- I give you my 2 year, 20k mile update and review about my M140i. I go through what my journey has been like in the car and any issues and modifications that I have faced.

I'm in Australia, and took delivery of my 2019 M140i six weeks ago. It's a "Finale Edition" (like a Shadow Edition plus a sunroof, engine bay plaque and a few other things) which may be Australia-only or international I'm not sure. The car has been great. It's got a lot of power of course, but I love how good it can be as a smooth relaxing cruiser. It's perfect for eating up the long distances here. And when you want it, that fantastic engine means the car can really hustle. I'm mainly writing to thank you for all of your M140i content over the years . It really helped to finalise my decision to buy one, and then which modifications to consider (I'll be doing the suspension if nothing else). A nice "final thoughts" video, but hopefully you'll find other things to say about your M140i and that's not the last we'll see of it. Keep up the good work.

Me too! I'm in Sydney, got my M140i about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely loving it. The only less-than-amazing thing about it for me so far is the traction (compared to my previous car which was a Subaru Liberty B4) so I'm seriously considering an LSD upgrade... Still, when the road is dry and the tyres are warm it's so much fun!

I'm so glad you were honest about the dyno figure, because I have seen so many stock ones dyno'd on youtube with quite frankly, ridiculous claims of the output.
The only reason that some people are claiming these make 360+ bhp stock, is because the people doing the dyno runs do not calibrate the dyno's correctly, or calculated the corrected power correctly.
Bigger numbers sell, so many tuning companies use exaggerated figures to sell their mapping services.
There is no way just a simple remap on an M140i can get you over 440 'real' bhp, because the other limiting factors just won't allow it. Using inaccurate correction calculations, and even allowing a little bit of wheel slip on the rollers, can massively exaggerate the figures.
And even at 430-440 bhp, the power curves are not going to be usable, just one small rev band which gets that figure.
Mine (a 2017 auto) was dyno'd stock at 336bhp, which is bang on (factory figure is 335bhp), on a very accurate dyno. It was mapped to 412bhp with a power & torque curve which was almost identical to the stock, thus very usable and no silly spikes in the power delivery.
I just shake my head and laugh at some of the silly claims being made.
I am from Australia and I have a 2018 m140i. I absolutely love this thing!! I have always owned good cars but nothing puts a smile on my face like this thing does. I drove the s3, golf r and amg a250 and never considered m140i as it was beyond my budget. BMW (bless them) reduced the price and here I am with a ear to ear grin!! This is the most fun to drive out of the lot and given the price range, it is a great buy IMHO. The Audi was overpriced, the premium pack would've costed me more than $10k than what I got my beamer for and I got those (premium leather, sound system etc.) as standard. The golf was sanitized and some of my colleagues had really bad experience with their golfs. The amg somehow felt like a novelty act, everything felt "manufactured", like the exhaust note, the sunroof was a bit ungainly and out of proportion. This m140i is a masterpiece. The engine, the gearbox (I haven't driven the manual, I have the 8 speed auto), the exhaust noise and more importantly how this car makes me feel is truly great.

Interesting point about the Dyno’d figures. I was at Surrey Rolling Roads the other day, my average was 355 BHP and 405 lb/ft torgue which was suggested was due to my use of 99 octane fuel which I have used from day one ☝️

Great 20,000m review mate. Couldn’t agree more with the comments made, having bought mine exactly the same time as yours with 19,000m happy miles done and a similar spec. Would I sell mine.? Not right now, the new 1 series has lost its identity and this model will become an icon. There is no hot hatch better for pure value v performance. When I do decide to move on I think I’ll be heading down the M40i z4 route.

Juggerslaught I picked mine up 2 weeks ago. Ordered as soon as the new 135 was announced. You’ll love it, but make sure you do 1000 miles before you use the launch control!

I think the natural progression is the M3/M4 but as a daily this is unbeatable in my honest opinion

dont sell her please ! i think the only reason bmw is stopping this fantastic car is sales , only 3% of 1 series sales are m140s so i was told , ill be keeping my 2018 council spec m2 forever , god bless rear drive i say .

See I went out in the N55 M2 about a year ago..... in a straight line I think the M140i is quicker but I agree the M2 as a full on M car is better.. .as a daily....not too sure though.

Unfortunately not which is weird as Europe and Australia have the M140i. Perhaps it's the US emissions.....

Pheeeew, dealership offered me a direct swap. I couldn't say no enough. They asked why to which I simply replied "have you seen it?" Then I got the 2 comp offer but just doesn't give me what I need.
