I actually consider films like this to be the perfect example of "reimagine" verses a remake. Like how Tim Burton tried to say his Planet of the Apes wasn't a remake but a reimagine. I only say this because the Vincent Price 'Fly' is a faithful adaptation of the story where as this 'The Fly' only uses the basic summary of the story. Scientist uses teleporter and is mixed with a fly. But both films have a completely different plot from there. And out come. They even divert on the romance given in the original, happy married couple verses a couple just starting out their romance which we see throughout the film. Kinda rambling so just to recap, I believe films like this one should be the prime example of what a reimagine is, not really a remake.
@@davedennison7386 If you prefer the Vincent Price original that's your prerogative and it's cool, it's just imo ( and many others it seems ) the remake is very highly regarded and superior.

The gore effects, the music, the story and the brilliant acting from both Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis are outstanding! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great Review, you guys! :)
I saw this in the theater, too. I was about 13, after growing up watching the original😆. I remember every moment the audience screamed at, and also laughing when Seth pukes on the donut, and says, "That's disgusting." My dad and I loved it. My silly stepmother never forgave us. The Fly is one of the best. But do not forget the original, which has very good storytelling and is also very scary in a different way. Both versions are truly classics.

Oh yes. I'm not a fan of horror movies really, at heart, but this story is arguably the perfect horror cautionary tale story of how science can ruin not just one person's life, but many people's. The sad reality is factually science is like this and just as bad in real life, though it is often promoted as acceptable and okay. All in all, good on you guys to tackle an underrated movie/story - so it makes you rightfully question science and its "ethics" or lack. This movie is also a form of "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it" as well. I personally enjoy the original 1958 movie and the modern remake (which is a rare exception of when remakes are done well) and the original story is even more tragic and, arguably, even more messed up by George Langelaan. Check it out, if you have not done so yet.

Remakes in the 80s actually took risks and changed story elements. They were reimagining films for a new time. Nowadays when studios remake films all they do is recast and change the special effect quality (usually for the worse).
Along with The Thing and Night of the Living Dead (and possibly Heat/The Producers) one of the few truly superior remakes. 2 standout scenes, Geena Davis removes her stocking obviously and the creepy ex-boyfriend who might as well have 'villain' stamped on his forehead turns out to be the hero after all.
It's sad because all Seth wanted to do was create a way to travel without his motion sickness effect. It's probably something that caused much humiliation since likely childhood..May be why he is socially awkward. The insect politics scene is so sad..She can't even understand much of what he is saying. Brundle's own genius mind is already going as well at that point. Such a sad story..
