I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today!
I saw Pearl Jam on LOLLAPOLOOZA 92 with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Soundgarden, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill…
Temple of the Dog was an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. It was conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of the bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. The lineup included Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar, Jeff Ament on bass guitar (both ex-members of Mother Love Bone and future members of Pearl Jam), Mike McCready (later Pearl Jam) on lead guitar, and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden and later Pearl Jam) on drums. Eddie Vedder appeared as a guest to provide some lead and backing vocals and later became lead vocalist of Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam's debut album, Ten, was released four months after Temple of the Dog's only studio album.
Make sure you react to they're song say hello to heaven it's Chris putting his grief over Andrew on song. Do not do the live version the album track is better
Chris Cornell had just lost one of his best friends to an OD. That friend (Andy Wood), was the lead singer for Mother Love Bone, who were a rising Seattle band. The Temple of the Dog project was a tribute to Andy. That project had some of the remaining members of Mother Love Bone, and Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden. Eddie Vedder was going to be the new singer for what became Pearl Jam. This song was the first time any of us heard Eddie Vedder, and were struck with how rich and emotive his voice was/is.
Pretty cool song. Before Eddie Vedder joined Pearl Jam the band was called Mother Love Bone. Their lead singer, Andrew Wood, was Chris Cornell's friend and roomate. Wood died of a heroin overdose, and the Temple of the Dog project was a one-off tribute to their late singer and friend. As you said, it was Vedder's first recording with his new bandmates. The two voices together were magic.
Only two of the 5 members of MLB are in Pearl Jam. I consider them two separate but relaxed bands.
Actually most of the songs in this tribute band was co written by Lt. Andrew Wood but this buddies didn't even cared to give the share of royalties to the demise family so that family sued TOTD...
@HisseyGyatso I have never heard of this and it doesn't make sense as just about all of the songs were written either after he died or by Chris while on tour with Soundgarden. I even did a quick Google search and found nothing that backs this story.
Kurt,Eddie,Chris,Layne,Scott are grunge gods!!!! Never enough we need more!!!
Lanegan
I'm 30 years into my Eddie Vedder obsession lol keep it up!
That's awesome! 😁
Same!
That grin Nikki gives when Ed first starts to sing 🙂
When this song was released it was the first time the general public heard Ed’s voice since Pearl Jam’s debut album Ten had not been released yet.
I couldn't contain my excitement 🤭
Tenth like 👍🏻
I was a teenager in the 90's and this song was, and still is just an amazing piece of music 🎵.
2 of the best Rock lead vocals together amazing!
MARK LANEGAN singer from SCREAMING TREES is another fantastic and unique voice from the grunge era
69 years young and still on my Eddie journey! From the first note I ever heard til now!
I can see why!
Chris has an huge catalogue and there will be a plethora of suggestions. A nice one to watch on your own time is 'Chris Cornell - Seasons (Studio/Jam)' someone just picked a camera up in a practice session and caught it. Have a fun day
One of my all-time favorite albums. Every single song is fantastic.
If Eddie’s voice was a house 🏠 Eddie would be the foundation and Chris’s voice would be the roof!
I like that. 🤔😁
both awesome iconic singers
Chris Cornell wrote and sang all the songs on the Temple of the Dog album in 1991... Eddie Vedder (who had just joined Pearl Jam) sang on 3 tracks including 'Hunger strike'... The album itself was a product of Chris Cornell mourning the death of his friend Andrew Wood, who died from an OD in 1990... The songs were mostly dark & heavy w/ emotion, which is why they were not for a Soundgarden album.
Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron was enlisted for drum tracks... Andrew Wood's bandmates in Mother Love Bone, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament signed on to work on it w/ Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and vocalist Eddie Vedder. They said that there was no pressure or expectations from their record label and were proud of the record.
Other songs included - 'Say hello 2 heaven' ... "Pushin' back forward" ... 'Wooden Jesus'... 🤘🤘
In 1995, Layne Staley of Alice In Chains also recorded and released an album as Mad Season w/ Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready... drummer Barrett Martin and bassist John Baker Saunders... titled 'Above'... It was a mellow record and was sadly the only one Mad Season did... Both John Baker Saunders and Layne Staley passed away in the years afterwards...
Pushing forward back
I remember watching the video for Hunger Strike on MTV when I was a teenager.
I already knew of Pearl Jam even though this was recorded and released prior to the formation of PJ.
If I remember correctly this video became popular after PJ broke big.
Grunge was a PNW thing long before it became mainstream throughout the rest of the country. You had your OG bands and then record labels were singing virtually any band that resembled that sound to capitalize on its popularity.
Amazinggg voice chris
Just recently found out that Eddie and Bruce Springsteen are good friends! Was a big Springsteen fan back in the day and finally saw him live in 2000.
Lifelong PJ fan here. Well actually all grunge. I just subscribed. Love your music reactions. I've asked so many channels this and no one has reacted to it so I'm now asking you. Can you please react to Chris Cornell live at the Troubadour. The song is called When I'm Down. Please!!!!!
So good
Two extreme. Voices. Both amazing
Great reaction! I suggest (like the rest of us first saw them on MTV on repeat in 1991) any of the Soundgarden hits of the time (eg. Outshined)....see Chris Cornell like we all saw him at first (back when MTV was actually good lol).
Oh I remember when this came out, I was completely enamored with Eddie, I wondered who this beautiful man was, then Pearl Jam hit. "Say Hello 2 Heaven"!! And "Call Me A Dog", "Pushin Forward Back" and "Four Walled World".
That's awesome you got to experience it in that order. Hello to Heaven is winning the poll right now but I'll be sure to check the others out over time as well! Thank you!
@@nikkireviews what was funny was I found out he was from my city, San Diego! Like, why couldn't our paths have crossed in the music scene there 🤦🏻♀️ it just was never meant to be 😂 I'm definitely watching in the meantime, not to worry!
I'm never sick of hearing Eddie Vedder!
Me either! 😁
Two of the best voices ever
This IS MY STYLE! Love Eddie and Chris R.I.P.
Yeah, nice and mellow, hanging out on the beach jamming just a couple hundred yards away from the sewage treatment plant lol. (That's the West Point lighthouse in Discovery Park in Seattle).
Amazing reaction...I'm so glad your getting introduced to the Pearl Jam story /Eddie Vedda an the start of the band it amazing story of the 3 song tape that Eddie sent back to them. For Chris Cornell solo ...love for you to react to...Nothing compares to you XM live Version or even audioslaves ..Like a Stone . But keep up the amazing work 😊😊
Great vocalists.
So good!
How woukd anyone EVER get tired of these two grunge legends?
Odd to watch this now, 30-plus years after the fact--everyone in this band, except Chris, wound up in Pearl Jam. Even though this record is Chris's passion project, the last time they all played it together was at Pearl Jam's 20th Anniversary shows at Alpine Valley, and Chris was the guest.
That poll must have popped in so fast i blinked and missed it,lol.Yes was almost wondering Nikki really concentrating on Chris singing or something up,,than Eddie comes in and there goes that smile coming through.
Yes Chris and Eddie two great voices of grunge.
They are both amazing! And yes, I couldn't contain my happiness hearing Eddie's voice. 😂
2 ❤Grunge Greats...
I, too, am on an Eddie Vedder journey. Yesterday I was watching Eddie singing with the rolling stones. He also has one at the Kennedy center singing U2's "One". And there's a lot more!!
Call Me A Dog by Hunger Strike is amazing ❤❤❤❤
RIP, Chris. It still doesn't seem real.
Fuuuuuuucking. Timeless 💯🤷🏼♂️😮💨😮💨💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🔥🥲
So good 😁
Great song I go skating to this song
That's fun ☺️
Check out another song off this album that no one has reacted to. The Song is called Pushing Forward Back and it kicks ar§e .
Chris and Eddie together, that's gold, Jerry, gold! Eddie said Chris was like a big brother to him. PJ is maybe my least fave of the Big 4...but still incredible, really like them too.
🙋♂️just stumbled upon this channel.
We don't mind more Eddie V or Chris C music at all, keep 'em coming
You gottttta listen to Love Hate Love by Alice in Chains, or Man in the box or somethin
Love Hate Love is coming soon! 😁 That's been a high demand one.
Say Hello 2 Heaven 💯
I love Hunger Strike but it just doesn’t compare.
It's currently winning the poll. 😉
@@nikkireviews Awesome 👏🏼
It’s about consumerism and how it’s the rich corporations preying on the poor and now that they are selling lots of albums and the average person is buying them they feel like they are becoming the predators.
It's about the rich never having enough while others go hungry.
This is Eddie before Pearly Jam, fyi. but also Chris and Eddie synergize nicely.
Yeah! I had no idea until this video. That's really cool. ☺️
I heard that Eddie's Grandma name was Pearl and she made some serious jam with hallucinating properties.
RIP Chris. Can you please do a reaction video of (Release) Live from Holland by Pearl Jam.
This is the only song Eddie was featured in on the album.
I was wondering about that!
NEXT SAY HELLO 2 HEAVEN By TEMPLE OF THE DOG LIVE THE MOORE GREAT IDEA 🔥
It's in the poll and is currently winning! 😉
@@nikkireviews Please react to more Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, & his solo stuff, all great. RIP
Do Chris Cornell's version of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.
Layne and Chris have a song together along with Jerry and mark Arm called Right turn
One of those songs that is repetitive, but it works, 2 legendary singers
Temple of the Dog was an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. It was conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of the bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. It had members from Soundgarden and Mother Love Bone. Chris invited Eddie to sing and later suggested that Mother Love Bone members and Eddie get together to form a new band. They called it “Pearl Jam”.
"I don't mind stealing bread from the mouth of decadence...."
You want to know what I'd like to see ? I'd like to see your reaction to Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" versus the folk legend Johnny Cash's version. That will make for a really cool video worth whatever editing you do.
Awesome reaction. Can you please react to Alvin Lee/ the bluest blues.
Gotta do Black by pearl jam mtv unplugged
Yes! Very soon. 😁
I miss Chris 😢
Check out Alice in Chains Right Turn as has Chris Cornell and Mark Arm from Mud Honey its FIRE!
I will add it to my list! Thank you. All these bands are intertwining with each other - I love it!
Awe you married.....I seen this in 92..,,
🔥🔥🔥 check out Chris Cornell‘s cover of prince’s Nothing Compares 2U
I'm intrigued. 🤔
Mother Love Bone is next
You should check out the Band Superheaven (Grunge) I would argue def a top 10 grunge band.
Songs: Leach, Youngest Daughter, Next to Nothing, Gushin Blood, All the Pain, Dig into me
Couple songs are hard to understand words, so add lyrics if you are into lyrics. I am not, so they do not bother me.
Those people wish they could sing like Eddie
You should react to the song Alive by PJ
“I don’t mind stealing bread from the mouths of decadents” read the rest, and you can make up your own mind about the lyrics. Walk a mile in another man’s shoes. I was in the Military, I gave everything to Kid’s in the Country I was in, the Elderly, Disabled, Woman, Mother’s, Homeless. I’m not throwing it in the trash. It’s still in the wrapper. Who the hell am I.
I do mind stealing bread? Decadents or anyone else.
Have you done Tool yet? Check out the Pot plz
I haven't! I'll have to dive into them soon.
Could you please react to Tremonti Marching In Time
let me recomend Chris doing nothing compares to you
Who could be sick of Eddie V?
Everyone here talking about Eddie's voice when Chris is the real man, not that Eddie's voice is bad i'm just sayin
Chris was undeniably one of the greatest vocalists of all time. However, his abilities differed from Eddie's, and vice versa. Each possessed their own unique skills.
This is a both/and situation not an either/or. What a wealth of talent they both are displaying, not to mention the band…
Both are amazing in their own unique ways, and this song would be far worse without both of them together. Their voices are both amazing and it's pointless and stupid to try to compare them objectively.
What? You have no idea!
They are both amazing
Eddie is the best.
Ironically, Pearl Jam did not yer exist. Eddie Vedder was in town as part of his final audition - woukd they get along with him. Yet this is the current line-up of PH as Matt Cameron became their 4th drummer after Soundgarden first broke up.
Say Hello to Heaven is on this album and one of Cornell's greatest vocals.
good old times... i am so happy to be born in 72 and could listen all that great bands in their prime and must not listen swift, gaga, grande, english or all that crap...
I'm actually a fan of those artists too but I've really been enjoying learning about all the music I missed out on from back then. It's a shame it took me this long! 😬
I was born in 1971 & I consider myself pretty lucky to have been a music lover in my 20’s during the 90’s however I didn’t realize it was so good that it was pretty much rocks last really big hoorah 😞🤷🏼♂️🤘🏻🖤🤤 but I was wrong
I think I'm in the minority that I actually prefer Eddie's voice in this song over Chris.
I miss:
Bon
Layne
Chris
Kurt
Scott
More and more every day.
Sounds to me like their rejection of partaking in the disgusting activities of the elite.
