Miriam. Oh God, Miriam. I could write a whole essay about how awesome she is. Which I am now going to do. Screw it, I got nothing to lose.
Miriam’s whole character arc is composed of two main aspects: getting better self-esteem, and learning how to get close to people. At the start, she believes herself to be useless. The Bard is, in her words, always rushing ahead. And the Bard’s character doesn’t exactly help it. You see, the Bard is... well, they’re right. They’re almost always on the moral high ground. It’s just the nature of their beliefs and the world favors them. Of course, the Bard is an immensely flawed person, so much that i could write a second essay about it. But I won’t do that. Yet. However, they’re the protagonist, and a force of protagonist-y energy, which makes Miriam just feel like a useless guide. However, as the Bard and Miriam become friends, and they open up to her, she realizes how important she is, to the Bard, and more importantly, how hard the Bard struggles to be who they are. The Bard isn’t a perfect, always happy, always determined paragon. They just put that face on, because bad thoughts... don’t help. And as Miriam becomes more and more important, obtaining two overseers’ songs all by herself, and saving the Bard countless times, the thoughts of inadequacy start to go away. This culminates in the crater scene, which is just as much about the Bard as it is about Miriam. Throughout the game, the Bard has slowly revealed a few of their darker thoughts to Miriam, all in the name of making her feel better, but still. She reached a point in which she’s confident enough to admit how much she looks up to the Bard. She hasn’t become an optimist overnight, but at least she feels a little better.
Just in time for the end of the world.
Of course, there’s a second part to this, but I’ll comment about that in act 7. To anyone who actually decided to read through the ramblings of some idiot who doesn’t know the first thing about writing, I thank you. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
This was super interesting to read, thanks!
best waifu indeed
love it
10/10 would read again
3 years later, but screw it, that was a good lecture of the character
Developer commentary says Dancing was a mechanic made because of this scene
"I didn't know you liked dancing!"
"I don't...usually. But...I dunno. I've been figuring out...a bunch of stuff...about myself....and it's been exhausting. And...I want to dance."
This scene made me realize that Bard has not very good coping methods..
Poor bard :
"I just, stopped thinking about it."
That made me sad
we need bard gets therapy DLC (give Miriam some too I guess)
"I want to dance." Best scene, best character. I love Miriam so much. ❤
So we all agree that miriam is the best?
This entire scene made fall in love with Miriam as a character. Up until this point I thought she was just the straight man to Bard's antics, but this one scene made her character stand out to me and made her goodbye at the end of act 5 much more impactful to the point I actually teared up.
ITS IN WORDS
i was fucking bawling lol
Well I wish I didn't read that lol. I just finished the scene and wanted to find the song.
durring this part i was 100% expecting them to have a "may i have this dance" moment and i felt like should've been dissapointed but the moment was such a vibe that i coul feel nothing but happines
and having them as just great friends was actualy a realy good decision
this scene got me really emotional, man... dancing is great.
the new singer will NEVER be as good as Bard
When I had to create my name I stuck with Burd 😂👌
That's kinda unfair tho, isn't it? The Bard is basically a musical superhero who saves the whole world. xD
My friends and I like to call this one "the vibe scene"
This scene is one of my favorites in the game, from seeing old friends to Miriam's incredible dialogue, but above all else, this is my favorite scene due to Miriam's great dance animations
This whole scene.. man, dude. It’s really relatable.
Like both the Bard and Miriam, I’ve been an outsider my whole life. Honestly, I was a lot like Miriam when I was younger, but while moving around as a kid and having to constantly adapt, in my more recent years I’ve gotten better at social stuff, and deal with things more like the bard does.
I just... I never see stories about true outsiders. Never. The closest I ever get is where the protagonist has lived in one place their whole life, and befriends another local outsider.
But... The bard has always been an outsider. They clearly feel like they don’t belong in their family. They don’t belong in their family. They don’t belong anywhere else.
It makes me happy, that I finally have a story about me.
i just stood in this area dancing for like 20 minute because this music is just so fuckin good
this is my favorite song in the whole ost.
And the fact that Manny's band played it. I just feel it.
This whole track oozes Night in the Woods vibes and I love it for that
to be honest the game in general is kinda NITW vibes+positivity... I love em both... it's true though, this one really reminds me of NITW... maybe because this one has all the instruments in nitw's dream sequence? 🤔
@@VinTJ apparently some of the people who worked on this also worked on night in the woods? so that could explain it
@@VinTJ NITW's ost uses an abundance of accordion, even I am immediately reminded of the ost every time I hear an accordion.
The guy who made wandersong was the voice of Sharkle in night in the woods
some of the creators of both are making a new game together (chicory)
honestly this was the best scene in this game
I actually missed this scene on my first playthrough of the game. I walked into the crater dance floor and saw that it was mostly empty and thought it was just an irrelevant room and left
I sat here in the ambience and had the two dance for 2 hours STRAIGHT because a friend pulled me away to play another game.
This is such a good scene, such good music...overall just amazing.
1:28 is my favorite part
THIS GAME KEEPS GETTING BETTER THIS SCENE ALMOST MADE ME CRY AAAAAAAAAAAA
best song AND best scene in the whole game
best scene
It's really jamming, but can't really listen back to it now without the same atmosphere, it feels quite empty. I need those vibes,..
I'm quite sad I won't be able to play this game for the first time ever again, it was such an experience. Really, quite captivating. I can't capture the same feeling anymore.
I went back after a little bit to replay some scenes, and i think i just drove myself deeper into this hole, reading the comments, looking in the dev room. While they're cool, I'm Regretting that, it's fouled my fond memory and mixed it with that. On top of all that,
I think i ruined a few of the vibes myself while playing, had gotten into some squabbles while playing. But Perhaps that heightened the impact.
Perhaps that sadness/nostalgia is just the track, actually.
I think that might just be it. This tune, it's kinda nostalgic I think? If that's the right feeling I'm getting.
It's just that whole tragic feel I'm getting
I think many people have heard this before, but, 'don't be sad that it's over, be glad that it happened'.
- when i look for a deeper meaning there, it sort of means don't regret what Has happened, seek out the positivity and what you gained from the memories.
I can tell you weren't in the best mindset when you wrote this... emotions are powerful(And so when we choose to steer our own~)
Yeah nostalgia makes you tear up sometimes. Longing for the better times. Especially now...
This is my favorite part of the whole game! The dancing, the dialogue, it’s just amazing!
this scene honestly made me cry
and now I'm doing it again
god dang it
This is such a bop, holy shit.
Anyway, this was easily my favourite scene, really hit different.
Absolutely best scene
Almost 3 years later and this song still fills my heart with emotion while also making me wanna dance
This scene made me so emotional
Ghost Mom, Wandersong, and The Crater are the three moments in this game that make me cry every time I play through it. This whole game plays the strings of your emotions as masterfully as the score handles all its other instruments, and I appreciate that this whole mood is tucked off in an obvious corner, but still one that can easily be passed over. It's a rewarding moment of vulnerability and humanity, a scene which puts a lot on your plate before reminding you that sometimes, you just want to dance it away for a bit, and that's fine.
one of the best scenes in the game
I just love how there's 0 dislikes. I'm 2 years late, but it makes me incredibly happy
I JUST realized this is the same melody as Fight For the Forest
What's that?
@@AngryNerdBird The theme from earlier in the game; the Spell Squad fighting the monster in the woods
WHAT
what is the name of the song they cover together with bard?
it's called a leitmotif. most games' soundtrack have this. a certain melody repurposed in similar areas, or the song at the final of the game referencing the first song you've heard. it's almost everywhere? I think?
I regret not seeing this scene on my first playthrough
This song will never fail to put me in a good, dancing mood :3
This song fit that scene perfectly
I feel like there's a reference to Miriam's theme here, but I could just want to hear that
Really captured the rave vibe in this one!
Really am late to the show. Love this one
I can't believe this game isn't more popular even till now. Surely people shouldve found this game by now
It kinds sounds like the jsab factory theme
This is my favorite scene from any video game.
For some reason, this reminds me Ode To A Room from Sword & Sworcery EP.
Favorite scene
Does anyone know what instrument that is that kicks in alongside the accordion right at 7 seconds? I'm trying to arrange sheets, and I'm stumped on WTF that is.
Sounds like just pure synth from a music program
Mohabumi (and seemingly Chaandesh/Act 5 altogether) seems to use a looottt of synth.
The dance, the character development, that damn cheeky smile...
I’ve never shipped MiriamxBard harder in my life!
Idk about this new guy
Yay no one disliked this video
Wow...this is still true...amazing.
