many plant-based dishes like türlü, cauliflower stew, okra stew, green bean stew, imam bayıldı etc. Turkish salads, soups, vegan choices also exist. Kazandibi, tavuk göğsü, ayva tatlısı with kaymak are also prominent Turkish desserts, as well. Some of my other personal suggestions: Ekşili köfte, karnıyarık, biber/kabak dolması(stuffed zucchini, bell peppers), orman kebabı, ezogelin soup, yayla soup, ayran aşı soup(served cold), kısır, piyaz(you can find that white bean salad in a köfte restaurant, served together with köfte), musakka, mücver, Turkish potato salad, semizotu salatası(w/ yoghurt), kadınbudu köfte, izmir köfte, orman kebabı, bulgur pilavı, iç pilav, Turkish lentil köfte, içli köfte, çiğ köfte (must try the one w/ real raw meat in a good kebab restaurant) ıslak kek (Turkish wet cake), açma, ay çöreği, kağıt helva, yaz helvası, Turkish apple cookies, acıbadem cookies, kavala almond cookies, irmik helvası (w/ ice-cream), un helvası, höşmerim, Turkish shortbread(un kurabiyesi), oven-baked sütlaç, tahinli çörek, su böreği, gül böreği, avcı böreği(w/yoghurt and tomato sauce better imo), çiğ börek, kol böreği, cağ kebabı, midye dolma (w/ pilsner beer), su muhallebisi (with rose water), kalburabastı, tulumba tatlısı, lokma tatlısı, yoğurt tatlısı, lor tatlısı, ekmek kadayıfı (Turkish bread pudding). Other Turkish drinks, beverages: Şalgam suyu(better when eating kebab), ayran, boza, sahlep, Beyoğlu gazozu (a Turkish fizzy drink brand you can only find in supermarkets(Eti Nero cookies(similar to oreo but i like more than oreo), Ülker Biskrem cookies, Ülker Probis cookie, Tadelle chocolate bars, Çizmeci Time roll wafers are also good), Beyoğlu gazoz has specific aromas you can't find in other brands). I also suggest in breakfast, sucuklu yumurta, kavurmalı yumurta are also a must try. Breakfast is the most important menu to us. We don't have just one kind of breakfast.
What an incredible list of suggestions! Thank you so much. I will absolutely try to find some of these dishes. You have helped me and hopefully, lots of my viewers!

1- People wouldn't be offended if you refused their coffee as much as she implies. 2- Literal meaning of çiğ köfte isn't raw meat (çiğ et), it's raw meatball (çiğ köfte) 3- Pide or lahmacun are not pizza, I get it's convenient to compare pide and lahmacun to pizza, it's okay, I get it. This way people who don't know any of them would have an idea what they are like but I have to let everyone know just like how pizza isn't Italian lahmacun, pide and lahmacun are not Turkish pizzas. 4- What you had isn't dolma, it's sarma but lots of people uses the word "dolma" for both of them (they shouldn't) (I think it might depend on the region), so it's acceptable to call them dolma since many people would get what you're referring to but I believe if we're introducing people to new things, we should name things correctly. if you're rolling something with stuffing (rice etc) it's called sarma ("sarmak" from "rolling", "roll" etc) so for example you wouldn't call spring rolls dolma, you'd call them a kind of sarma. If you're to stuff something (like stuffing a turkey, "Hindi Dolması") with the stuffing (for example, with rice or with anything actually) it's called dolma ("dolma" from doldurmak, "stuffing", "filling")

In Türkiye, there are restaurants next to each other and somehow they all make a lot of money.
Since I have been here, I have wondered how so many restaurants are able to thrive when there are so many of them.
Sarmanın adı ne zaman dolma oldu?
Mantıken saçma görünmekle birlikte, sarmaya İstanbul'da dolma denir, daha doğrusu İstanbul'lular dolma der. Etli yaprak dolması, zeytinyağlı yaprak dolması gibi..
