Best thing that happened in boot camp was when a Navy recruit jumped the fence into Marine bootcamp, and we kept him in our platoon for a week before sending him back. He was pretty happy to go back to Navy boot camp.

I joined in 1998 and even then the DS were not suppose to cuss so it got funny hearing "doggone", "dadgum" all the time.

Being from an older generation, (not that damn old,) I look at how limp wristed things have gotten and can't help but think that even the old school Air force were more hard core than the army we have today.

I was in from 2003-2017. I was a DS at Jackson 2009-2011. Getting to see these young boys and girls become men and women was a truly incredible and humbling experience.

US Army and I'ma say the Air Force has the best DS. They are strict, loud, intimidating, and always produce the best DS and soldiers ever.

The drill Sargent when I was in were loud cussed up a storm and were harsh there's a reason. If your gonna break they want to try to make it happen in basic not over seas in the shit.

Best thing you can do is subvert a DIs expectations and do EXACTLY what they tell you to. My best friend did that. They told him to fall on his face, being the smartass he is, he did, broke his nose, and the DI was like, "Damn" "Okay youre good" and moved on.

5:55 the shorter, tan drill sergeant in the middle was my drill sergeant in AIT. Shoutout to ds Hernandez, he was a chill drill sergeant who really wanted us to know our regulations well, but he was pretty lazy when it came to weekends and left us hanging.

During shark attack circa 2012, while holding my duffle above my head for a long time (at least I thought at the time lol). I hadn't been harassed for about 2-5min I think, DS came by and knocked my duffle from my hands. Immediately ordered to pick it back up, hands slick with sweat.... My right hand slipped and fell on the brown round. Moving it roughly 1cm down and to the left...... Im confident I was less scared the first time I took contact hahahahaha

not a soldier here, atypical quiet timid reserved guy, but i grew up with a big brother and a loving but firm dad, im grateful for every insulting get barked down for asking a stupid question situation or just a berating for being incompetent at something feels super unfair at the moment but one day you find yourself on shaky ground keeping others on track and feeling secure in your confidence and capability. growth requires incentive not feeling stupid and incompetent is a powerful incentive. no yelling military? sounds like pussies in training

I went through basic last year. They cussed. They did all the things people said they weren’t allowed to anymore. Granted I’m sure it wasn’t nearly close to the same as years prior. But it didn’t seem like they tried to go easy on us like some people say. Just my experience though

I was in MCRD San Diego in 2006. We had a drill instructor that no joke was 5'2. I'm 6'2. Little hispanic guy. Scary as all hell because he'd DISAPPEAR and reappear when and where you least expected it. The problem was that when he got in your face he was at your chest. So when he yelled you were getting sprayed up at. Neck, Chin, jaw, and up into your nose. And that was if it was a short getting yelled at. If he wanted to go at you he'd make you get down on your knees so he could yell at you at his level.
I was at MCRD San Diego in 2006 too. That sounds like a DI we had in Mike Company.

@@BrotherJApologeticsyou will need 6 months as a pfc and then two years time in service to advance to e-4 then you will need 8 months time in grade as an e4 and 36 month time in service along with going to the promotion board passing that and then meeting your point requirement by mos to Advance to SGT. Make sure your BRM and Pt Test are up to date and that you meet height and weight requirements as well. You might need education as well. Good luck PFC. I was in the army 2004-2013. Also make sure your NCO’S want to send you to the board they don’t have to don’t be late don’t be a Profile Ranger and make sure u use sick call only when absolutely necessary. Don’t give them reasons not to send you.
