    When I started fan-funding, one of the goals I never thought I'd meet promised Gentleducers they could choose which motorcycles I buy, review, mod, and resell. Well, they very generously met that goal, and the Zongshen CSC RX3 Cyclone, a 250cc Dual Sport Adventure Motorcycle, is the first they've chosen!
    I'll hold off on giving much of a review until I can put some serious miles on it, thrash it a bit in the dirt, and rev it above 5000 rpms (the break-in). For now, I suggest holding on to your money.

    I bought a 2015 RX3 for my wife and after she rode it for a while we thought something must be wrong with it as nothing had broken and it was still running. So I purchased a second one for myself thinking surely hers must be a fluke. After 14 months of riding them with no issues we are terrified by the thought of one or both breaking down. We would love to sell them before something serious goes wrong with them but every time someone calls to come by to look at or buy either one we are out riding them. At this point I am at my wits end on how we are supposed to get rid of these crappy Chinese motorcycles if they don't stop running long enough to sell them? I am looking forward to seeing your review and love your viewpoint into all things motorcycle.

    I rode one and was impressed by its overall capability, features and sturdiness. It really benefitted from turning in the rebound adjuster 3 clicks on the rear shock. Not a bad bike for the money.

    Well, this oughta be good. I sold my DR650 to get an RX3. No, it's not perfect, but its actually a pretty good bike for MY needs. I wanted nicer, but could buy 4 to 6 of these brand new, for one new Triumph, BMW, Ducati etc, so this is what I have. Zongshen makes more than 1,000,000 engines per year, the largest manufacturer in the world of engines. Now they make bikes to put them in. I think it's the type of bike that would "fit" for lots of folks, but whom are hesitant to buy "Chinese crap." I bought one because I am secure in my manhood and my riding. I don't care if it's "only" a 250, or that it's Chinese. I'm not trying to impress anyone, nor make friends just because of the kind of bike I ride. If you met me and like me, or dislike me, ride with me or choose not to, it won't be just because of what bike I'm on. All that said, I think lots of folks are in anticipation of your review, mods, and how the bike holds up.

      Many of us aren't skeptical of CSC bikes because they're "Chinese crap," but rather because availability of parts is so limited, it's difficult to consider them for more testing adventure rides. When things break, will you be able to trust that you can easily repair them in less than ideal situations?

    • @WorkingHonda
      @WorkingHonda 8 лет назад +3

      Parts are available. Every part - from the back tire to the front and everything in between. Time from order to my doorstep is usually one week. And they are cheap, so costs to fix things that you break are low.

    i actually had one of these zongshen clones, mine was under the brand name of tmec. beyond reliable, it broke often in places that were sometimes a bitch to fix, but it never stopped running. and i mean never. 6 months of having that bike and someone cuts me off and i gave a great big hug to an acura at about 50mph. still breathing, thankfully. still walking, miraculously. and guess what, its still running, probably by another miracle, so yes these bikes arent half bad in my book. good luck with it, youre gonna love it!

    THANK YOU for doing this, actually. My friend just got his first motorcycle, a CSC TT250. He loves it, but I can already see he is going to struggle with it. He isn't new to wrenching, but he is to motorcycles and I am just worried for all the reasons you described. He is one of your biggest fans, too. So thanks for doing this review, I'm excited to see more.

    I can't wait to see future reviews of this bike from you! The content already available is good but may be biased like you said. I have been looking at this bike since it was released and from my own research seems like a good machine. For me it is still a contender for my next bike purchase. Though the Honda Africa Twin has my attention as well. My head says buy the Honda, My wallet say's buy the CSC. So your input on this bike will be much appreciated.

    I have a neighbor here in California who owns one and I saw it parked outside and as a skeptic, and a mechanic, I had to look it over. Other than the quality of the metal, the technology definitely seems to be on part with most of then other bikes out there. I was actually impressed with how the bike was built. I think time will definitely be the telling factor, no amount of inspection can speak for the quality of the internals. The common complaint of Chinese bikes is usually the hardware... bolts, bearings etc. I hope this turns out to be a great bike because it is a great design and a great entry into the lightweight adventure market.

    Interesting, well on the outside, it looks like a cool bike. Oddly enough at a glance the panniers on this bike look simular to the ones Honda sells for the Honda Africa Twin. Keep us posted my friend. Keep up the great videos and have a blessed week my friend.

    Hey man. You have heard from me many times before, but this time it is on a subject ( bike ) that really hits home with me. I have been on the fence about buying a RX3 for something like 2 years now. It was almost my first bike when I got back into riding again after a 17 year absence from the cycle world. I can not stress enough how excited I am that you now have a RX3 to give your unbiased HONEST review on! THIS is what I have been waiting on. I don't want to say that I don't trust my fellow chinariders forum members, , , , , but, , , , , , well like you said sometimes some owners tend to sugar coat their reviews. I review things as they are, and my videos prove that. AS DO YOURS! :-D I know there is always the chance that out of thousands of RX3's manufactured there is always the possibility that the one you have just bought is a lemon. OR, it could be one of the best Zong has ever made off that assembly line. Having that been said, I look forward to your future reviews on your RX3. I will say this, I have yet to ever hear one bad review of the CSC company itself. So at least that much is going good.

    I like it. Looks good. Even though the plastic is kinda cheap and the cases are painted cardboard boxes, I'd still have fun. Funny when AZDD and I were at the bike show the CSC guys said, "If it breaks we send you a dvd on how to fix it" ?!! Gotta love that!!! Still... 2wheel fun!! Cheap too!!

    • @juanro22
      @juanro22 8 лет назад +1

      The plastics are pretty good, I have one since almost a year now, dropped it a few times, nothing major but lots of oops! both riding it and in my garage, and they held well. The cases are rather small (none will fit a full face helmet) but also pretty sturdy and reasonably weather proof. If you visit my channel you'll see a few videos of it.

    I took mine to Newfoundland and back from Upstate NY (4000 miles) and it did alright. Keep in mind I have a 15k Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX in the garage right next to it. It's a good inexpensive ADV bike with a strong road bias. I'd actually compare it to a CB300F in ADV clothing more than a DR650 or KLR. Despite the limits the thing will get you absurdly far into nasty conditions because the crash bars are excellent and you know the parts are cheap. Mine's at 7000 miles and counting. My dad picked up the TT250 which is far less expensive and the right choice if you want dirt road performance for about half what the RX3 costs. It's honest weak points for me were limited travel suspension in dirt, very weak front brake, a "4.2" gallon tank that's more like 3.5 to empty, noise on long duration trips (10-12 hours in saddle, it's loud on high RPM). The luggage is quite cheap and leaks like crazy in heavy rain and small. I experienced 29mpg in heavy headwinds with a top speed of 51mph at it's worst along the coast of Newfoundland on flat stretch's.

    I am looking forward to your in-depth review of this motorcycle with great anticipation! I want to add a dual-sport bike to to my stable, but want to keep the money spent low. This bike has been on my radar for over a year.
    After watching Spicy110's RUclips videos of him riding on his Chinese made bike for an extended amount of time. They seem to have a decent build quality. I think they would be similar to how Honda's and Hyundai's were when they first came to North America.
    I'm sure that they are not equal to the 'big four's" build quality, but they might be good enough as long as you don't thrash on them too hard. Can't wait to see your review!

    Neat to see the crowd went with something outside of the "what everyone else has done reviews on" box. You don't have to look around too hard for something on Hondas, Kawi's, or DR variants, but the RX3 brings something different to the table. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

    I have lots of experience with the early XR/CRF50 based Chinese "pit bikes" and even raced highly modified versions competitively for a few years back in the early-mid 2000's. And while I still own two of them that I modified with big bore kits, trick suspension, ect... I even had a good amount of experience with the Chinese ATV's as well (used to write for ATV Magazine) All I can say about them in general is they aren't necessarily bad, but they aren't necessarily good either. They do fit a market, but that market is for people who have a reasonable amount of mechanical skill to overcome some minor adjustments and design defects. However all my bikes and ATV's that I came in contact with were straight out of the crate, meaning no dealer/distributor setup. So that meant some bolts might not be tight or a few small parts missing, however to be fair I have bought Jap bikes in the crate with missing or loose bolts too. Looking forward to your assessment of a "used" China D/S mock Adventure bike.

    I think this is going to be a great bike for a review. Since I watched this reveal I went and dug up more research on the company and their products and its looks like they got some interesting stuff going on. I think this review will help determine many people's opinions on this bike. If this bike can hold up well, it could be an amazing budget deal. Only after more extensive testing can we know. I appreciate the way Tyler went out of his way to try to get the most objective review possible because there's going to need to be the maximum amount of trust here to make sure people know they're getting the honest truth.
    I do have a question that I hope will be covered in the review, but if I can get a response here that would also be great: I know Tyler bought the bike used, but if someone were to buy the motorcycle online, what would it be like to register this thing? Does it come with a title that's filled out when you order it, or what's the deal here?

    As far as things breaking, I've owned 4 Suzuki and various name brand bikes over 25 years. for the past 10+ years, even my big name local megastore doesn't stock tires, tubes, sprokets, for any bike I've owned (DR650, Vstrom, Bonneville etc) ...I would almost guarantee the same result for your bike. Good luck getting more than the most basic of parts at a walk up parts counter. So far, we have to buy parts from CSC instead of large online retailers, but other than that it's the same.

    • @riomx
      @riomx 8 лет назад

      What big name local megastore stocks motorcycle parts for any make? I don't go to Walmart or Super Target expecting to find parts locally for any motorcycle. If I really need something in a pinch, I go to a dealer. Often they'll have what I need or can have it in the next day.

    It's interesting that so many people seem to have a very negative bias towards that bike (at least initially). I read a great article in (I think??) Cycle World where they specifically noted that bias. Parts would be my biggest concern but my (admittedly somewhat ignorant) understanding is that the engines are simple and like a KLR can be co-erced to work with duct tape and bailing wire. Will be interesting to see what you think long term as you seem to be starting from a very negative initial opinion. Regardless....will be fun to see where this ends :-)

    Good information Tyler! I have seen these bikes popping up in my news feeds on Facebook. Also as for the bike being "Chinese" both my bikes are from the same region the DRZ400 "Japan" and the Kawasaki ZX6-R. which makes me wonder is this a startup company that is just trying to get its foot in the door much like Honda did with cars back in the 70's-80's in the U.S. market. There is also the other thing that I seen somewhere on the interweb that over in China or Japan they don't have a "copyright" of sorts so they can build vehicles that look a lot like the higher end ones here at a fraction of the cost. My first impression looking at the bike is that is looks a bit BMW/Triumph. I could go on but this is already getting a bit long. Great video, looking forward to seeing what you think about it!

    hey guys I'm going to chime in on the Chinese bikes and just one thing I agree with everyone is the parts are really hard to find I have 2004 Quan maxfine 150 dual sport and it's been an awesome bike but parts wise I've had a lot of trouble finding, I am currently looking for a 21"x1.4 front rim for it but I haven't found one at all other than that the bike is great, can't wait to see more about this review on the dual sport.

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman 8 лет назад

      Saw you comment. Googled your bike up and took a look. That engine is based around the Honda XR200 and most internal parts are identical. I have had several apart. As far as your electronics (like the ignition parts) are pretty universal with any other 150cc-200cc vertical Chinese engines. Now the rest of the bike IS junk, like the suspension.

    • @noedelacruz5910
      @noedelacruz5910 8 лет назад +1

      +thejunkman yeah the rear suspension is pretty bad I've been looking to replace the shock absorber for a better one but I'm yet to find something that will fit and work

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman 8 лет назад

      Typically just measure the eye to eye length and then start searching the internet. You may have to buy and return a few times to get something that is the spring rate you want but it can be done. Just find a place that has a good return policy. I do this a lot with my projects, even vintage bike mods, because you never know what may or may not work. I also have the luxury of fabing up some of my own parts when I need to though.

    • @noedelacruz5910
      @noedelacruz5910 8 лет назад

      +thejunkman yeah that is nice to have a shop to fab stuff up man but I'll keep looking for the parts but I did some research and found out that the hawk 250 has the same tire and wheel as mine so I might just pick one up

    I'm quite interested, I like this choice the best. Chinese quality is going up, like it or not, so it's interesting to see how a Chinese design like this from the ground up is. It's not just some cheap rip-off copy/paste type job, it's their design from a blank slate..

    The Zongshen CSC RX3 Cyclone 250 is a good copy of the Polish Romet Adventure (ADV) 250. I am currently working on ADV's as a beginner motorcycle because I expect to acquire a license for driving motorcycles next year. My research went from choppers to touring bikes and adventure bikes. Important is also the position of the legs. If you are bent too long when driving, you want to stretch them. In my height probably the entry for a chopper will not be good. Forward set footpegs and a barely accessible handlebars. I am 168 cm tall. When I watched some videos with the Romet ADV 250 and other adventure bikes, I saw a good sitting position (upright) and a good leg posture. That really appealed to me and I think I know what kind of bike I'll buy. Also, the prices of these entry-level bikes are very cheap. Which bike would you drive?

  • @normandegeorge6526
    @normandegeorge6526 6 лет назад

    Well we live in America and it is a great place to live. But if this bike proves to be any good it won't be any cheaper than a Suzuki or Kawasaki. If it isn't any good it will be priced at a point that will make you think it's cheap. It looks awesome!
    By the way, Chinese have great buffets!

    other than the parts concern, im very pleased, that for the first time,
    somebody cares who could it be able to ride it.
    that's an inclusive thought.
    so, even senior fellas shouldn't be concerned about the weight of the bike. women and short people.
    plus a 250CC engine it's a good idea saving gas.
    i used to think wrong about 250cc until i bought one.
    then i bought another one,
    kymco brand name.
    taiwanese.( Chinese with top quality mentality.)
    kymco. thousands of these bikes selling in Italy, israel, asia, usa, canada etc.
    i use mine in the freeway 2 or 3 times a week for 3 hours whole trip no problem at all. and im planning a trip from LA to Washington in this 250cc all confident.
    so problem if its chinenese.
    and finally it's a beatiful bike. buy it if you like no hesitate for this video.
    there's a video recorded. here in yutube of a teenager and his dad crossing the usbin 50cc's i think from san francisco to new yok.and one of them in a chine scooter.....

    as cool looking these are, the biggest issue isn't neccisarily reliability. The issue with every Chinese motor vehicle in general is finding parts, especially motor parts, when something does go wrong. It can take allot of time and headache to do so. That to me is the biggest turn off to these. Otherwise I quite like the looks of them. Only other issue is the small power plant on such a bike. It'd be alright if it was at least a mid range displacement like a 400/450. I think if parts were available or easy to find and the motor was at least mid range for a dual sport, these would sell like hot cakes and appeal more.

    • @PolskaTheGrey
      @PolskaTheGrey 8 лет назад +1

      +wurrzag77 Surprised to hear that really. All I see is 250s in Chinese stuff. Then, I don't keep up with Chinese bikes like at all, I just hear allot of the CSC stuff.

    • @wurrzag77
      @wurrzag77 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah its quite normal, as a lot of these brands are just trying to make their first legitimate steps on the international market. In china the XY400 is rather cheap and legal. Theres very few choices and probably best one right now is the Benelli (italian motorcycles maker bought up and revived in china). Although they have been promising an ADV with their signature 600cc 4 cylinder engine. We will see how that will go.
      Another bigger bike thats used by Chinese military is the JiaLing 650. Single cylinder adv bike also available in non removable side car version. The early versions (1A) had fuel injection problems, but these got fixed rather promptly. It is a good choice for an adv bike, but is butt ugly. Here they call it "The Cock."
      As police bikes go, CFMOTO just sold a lot of their CF650TR, a parallel twin 650cc, bikes to be used as interceptors. They're also available in Naked version (cf650nk) as well as 400 parallel twin, and 150 single. They're pretty damn good. Especially the cf650nk/tr, the motor is based on the Kawasaki ER6, and performs admirably.

      Tony, I understand what you are saying about the parts availability. However, I feel as though you are not seeing the whole picture. Getting parts for "Chinese bikes" IS IFFY with many manufactures and suppliers. However, this is not the case with anything CSC sells. They have every single part for the RX3 in stock. Every one. One phone call, 3 4 days latter and UPS drops off the part. {lease explain to me how this is any different that when my local Honda dealership on 3 occasions had to order parts for my Honda, taking 7 to 10 days each time I ordered from them. Or how right now I am having to wait till the parts for my Harley come in off of backorder on August 12th. (so they tell me ) OR, how a BMW owner I personally know had to wait 3 weeks to get his ignition coil in from BMW overseas for his "beemer bagger" he loves so much. Shipping is shipping. Chances are, any big name dealership will not have the part you need in stock. They ALL will have to order them from a warehouse somewhere. Only difference when you buy from CSC is, they are the dealer, distributor, and parts warehouse, all in one. Eliminating the middle man and along with it the 3X markup on repair parts! Just saying, , , , , , , :)

      @coyote102076 8 лет назад +2

      Tony, Let me also add, I completely agree with you about the 400cc thing though. 250 just seems too small for USA highways. Just my $0.02

Do they still looks good or atleast 80% like new? china bike in early says tend to wahsout even before it reaches 1st year sitting under hot and rain.
