David Foster Wallace: Infinite Jest and a Quest for... Accounting?
Just finished reading an article about David Foster Wallace (Infinite Jest fame) and let me tell you, it was WEIRD. Apparently, after the book's success, he enrolled in TAX and ACCOUNTING classes at a random university (Illinois State, maybe?). Seriously, picture him furiously taking notes on debits and credits!
Who knows what his motivation was? Research for a new novel? A personal journey into the mundane? Maybe a way to manage his mental health struggles?
Whatever it was, I found it strangely fascinating. It might be the most interesting part of the entire book (stay tuned for the full review!)
