  • I interview Koz Khosravani, an AI and Cybersecurity lecturer at the University of California and local sailor. We meet up for an interview at a local SoCal marina. A couple of months ago Koz was sailing with friends when he spotted a pod of dolphins about 3 miles off the California coast (near Santa Monica). The dolphins directed his attention to what he thought was a human hand coming out of the water. Upon further inspection Koz found a naked woman who had been drifting in the water for 12 hours in the cold water. Koz orchestrated the rescue and the woman was saved.

Koz expressed to me that he feels very fortunate to have taken ASA sailing courses through the Blue Pacific Yachting school shortly before the rescue. www.bluepacifi...

Fascinating story. Do you think the dolphins intentionally led Koz to this woman? Could be. They’re smart. Then Koz did everything right and saved a life. Amazing. Subscribe for more vids. 👍
Also, camera was a bit out of focus for most of the interview, Ugh. Nonetheless, I had to share this incredible story no matter what. Have a great week wherever you are in the world!

Definitely big credit to him for preparing properly, and for being logical and decisive. You just do what needs to be done. In the moment, heroism doesn't even enter the picture, however. Speaking from personal experience, and saving someone's life, I can understand what he meant when he said 'I'm not a hero; I was scared all of the time.' Instincts take over and drive your actions. Analysis of those actions is something which you might do later.

We've had similar stories of finding people that we're out on the water and no one even knew they were there. Two men and a woman were on a fishing boat that was capsized. The radio was underwater and they had not told anyone they were going fishing. We were out cruising around the island and just happened to see them. This woman is very lucky. You are definitely the hero of this event. I had a very similar thing happen six years ago on Lake Erie as a novice sailor after a woman and her boyfriend decided to take a swim from their small boat 3 miles off shore and the wind swept the boat away. I barely heard her cry for help over the radio and just caught a glimpse of her head between the waves. She had been treading water for about 3 hours and was depleted. Sadly her boyfriend disappeared before we found her. My wife and I pulled her to safety and radioed the coast guard who sent a crew out also in about 10 minutes as well as a helicopter to search for her boyfriend. The body was recovered later that evening. Anyway, you did an incredible thing and saved a life due to your training and ability to respond to a crisis. Of course the woman was incredibly lucky you were at the right place at the right time.

He prepared well for emergencies, trained himself and his guests in an extraordinary way, and then he executed a modified version of what he had learned -- brilliantly. My friend (who was much taller & stronger than me) went out into the ocean, farther than I would ever go, . so I challenged myself, went through a little wave 🌊 & made it.
I was saying, “YEAY, . I made it!!!” And was so proud of myself, . . But, . . when I started swimming back to the shore line (she was already half way there), I began to notice. . . I’m not getting any closer at all.
I tried harder & continued failing!
      I became really scared 😱 & yelled out my friend’s name, “V I C K Y Y Y Y Y!”
      She’s like, . “W H A T?!”
      I shouted, “I CAN’T get back in!”
      She’s like, “YES you can!”
      I SHOUTED, “NOOOO, . . I’M SERIOUS, . I CAN’T!!!
      “I NEED YOUR HELP!!!”
She said, “OH BROTHERRR, . . . OKAY.”
Vicky swam right over to me & took me by my hand & pulled me in. (WHEWW!). WHAT a RELIEF!!!
That was the last time I ever did that.
The tide had pulled me out & that exactly what happened to that lady.
It’s extremely terrifying when you find out, you don’t have control over your body anymore & the ocean & the wind, does!

    Great story. California native here.
Getting alerted to an emergency such as this is right up my alley. I used to work for the phone company many years ago before the break up with the so-called "Ma Bell" Telephone Network. I worked in a specialized department that specifically dealt with ship to shore, air-to-ground, marine, vessel assist, emergency boating rescues, and intermittent Coast Guard transmissions. My 'territory' went all the way from the industrial port of Long Beach all the way out to the pleasure port of Marina del Rey. I can tell you from my experience this man did everything exactly right. This is exactly what we tell other boaters to do, when faced with certain sailing, swimming, and man-overboard emergency's situations. As an emergency services telephone operator you always wish and hope that the public responds so well when out at sea.
The fact that he was a first-time newly certified boater, he definitely dotted all of his I's and crossed all his T's.

      "We Are Stronger"
A Poem by Steven F Gooden
We're never as strong, as we are until we have to be. Never Do as much, unless the need we see. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures.
We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. More just than judge. More godlike than unlike. Reflecting Sunlight in our darkest night.
Providing refuge. Never more alive until we die within and begin again. A Human Ark Divine in our human spark.
      by
      Steven Gooden

@@jessicaporte5801 You know Jessica, that's what I thought all through this story. And in my opinion, yes. A frantic swimmer that's in panic mode is potentially dangerous and can take a rescuer down trying to "climb" him/her. However, in this case, the woman wasn't fighting and was barely conscious, according to the captain. So yes, you are right, I think someone should have gone in immediately, to make sure her head stayed above water. But, people are afraid of the potential unknown consequences of things like that, so I understand their hesitation completely. I can only imagine how difficult it was to get her in the boat. It's almost impossible, unless you have a sling under the victim and some strong lifting strength on the boat. Someone in the water is no help at all, since they can't push (they just sink). Thankfully they sure did a great job it seems.

I was a Corpsman “medic” and can tell you from my years of experience very seldom do individuals survive that long in the ocean. Most individuals with either Die of exposure or just both physical and mental fatigue. You are an excellent example as to how important taking basic training not only in sailing but what to do in an emergency. You not only took the initiative to educate yourself but you made sure your guests got a quick crash coarse before you set sail. I wish every person who operates a vessel regardless of what type vessel it is would take classes as you did before venturing out. I’ve flown search and rescues and the fact you even spotted this woman is a miracle. We are trained what to look for and even then finding a person in open water especially one who was submerged as much as she was is almost impossible. The Good Lord was with her fir 12 hours and he sent an angel to her aid. God’s abundant blessing to you and your 3 guests and to the very lucky young woman you saved.

I'm fluent in five languages - that doesn't change the number of people that are fluent in a language other than the languages of their own country, which is quite small. (English is not a national language for an Iranian.)
Less-educated people can also become fluent by exposure.
Fluency is relatively rare. It's not the same as being able to speak another language.
As I said, Ienjoyed the gripping, coherent and chronological way in which he told this story (which was my point), and he did so in a language which is not his native language.

It may sound silly but it seems like the lady who told him about the boat for sale was an angel who knew this guy was a modern person who takes the initiative to take classes, get his license, become an expert when he could have been there knowing nothing about what to do. He invested in equipment, did everything a person could do to be ready for this emergency. He learned about currents, geography, his boat. Did the woman who turned him on to the boat know what was going to happen and knew he was the best person to place on the spot? Dolphins are the Angels of the sea and have helped humans before. It's amazing how this man and his friends rescued the skinny dipper when just weeks before he had no boat. The young lady who told him where to get a boat, is the key that ultimately saved a woman from drowning. I definitely believe the Dolphins led the boat to the woman, they're super intelligent and beautiful.

An amazing amount of luck and truth in finding a lady swept out to sea while skinny dipping.

@@InHisService333 why did your sky daddy let her go through this in the first place just to get her rescued. The actions of a sadist . Think harder for longer.

      @@dennisjamieson3328 "We Are Stronger"
A Human Ark Divine in our human spark.

isn't just what you do but what you don't do. Not just what you did but how you did it. Not just what you said but how you said it. Love is so simple yet the simple make it so hard. Love Is full of knowledge yet even the smart don't get it. Love doesn't cost a fortune yet fortunes are spent trying to gain it. Love does demand of you yet you are not willing to sacrifice for it. Those who only seek what love can give and do for them, do nothing for love and others and in such selfish pursuit, in turn rob themselves of love's best gift. Make this year the year you seek to sow love and not just reap it. Be love and not just think it. Do love and not just say it. Talk love and just don't fake it. Seek love and just don't chase it. Embrace it but don't enslave it, share it but don't dare boast in it. Enjoy it but don't abuse it. Free it and watch it come back. Invest in it and watch it pay back. Wash your life in it, light your darkness with it, eat your food with it conduct your business with it and above all else Serve God in it. For whatever love is and is not, it's all of, for and From Him. He is LOVE! "
