A year ago I ran a 5 minute mile round a 200m track in 50mile/ hour winds. I felt as if I could have ran faster. Even though, these women are still running really fast.
Hardly. Politically correct nonsense. Try googling "best boys miles times" or equivalent. These COLLEGE women are not even in the same universe as high school boys. The fact that a college runner could outrun the average obese human being is as remarkable as a horse and buggy is faster than a turtle. Well, yes it is.
Michael McKenzie the fastest men have physical advantages. Obviously they will be faster. Im not sure how fast you are, but I would imagine these women would outrun you or me easily.
@@northwestprof60 Well, it's like that with most sports. The elite women are much more athletic than the average man but they can't compete with the elite men. The Williams sisters could easily beat the average man tennis player but they'd be ranked about 700 in pro men's tennis. If there are only 700 tennis players in the world who will beat you in a match more often than not you are still an excellent tennis player, just not a world-class one.
I ran a 4:57 once when i was a high school senior in state...but let me tell you I felt like I was dying, my legs were numb from the knees down, I vomited, just curled up in a ball and told my body "I am so sorry I will NEVER do this to you again" lol, the only thing that could possible get me under a 5 min mile would be the K-9's! A long time ago, in a world far far away, I played high school soccer. In order to qualify to play, we had to run the mile in under six minutes. I thought that pace was insane. I guarantee most people have no idea how fast this kind of pace is. The average person could not sprint for one lap with these girls and keep up.
omg, I use to run the 800M back in the day, these ladies would kick my butt. Watching the race, or any track race, my heart still starts pumping faster!
I broke the 5 minute mile as a sophomore in hs but then broke my leg before season 2 just as I was getting going. That ended it thanks to a bad setting that took years to fully heal. She makes it look so easy I just love watching her. Been 60 years but I still love the mile event. I'm back to sprinting now at 72. Best exercise still.
Fine effort from Lauren in P2.... kept working hard over the last 800m and made some inroads into the winner.... She'll fancy her chances if/when they meet again....
Insane. I am pretty active person and I ride an exercise bike often. I tried to run on a treadmill on 12 for as long as i could and I don't think I lasted much more than a minute. Maybe because I was always a sprinter.

My fastest mile was back in high school and that was 5:52. I ran a mile other day at 35 without any training before hand and I passed out after stretching...
After watching the video, and looking at the winning time, I was wondering why it has (currently) 800,000 views. Then I realized it's a mile and not a 1500m. Great time especially for indoor!
@robt555 They're implying how boys high school miles are alot faster and typically under 5 minutes when they're a junior/senior. College athletes are even faster with a select few being even sub 4 which is an extremely difficult accomplishment. Just because they're stating their college running time doesn't mean that highschoolers can't be faster.
Mystery Man Same. I've been running since the end of middle school, just graduated high school, and I'm sitting at 5:15 right now. My best at the start of this year was 5:31, so it's progress, but getting to sub-5 is gonna be hell.

Jessica Hull is also the 2018 NCAA outdoor 1500m champion and she just became the 2019 indoor NCAA champion. I read some ridiculous claims on this post. She is also from Australia, there are athletes that get scholarships from around the world to run in the USA.
I don’t think people realize how fast that is until they go to a track and just jog a mile. The athletic ability of some people is amazing.
it is a good time even for males.
