Quarantine has changed Iain....
Jokes aside, thanks for filling in Jess, you fill the role well.
Always glad to see a new OTSR, a 41 min one is super appreciated with everything going on atm.
Much love Gary, Iain, Jess, David, Linda and the rest of the crew I'm missing.
❤️
I can't believe you guys are talking about this movie. Nobody talks about Dagon. It is u ironically my favorite movie of all time. The atmosphere in this film is palpable. The acting is mesmerizing. The effects far exceed what should expected of B movies. For anyone who has ever gone to a strange place before, this movie really recaptures that feeling of isolation and paranoia. Great adventure film as well. 5/5!
Agreed, very atmospheric film. Quite a gem.
Such an obscure classic, one of the best Lovecraftian films ever made. One of my all time favourites.
And Re Animator is even better stuart Gordon Lovecraft goodness
Done on a low budget also.Lovecraft, eroticism imaginary fish world. Doing this on 4 million euros for me it's a 10.
Ray lui
Paco (or Francisco) Rabal was a famous and renown actor from the 60´s. He has worked extensively in TV, film and theatre. He has had a really distinguisehd carreer: a Cannes best-actor award, two Goyas best-leading performer wins and he worked with Buñuel in Viridiana. He has always been one of the best performers the Spanish industry had to offer to the world. I would recommend him in Goya in Burdeos and Alomodóvar`s Átame.
I couldn't agree more with some of your comments guys. This film is really frustrating! It has some fantastic scenes and is very faithful to Lovecraft, but the pacing and the acting as well as the direction - which is unusual for Stuart Gordon - just seems off. I really enjoyed the beginning and the end, but large parts of the middle section were just chase scenes...and badly paced ones at that. You should review The Colour Out Of Space. Richard Stanley adapts Lovecraft, and fucking nails it!
Just watched Color out of Space and you are correct he nails it. I think this may be the greatest Lovercraftian film of all time.
Jess has introduced me to the term “ropey” and I fully expect him to say in each review 😅! I also wanted to say that I have been enjoying binging on all your reviews, and thank you for all that you do! I really enjoy your channel!
I remember seeing the cover art for the VHS as a kid an being freaked out by the hideous fish-man freak with huge teeth, wasn't familiar with HP Lovecraft at the time so had no idea of the source material it was based on which possibly made the film all the more creepier for me at the time I first saw this but is a decent horror flick, that face off scene is really well done
I saw this as a kid. Never forgot that face off degloving scene
Dagon is one of my favorite movies. It’s like a weird dream. I love the flash back scenes . Thank you for the review
Another great review, enjoyed Jess filling in, cheers guys. OTSR 🤙🤙
4:21 Ditch the bitch.
13:02 Most people don't flail around like that when they fall. It doesn't do anything anyway.
13:04 Guaranteed injury right there. People in movies always withstand falls from ridiculous heights, even crashing through glass, and we're expected to believe that they barely incur any injuries aside from nicks and scrapes. There's a scene toward the end of Deep Rising where the villain tries to "Bruce Willis" his way onto Treat Williams's boat and ends up breaking his leg - only to then find out that they rigged the boat (along with an explosive payload) to crash into the cruise ship.
23:35 It's not "murder" if it's self-defense. It's not "murder" if they're enemy combatants. These very much ARE enemy combatants.
30:16 Why do movie people expect us to believe that tiny flames produce that much ambient light? Even campfires don't produce much ambient light.
Hi guys! An Argentinian viewer here. I saw this movie when I was 10/11 years old (around 2003). Just had the luck of finding it on a local cable channel that aired other obscure gems, like Faust:Love of the Damned
This is my FAV channel!! Thnx for uploading bois :)
My favorite movie! It was set in Galicia, Spain. Some of the music is actually based on folk songs from that area. And yeah, they love pulpo there.
Love this film.It kicks ass ,and stays in the Lovecraftian groove.Few films do any decent adaptations of his works.Another that predates Dagon , is "Dark Waters" (not the haunted apartment/watertank movie) ,made in the early 80,s ?,leans heavily on Inmouth. GREAT review of an excellent film.
Old school practical effects NEVER get old! Especially when it comes to gross out gore! They still hold up today!
Good review you guys! I'll be sure to see this one!
It is a must see movie. The atmosphere is great and main song is haunting.
Coincidentally, the Spanish actress Macarena Gomez also has a role in the 2020 Spanish mystery horror television series 30 Coins which also has references to Lovecraftian monsters.
Nice review! I remember seeing this maybe 5 years ago and I liked it. Good for what it is! "Slapstick murder" - great line. Also I like the reference to the game "Dark corners of the earth".
To be fair... I feel like a corpse breathing in a lovecraft movie gets a pass lol. You could always excuse it as some kinda weird undeath xD
You cut your beard!! Now you'll lose all of your powers!! I did, and that's what happened to me anyways...
it helps if you take this as a live-action adventure game. Then this movie is flawless.
After watching this review, I really hope you guys review Underwater (2020)!!!!
I really wish this had been made in the 80s so we could have had Barbara Crampton as Barbara and Jeffrey Combs as Paul
You should do Escape From New York/L.A. 😎 From John Carpenter Elvis would also be nice 👍
11:25 That wardrobe always spawned next to the door for me instead of infront of it....I still had to push it so the door would open...
Awesome stuff, guys! Thank you for your reviews. Please do a review for The Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man movie and Escape from L. A. 😁🤘🏻🎸🥃🥃🥃 ROCK ON!!!
Was that a Nokia 3210 in the phone beat down scene? No wonder it killed a guy because
You Couldn't do that with today's devices 🤣
Love you guys, so well thought and intelligently talked about the movies! May i suggest a criminally forgotten movie?......Alright i will go ahead, METRO from 1997, a forgotten gem of Eddie Murphys, great bad guy and a very descent story about a hostate negotiater. Have a look guys!👍 PLEASE!😁 #randomguyfromsweden #Staysafe
fun review Gary and Jess
Thank you for the nice review, I just saw that deep rising, i cannot belive i missd it
This is a very memorable film. I love it. Dunwich Horror is my favorite Lovecraft story, but Shadow Over Innsmouth is up there - def in my top three.
I watched this film a couple of days ago. I really enjoyed it, despite the bad acting, special effects, etc. It really points out Lovecrafts work and it is absolutely brilliant. What I love about the director that made Dagon is his twists. This movie gave me the creeps and a particular scene really scarred me. Great film
It's Imboca, with an O. Mouth in Spanish is boca.
He’s Jeff, that’s Gary. Where is Iain?
You notice you don't see Jeff and Iain in the same room? Makes you think, doesn't it?
Brief, but very in character, appearance at 18:07
Fiery Phoenix how I love that censor shot. Iain enjoys his job
That accent i miss it. Been in Australia for 10 years now from Plymouth originally. Dagons also good.
I totally disagree they shouldn’t have set up in America the pacing is surreal and unique. It also makes the twist more powerful. The lack of chemistry with Barbara was also on purpose.
This movie is a goddamn masterpiece. Fight me.
Can we get a review for Gojira (1954), King Kong (1976), 20 Million Miles to Earth, and Jeepers Creepers?
I found it funny how you pronounced the actress' surname, Meroño, not even close. She is more of a tv series actress, her biggest success was Al salir de clase, which was a type of teenage-drama-soap-opera.
While Jess did a fine job, I missed the opening exchange with Iain, for which _Dagon_ would have fit nicely. Something like: "I'm a freakin' tentacled monstrosity." "And I'm Gary."
Jess makes a good alternative to Iain. I like Iain but it's bloody baffling why he Wikis everything 😉 Not sure how you can enjoy a film as much when you know all of the twists beforehand 🤣
This film was a coproduction between smaller channels. In Spain, there are local channels which cater to other official languages (Catalonian, Galician, Basque), and they were part of the producers of this film. There was also one small private channel, Canal Plus, which at the time was the only pay-for channel at that time in Spain. Also, all European broadcasters need to fill out a high percentage of hours with made-in-Europe content. Once this percentage has been filled out, with cheap series, live programming, or even films like this, they don´t necessarily know what else to do with the final products. For me, all this explains a lot. For example, that´s why the sister´s name is Uxía, which is a Galician name, which is pronounced nothing like the way you are saying it.
And the fishermen town is very much a poor Galician fishermen village, which there used to be plenty of in Galicia. Now many of them have been reconverted into middle-class second-home summer villages.
@The Droid agree
DAGON is a very atmospheric little film.
Not even heard of this film! Thanks guys!
I mean...they got Mat from Carwow as leading Actor...thats cool
these details are so minut that the only way to see them is if you're looking extremely hard for a flaw. so minut as a screw.
Can you review the sequels, Dagon By: Dagon 2 and Let Dagons Be Dagons: Dagon 3? And the reboot, Dagon: The store and Dagon Themselves lost?

an american goes to a spanish region which has a cult of monsters you think Capcom watched this for inspiration for resident evil 4
Wait. I'm starting to think that's not Ian....
Good channel keep it up!
I found this movie in The m.v.c shop found it interesting
Marvel Vs Capcom has a store?!
I remember that in London in the late 90s I think.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME nope it was a short lived video dvd cd store in the uk
Cgi aside this was a very enjoyable movie
This a watchable movie....for horror fans, rather disjointed @ times. Stuart Gordon...RIP , could only do so much with the limited budget. Still I found the story rather interesting, good practical FX, shaky CGI, but a definite cult movie. I recall seeing this on SYFY channel many years ago. Where’s Iain...? Gary as always, Jeff great job & insight, welcome. thanks mates.
Another fantastic review, great input from both of you on this massively under-rated movie.
The girlfriend is hot
Was, she is over 50 now.
@@ikaruga24 She might still be hot.
i loved this film, hated the name. it was very different than the book, and the towns folk seemed like "random mutants", rather than turning into deep ones. i half expected, (i know different story, but still...) the "Innsmouth look" to be a thing, somewhat canon and somewhat constant. name a movie after a story, chances are folks that see it are folks that read the story. this film was more "The Shadow over Innsmouth" than "Dagon" either way small complaint for a grand film that lives in my collection.
Iain looks very different without the beard and hat.
Dagon is actually in the Bible. In the book of Jasher.
Please review Jeepers Creepers.
Aku gak ngerti bahasanya... Filmnya seru banget
Movie hunting list 1994 or devil hunters 1988
always liked this movie :)
Fun cheesy movie. Only somewhat filmilar with lovecraft works. Reminds me of Resident evil 4
👍🎬🎥👊
I love this film

I think I would still hit that.
cannot believe hollywood hasnt made that many good Lovecraft movies he has a ton of awesome horror stories that would be amazing on the big screen but hollywood is obsessed with reboots and remakes unfortunately
Check out "Color out of space" with Nicholas Cage by Richard Stanley.
