  • We're back! For our first 2019 "Two Dads" review, we check out BMW's awesome little 250kW M140i Hatchback.
With Rear Wheel Drive fun, 5-door practicality and a stonking 6-cyl 500Nm Turbo engine that takes it from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds!!, is it the best "Fun and Family Friendly" car we've tested yet?

Fantastic car. I've had a shadow edition in this colour for 5 months and smile every time I drive it!
    Engine and autobox are gems.
    Great review guys.

Just picked up my finale edition m140i last week in estoril blue, has 10k km on it and is immaculate. Had to bite the bullet given this is likely the last generation of this breed from bmw. An absolute joy to drive

The reason the M140i doesn't come with Adaptive Cruise Control is because by the time BMW crammed in the B58 engine, large intercooler and all, there was simply no room to add the ACC sensor systems! It's a massive engine in an engine bay originally scoped to fit a 2-ish litre turbo engine.

    Like the video.
Also like my M140i. Actually, love it !
It is a masterpiece of do-it-all fun.
My 2017 Auto, has cruise control, adaptive suspension, HK audio, (which I think are essential), but not the heated seats, steering wheel, sunroof (unnecessary extra weight).
After a cheeky remap, it's putting out well over 400bhp and 576nm torque, amazing car. It does need a limited slip diff more than ever now.

Congrats Matt R C - you'll LOVE the M140i just as we did!! An excellent "bang for your buck" car (lol!...and I was SO impressed I bought one too!)

Currently own a m135i lci which is a great car.. is it worth the upgrade to a m140i?

Hi Ryan Victoria - I think the biggest changes you'd notice for the latest (and now last) M140i lci-2 vs your M135i lci is the newer instrument panel, the touchscreen idrive 6, and newer cabin plastics, which are all very nice and makes it feel like a proper "luxury" BMW - although the newer models like the new 3-series have now gone a step further in terms of tech. The M140i's B58 engine also has a bit more power and torque than your N55 engine, but yours is more "tunable" if you wanted to go down that road. The very best thing about both cars is they are 6-cyl and RWD, which the next model won't be (it's possibly AWD or FWD with a 4-cyl turbo). Whether its a good idea to upgrade to the last M140i (the "Finale Edition" in Australia) probably depends on your current financial/km situation with your M135i. Personally, I think in years to come in the world of electric cars, the M140i will be a bit of a collector's item (the last of the breed etc), so that's why I bit the bullet and bought one for myself. So I reckon if you can do it..then do it! Hope this helps and thanks for Watching!

Get a hold of the X3 M40i and you will be stunned at what it has to offer.I looked at all the SUV,s out there and went for the X3 M40i. Performance and handling is amazing. Only negative I find is the start/stop feature. It would be nice to have that turned off completely. Also having to pay for Apple car play and no Andrioid auto available. Oh and getting your head around the 100k plus price tag. Do the review when you can though 🙂. A much better option than the 140i.

Better option at 40k more? Yeah right.

I agree X3 M40i is an awesome SUV performance vehicle but for bang for your buck the hatch is good. Not everyone can drop $100k

Incredible car, but if you want performance and family duties covered all wrapped in a very understated body, then iI don't think you can really go past a Golf R Wagon!
