  • In this video, Dr. Blaivas explains diagnosis, treatment, and other ways to deal with the common problem of urinary incontinence in prostate cancer patients. Urinary incontinence after prostate cancer is usually based on the sphincter muscle not working properly. In about 5% of cases, the patient's bladder contracts involuntarily. If the condition does not go away over time, surgery to correct the incontinence may be required. Surgical options include a sphincter prosthesis, which replaces the sphincter itself with an implanted device, and a sling procedure, which is mesh placed under the urethra so that it is compressed during activity.

Excellent information! As a registered nurse in the long term care space, I’ve used many treatments over the years and am always looking for better options. One of the nonsurgical options that I like to suggest after prostate surgery is Men’s Liberty. Men’s Liberty adheres to the tip of the anatomy and will keep men dry all day. Often, if the patient works with their doctor, insurance will cover it.

At NO time was I told by my GP, hospital doctors, or nurses, or the surgeon, that I would suffer urinary incontinence AFTER prostate surgery. It came as a HUGE surprise, very UNwelcome. Now I am left to find a way of handling this gross inconvenience. Am I upset and angry?? YES!!!

      ❤️
I was told but not properly warned of the extreme extent.
65 and go through many pull-ups underwear daily.
Need diet with do and don’t recommendations.
Thankful that the surgery is behind me. Only 3 weeks post op.
      Too hopeful perhaps

Thank you so much for a very informative issue. I did not know all of this was available until my situation got extremely bad. Again thank you for the advice I’m looking into it immediately. I wear so many pads that really don’t help my problem at all. For instance, if I squat to pick something up I have a tremendous flow of urine. Also no information on whether standing or sitting to urinate would be best to fix this problem. Everything eyewear BoHo the waist needs to be washed daily weekly.
