10:59 I'm not exaggerating when I say that TV scene is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time, and a great example of how to give exposition in a way that's fun and engaging. The way it switches channels to form actual sentences while also obscuring the actual information is so brilliant
Hey Addie! I don’t know if it’s in your October schedule but if you want an amazing horror comedy, you should definitely react to “Tucker and Dale vs Evil”! ❤
Yes please, such an amazing movie
absolutely agree
I misjudged that movie for a long time based on the poster. I thought it was some kind of zombie spoof movie.
Abso-Frigging-Lutely
@@joeblankenship377Ya I actually did the same thing seeing it on netflix. I thought it was some knock off, low budget horror movie. Then I finally gave in an checked it out and absolutely loved it. I hope she adds it to her list for the month because it’s so good!
Such a great reaction! Some trivia: When asked by an interviewer why they chose to have slow moving zombies instead of running zombies, Simon Pegg simply replied, "Because death is not an energy drink."
Many of the zombie extras are fans of Spaced, which also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and was also directed by Edgar Wright. They were recruited through the Spaced Out fan website.
Night of the Living Dead Director George A. Romero was given a private viewing of this movie near his house in Florida. During the scene in which Ed (Nick Frost) yells into the phone, "We're coming to get you, Barbara", Romero was oblivious to the fact it was a direct lift from his movie Night of the Living Dead, and only found out later after a phone conversation with Edgar Wright. He was so impressed with their work that he asked them to cameo in Land of the Dead as zombies.
‘Spaced’ was also co-written by Jessica Hynes, who played Yvonne in this movie.
Also, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright got the idea for the movie after the episode of ‘Spaced’ where Tim (Simon Pegg) was playing Resident Evil 2, and then had the dream about being in a zombie apocalypse.
I love Spaced and that episode was so much fun.
There's also a reference to the running zombies from 28 Days in the news reports at the end of Shaun of the Dead.
You can overhear the journalist say (paraphrasing) "reports that the zombie outbreak was caused by a disease from escaped laboratory Monkeys have been dismissed as a load of [channel changes]"
My favorite touch is that the zombies really do retain their basic personality traits. Phillip hated the loud noise. Pete met up with his friends at the pub. Ed just hangs out with Shaun playing videogames, and Barbara was completely passive until David yelled at Shaun
Wow I never put that last part together! Nice!
I always thought Barbara's reaction was just the loud noise of David's voice. Also, did Pete ever really have friends at the pub? I don't think that was really an established thing, I think it was just him following Ed to get him because he hated him so much.
Both Zombieland movies are good horror/comedy (they're pretty messy though) but my favorite is probably the Army of Darkness. All are worth looking at.
“This is my BOOM stick!!”
Fun Fact: As bad as it looks, Dianne wading into that sea of zombies, it was revealed in the DVD extras that she somehow survived
Yes, she eventually managed to climb a tree high enough to stay clear of the zombies and stayed there for a few days, nibbling on David's leg from time to time. (Don't take my word for it, check out the DVD extra's yourselves.)
@@michaelmannon611And that was the most useful David ever was to her as a boyfriend...
Loved the animated comic extras on the DVD! Edgar Wright aways makes sure to load his movies with special features. The special extras on the special edition of Hot Fuzz are insane, all the commentary tracks and the inclusion of one of his student films called Dead Wrong (or right, maybe?)
Yeah I thought that was cool that they let you know she survived.
I was so glad Diane survived. I cheered out loud when I saw the DVD Extra.
"Now every time I hear this song, am I just going to think of this movie?"
Yes. I still do.
Horror comedies might be your bag? Obviously the often mentioned "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil", and you might consider "Zombieland" also and "What We Do in the Shadows". Not quite a comedy, but really interesting horror satire can be found in "The Cabin in the Woods". Anyway, just a few suggestions for you.
The plan that Ed comes up with at the Winchester after Shaun gets dumped by Liz is actually a beat-for-beat summary of all the events that will go down the following day: "Have a Bloody Mary's first thing (the first zombie they encounter is named Mary), a bite at the King's Head (Phillip gets bitten in the neck), couple at the Little Princess (Liz is the princess, David and Di are the couple), stagger back here (they pretend to be zombies); bang! Back at the bar for shots (the big shootout in the third act). Watching Edgar Wright's films multiple times is pretty much a necessity due to the sheer amount of foreshadowing and hidden hints he hides in the script.
Glad to hear you enjoyed this one, it's pretty much a staple of modern British culture and ranked as one of our best comedy films alongside Hot Fuzz. You should definitely check out The World's End and complete the trilogy; it's not as popular as the other two, but I reckon it's one of the most underrated films to come out during the last few years and a really great conclusion to the trilogy
Though I wish they had done the whole group-echoing-the-conversation thing in Worlds End (those that know when, know)
Points to Shaun for running in to try to rescue David a minute after David tried to shoot him. There's an animated scene showing that Di actually survived.
After World's End I recommend "Paul" and "Scott Pilgrim Vs the World"...also "Zombieland", "Tucker & Dale Vs Evil" and "Cabin in the Woods".
Scott Pilgrim was awesome!
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is the best.
Excellent recommendations, i second all of these
Paul is hilarious 😂
At Shaun’s work they refer to “Ash” being out. That’s a reference to Evil Dead.
The start of the movie is basically foreshadowing or maybe you should say they're just mirroring each other for example when he goes to the shop the first time, all the same things happens exept people are zombies/being chased and there's a TON of more things like that throughout. I love Edgar Wright :D
notice that the zombie pushing the cart at the end is the student who used to work with Shaun. Nice to consider that the rude teen didn't advance in life but Shaun did.
You're looking for Horror Comedys? Then Army of Darkness is a MUST!!!!
"Hail to the King baby"
Shaun's friend who he runs into who leads the other group that's a mirror of Shaun's group is played by Jessica Hynes (although I believe she was Jessica Stevenson back then). Prior to Shaun of the Dead, Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes starred in a TV show called Spaced, so this was a bit of a reunion, and the way they're talking about things and catching up is a nod to the show they starred in together (which the British audience would almost certainly have been familiar with). Spaced had very similar humour to Shaun of the Dead in a lot of ways, but it was much more out there. Nick Frost also co-starred in Spaced, but Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes were the 2 leads.
I heard somewhere that they initially came up with the idea for Shaun of the Dead after filming the Spaced episode where Tim is hallucinating about zombies after several hours of staying awake on speed and playing Resident Evil.
@@joshbates9015 That would make a lot of sense...
And Edgar Wright directed every episode.
And for a similar movie also with Edgar Wrights help you could give Attack The Block a watch. Featuring a pre Star Wars John Boyega.
Tucker and Dale. Tucker and Dale. Tucker and Dale!!!
Shaun walking obliviously back to his flat while zombies are walking about, reminds me of people looking at their phones and being completely unaware of their surroundings. The Zombie are here, and they are us
And the day an outbreak finally happens, a lot of these phone addicts will no doubt be caught and eaten alive whilst trying to livestream or record the Damn event.
whoa that's deep brah
Go to bed old man
r/im14andthisisdeep
"We are the walking dead."
The godfather of zombie movies George Romero was a huge fan of this movie, so much that he gave Simon Pegg and Nick Frost cameo parts in "Land of the Dead".
Did not know that. Glad Romero appreciated the film.
More fun and slapstick than horror! Great cast for a comedy! I luv Simon Pegg. Another movie with same cast and poking fun at aliens is "Paul". Would like to see your reaction to that! If you want a horror zombie movie World War Z is good. Or for more zombedy comedy zombieland is a hoot!😂 Great reaction Addie! You looked scared every now and then which is good for you but your smile was better! 😁 Luv ya Addie ❤💛
It’s not a Horror film, it’s more of a rom-com.. with Zombies..
.. so a Zom-com.
Other British comedy horror that's a lot of fun is "Cockneys vs Zombies". Great jump scare reactions, Addie.
12:03-12:07 "She's still alive? How do we kill them then?"
I had to pause the reaction and contemplate what I just heard...
I naturally assumed that everyone knew that to kill a zombie you have to destroy the brain.
I was truly taken aback.
But I admit, I loved that you didn't know that
If you want a good, short Zombie series, Dead Set is when a zombie outbreak happens during a series of Big Brother, with the housemates having no idea what's going on outside.
For another horror comedy, try Tucker and Dale vs Evil. It's hilarious and you'll recognize as least one actor in it...😉
Horror comedy? American Werewolf in London.
21:17
Martin Freeman and Lucy Davis were in The Office together while Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes were in Spaced together.
And Dylan Moran and Tamsin Grieg were both in Black Books
Edgar Wright plays with "Chekov's Gun" masterfully.
Hey Addie, luv ur channel...u look beautiful as always...glad u got to see this classic...i would say more comedy then horror...u want to watch a big epic Zombie Movie, watch Brad Pitt in 'World War Z' fast Zombies are definitely more scary...Much luv from Ireland and happy Horror Season..💚🧟
One of the greatest Horror/Comedies of all-time, and Pegg & Frost are one the greatest comedy duos of all-time (though one might count them as a trio along with Edgar Wright, who co-wrote The Cornetto Trilogy and directed Spaced). Truly great stuff kicking off the weekend here, cheers from Canada. 🥃✌❤
beating the bartender to the best of Don't Stop Me Now is an all time comedy moment 😂😂😂
Simon (Shaun), Nick (Ed) and Edgar (the director) had a sitcom on British TV called Spaced and although it was a surreal mix of everything they always loved to throw movie tropes in to the show and that is what gave birth to the Cornetto Trilogy. Shaun of the Dead plays on zombie movies like Night of the Living Dead, Hot Fuzz plays on buddy cop movies like Point Break, and The World's End plays on alien invasion movies like the Body Snatchers. The guys had so many silly ideas for each episode in the show that they basically just created a trilogy of movies where they could satirise each subject to the fullest.
@@sithlordkaeyl21also Tyres is one of the zombies outside the Winchester. You see him with his yellow hat.
21:13 For those of us damn dirty Americans, Martin Freeman and Lucy Davis were Tim and Dawn on the original Office.
I think your next zombie-ish movie should be 28 Days Later.
Zombieland is a good comedy/horror also. Think it even has a sequel.
Life didn't really change for Ed lol
You missed the whole gag with Shaun changing the channel! If you'd listened to what was actually being said on each channel, it was still telling the story of what was happening.
please watch THE BURBS with tom hanks
The orEvil Dead is similar horror comedy. The funniest being Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. Not to be confused with the recent Evil Dead movies.
Grew up watching this movie and love it and me and my dad do the thing when somebody groans we do what Shaun and Ed do also apparently there is a comic or something of his girlfriends friend who went out after four eyes died and she apparently survived somehow and ended up in a tree and either died in the tree do to starvation or something or survived and was rescued don't really remember but found that out a few years ago and thought it was interesting that somehow she was able to survive
hey i just remembered you need to watch Paul has the same 2 actors in it so technically you have worlds end to watch and paul
"You've got red on you" is a common quote in my everyday vocabulary
Edgar Wright is my favorite director and it's the directions he goes in that makes him one of the best!
All three movies in the Cornetto trilogy are about adulthood.
Shaun of the Dead: Becoming a responsible adult.
Hot Fuzz: Work/Life Balance
The World's End: Middle age
fun fact: there is a comic showing that the actress survived and was later rescued from a tree she was stuck in for long enough to resort to eating the leg.
It's not a comedy, but Train to Busan is an AMAZING Korean zombie movie.
It's alright. Really don't get the hype.
It’s not that I don’t like Addie…
Addie, it’s not that I don’t like you.
Also world War z zombies are the worst kind as well as the flood from halo
David was the great stand up comic Dylan Moran. He had a British sitcom, Black Books, one of my favorites.
On my list of all time great zombie movies, this one is at number 2. Only behind Night of the Living Dead!
You really need to finish the "cornetto trilogy" with The World's End. Like the others, it'll work for the season.
I can really recommend The World's End. It's the least talked about from the trilogy but it is really, really good.
The bloody freezer at the store is the funniest visual joke I've ever seen anywhere.
One of the best zombie spoofs/comedies, along with Return Of The Living Dead, Train To Busan, and Zombieland!👍
Zombie land is a good horror comedy
If you watch the DVD extras, you get the story of how Dianne actually survives after she leaves the bar with David's leg.
Edd's so annoying in this movie🎥
Try tucker and dale versus evil
I find it hilarious that you didn't know zombies need headshots 😂
Addie is so innocent at times 😂
Hope you watch world War z
His stepfather is the same actor who played Davi Jones in Pirates of the Caribean and one of the master vampires in the film Underworld.
Bill Nighty has been in a lot of stuff and had a really good run of films in the 2000-2020’s
Great reaction. Please watch the original Fright Night next. Thank you.
So hoping you add Signs to your list soon for spooky movie month
Record amount of jump scares in this reaction? 😂
To be technical, Pete, was assaulted not mugged. Muggins involve the taking of things, assault on the other hand is when you get physically touched or stabbed, shot etc.
But to be fair, the Cambridge dictionary lists "to mug" as a synonym for "to assault". And yet, their definitions for those two are different. 🤔
Horror Comedies, and B-Horror movies are the BEST way to get into Horror if you're struggling.
Another kinda fun (and romantic) zombie movie you could consider (maybe for next year as I suppose your schedule for this October is already full), is Warm Bodies (2013).
It kinda went under the radars, but I actually liked it more than Shaun of the Dead.
Comedies for October:
"Death Becomes Her" (1992) w/Bruce Willis, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn
"Shadow Of The Vampire" (2000) w/ Wiilem Dafoe,John Malkovich, Carey Elwes
"Sleepy Hollow" (Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee
"Tremors" (1990) Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Reba McEntire, Michael Gross, Arianna Richards
"Tremors 2: Aftershocks" (1996) Fred Ward, Michael Gross
"Tremors 3: Back to Perfection" (2001) Michael Gross, Arianna Richards
"So I Married An Axe Murderer" (1993) Mike Myers, Nancy Travis
"Elvira Mistress of the Dark" (1988)
"Elvira's Haunted Hills" (2001)
"The Addams Family" (1991)
"Addams Family Values" (1993)
"Sweeney Todd" (2007) Directed by Tim Burton, based on a stage play
"Dark Shadows" (2012) Directed by Tim Burton, based on a 1960's TV show
Remember, Martin Freeman was Nicholas Angel’s superior officer in London in Hot Fuzz.
In the Horror Comedy genre, there are the classics like "Evil Dead 2"(Evil Dead was more serious, not comedy) and it's sequel "Army of Darkness", "Zombieland" and "Zombieland 2", "Tucker and Dale Vs Evil" and "From Dusk 'Til Dawn"(not traditional horror comedy but horror with just a few comedic moments).
"I don't know if the jumpscares will get me in this movie too...we'll see!""
Me: *Laughs in Noelish and Yvonnese*
Horror Comedies you could check out "Dale and Tucker vs evil" , "Evil Dead 2" , "the Burbs", and "cabin in the woods"
I'm sure someone's coverd it be check out "Spaced" "Greenwing" and "Blackbooks" all great comedy shows from this era
If you like horror comedies, you should try "Young Frankenstein" (1974)... It is in the top two Mel Brooks movies(IMHO) and it stars Gene Wilder!
> Zombie gets impaled
Addie: "How is she still alive?!"
I think you're missing a fundamental aspect of what makes a zombie ... a zombie.
Since you watched this and "Zombieland" and you like horror comedies, you could give "Night of the living Deb (2015) a try.
I love your reactions!!! Please watch "The Exorcist" (1973) to complete your Halloween season this year.
If you're going to finish the Cornetto Trilogy with The World's End, I suggest going back and reacting to Spaced, the BBC comedy series, with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and directed by Edgar Wright years before Shaun of the Dead. It has fourteen episodes split over two series (seasons) of seven apiece, and it's a real gem. Each episode takes its influence from a Hollywood movie and the Matrix-inspired episode was one of my favorites.
A great zombie movie recommendation for this year's spooky season is " Night of the Living Dead 1990 " it's the quintessential zombie movie. Nick Frost and Simon Pegg have said in interviews that it was their biggest inspiration for Shawn of the dead
That was fun!
After Cornetto another Pegg/Frost movie is ‘Paul’ with a great cast including Jason Bateman plus some SNL alumni and voice work by Serh Rogan.
Looking for another dark comedy zombie movie? Return of the Living Dead (1985). My favorite zombie flick
One of the employed zombies is the guy whom was busting Shaun's chops earlier in the movie.😂
I love this movie. So many great clever lines in it and foreshadowing humor etc. Some of my favorites are the "I think they're for me" flowers moment. And the "there's nothing left of the man you loved in that car" ::turns off the loud music:: zombie Philip moment. Glad you enjoyed!
According to a "Shawn of the Dead" comic Diane actually survives by clubbing the zombies with Davids leg until she can climb a tree. IIRC she actually eats davids leg while up in the tree too. Lmaoooooooo.
I love this movie. So stupid it is FREAK'IN FUNNY! I have to watch Hot Fuzz now. Great reactions throughout the whole movie, Addie. And thanks again for sharing this with us.
to be 29 in 2004, he would have to be born in 1978. He was given tea with sugar in between the ages of 2-4 ??
Shaun's taller roommate (who gets zombified) also appeared as Saal, a member of the Xandar Nova Force, in Guardians of the Galaxy.
I would recommend for horror comedy, Zombieland, Dale and Tucker vs Evil, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.
Gotta love Bill Nighy (step dad) been in some my favourite movies including Underworld and Pirates of Caribbean.
The only connection within the Cornetto Trilogy is the consumption of a Cornetto -- what's called a Drumstick in the US.
"I didn't think it would be that gruesome..."
tell me you haven't seen many zombie movies without telling me you haven't seen many zombie movies...
"Zombies I guess don't really get me" - Allie 34:32
That's because they don't have your braaaiiinnsss
saw this movie when it first came out. I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God cannot stand one iota of sin in His presence, because He is holy. so God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps:
1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost.
2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell).
3. believe that Jesus (who is God in the flesh) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins.
4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven
(nor a combination of faith and your self-righteous works).
5. pray to God NOW that you're following these steps because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🔥😰
35:38 - (Looks back at the part where she was confused about the basic fact of how to kill a zombie)
(Insert "You don't say?" meme here)
Hey Addie ^.^
If you're looking for other 'spooky' movies for Halloween, So I Married an Axe Murderer is a horror comedy (more comedy than horror) featuring Mike Myers, defo recommend
For a fun comedy/love story with zombies check out "Warm Bodies". Kind of a spin on Romeo & Juliet and it's super cute and sweet.
yes, definitely go with movies that ENTERTAIN you. why torture yourself? keep it fun!
Wonderfull reaction! Another horror comedy that doesn't seem to be getting the October love it deserves is Cockneys vs Zombies. 76% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Cheers, y'all.
Ed is the male version of me after 5-6 pints on Friday nights when I just got paid and I’m on a level
‘Can I get…any of you c**ts a drink?….’
"Zombies don't get me." Ok, Addie, may i introduce you to 28 Days Later and Train to Busan. Thats a joke, please don't consider those. I can't be that mean.
