    We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
    The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.
    We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
    SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

    Good luck with the project. Consider having the rudder shaft passing through a strong/reinforced pipe with the top being above the water line. This is a great design safety feature not all boats have (in case you have a rudder failure). I believe newer Bavaria yachts introduced the design and other brands started adopting it. Similar designs are available for the propeller shaft but all depends on the propulsion system you'll choose.

      No hole in our boat is gonna be under the waterline, as it was on the last boat 😉

    • @OddLifeCrafting
      @OddLifeCrafting  Месяц назад +1

      And it does match. That is the entire concept of this method of construction. But in order to have less internal structures they use much thicker plates than usual in “normal” framed boats of course there is more tension. But with thicker plates you can weld with less deformation. They been building boats like this for over 60 years and there are many amazing boats sailing until today. Just like our last boat that was also designed by Meta. 😊

    Aluminum is a popular material for yacht construction due to its light weight, strength, and resistance to corrosion.
    However, aluminum yachts can be vulnerable to certain types of damage, such as fatigue cracking or stress fractures, which can be exacerbated by extreme weather conditions or improper maintenance.
    It's possible that these factors may have played a role in the Bayesian's sinking, though again we won't know for sure until the investigation is complete.

    • @OddLifeCrafting
      @OddLifeCrafting  18 дней назад

      For sure every material has it’s weak points. And there are also ways to mitigate that. Like good electricali stalation. Thicker plates to avoid fatigue. And so on. This boat is designed with the strongall method, that means much thicker plates for the same size of boat. And that for sure helps a lot. But again, the Titanic sank, so of course nothing is ever 100% bullet proof 😅. But this is definitely a pretty strong boat for a 43ft. 😊

    Yes that bulkhead is a terrific idea. Just watched a video where there skeg rudder was ripped off in a collision in a steel boat and it started to sink and they were done for. I love unsinkable boat idea. I think Titanic had lots of bulkheads like that one. Lol.

    It is so awesome they let you film the construction as it really shows the uniqueness of the StrongAll method. It's one thing explaining how the hull will be built and it another thing entirely watching the transformation of thick flat aluminum panels into a boat.

    You would have thought that being a supposedly professional boat building company that they would know that the plates are going to need to be manipulated and would have a system of mounting points hard mounted into the floor of the workshop which would allow them to either hydraulically jack up or allow them to attach shackles to allow them to pull downwards. Using the equipment that was shown in the video makes them look like amateurs
