Oh for y'all who are aware of the series The Chosen, about Jesus and his disciples, the last episode of season 2 introduced us to Judas. The actor playing Judas has spent years researching him. He found out the name Judas was a generic name for the time, like Steve or Joe today, and that Iscariot comes from a Latin term meaning "betrayer". So his name is literally "Bob the Backstabber".
This story does have some flaws. Jephthah did promise to give whoever greeted him first up but actually he did not literally sacrifice his daughter. Whether or not you like it should not be a defining factor on whether God exists. Because if he does he'll exist whyher you like it or not. It would just be a fact of reality. Ehh.. I'm really surprised yall dropped the ball with Jephthah's vow. As knowledgeable as yall are about historical culture I figured yall would have seen through that one. The willing fulfillment of this vow by Jephthah’s daughter appears to contradict the literal interpretation of a child sacrifice. Not only were such sacrifices clearly forbidden and abominated in Scripture (Deut. 12:31; 18:9-12; cf. 2 Kings 3:27; 23:10; Is. 57:5), but the concern of the text is never death, but always virginity. In 11:37, Jephthah’s daughter requests a two-month leave in order to lament her virginity. Then, in 11:38, the text records that while with her friends, she wept over the fact of her virginity. Then again, in 11:39, it is recorded that Jephthah fulfilled his vow to the LORD, and the text clearly describes how this vow was fulfilled-“that is, she did not know a man.” It appears, therefore, that Jephthah’s vow consisted of offering a member of his house to the full-time service of the LORD, and thus not to the normal duties of a household, such a marriage and having children. Service of this type in not unknown in the Old Testament (Ex. 38:8; 1 Sam. 2:22; cf. 1 Sam. 1:11, 22-28).
There is one evil ten times worse than others. Its whose name is mentioned in all that evil. The one who has killed millions, if not billions without remorse. God himself.

Here’s a story that never gets talked about. The Levites concubine Judges 19-20. After a group of benjamites(a tribe of Israel) gangr*pe a concubine she dies. The Levite cuts her into pieces and sends them to the other tribes and they have a civil war. They felt bad killing all of the benjamite women so they attack a city for not showing up for the civil war and murdered everyone except for the virgin girls, it turned out that there wasn’t enough virgins so they kidnapped even more from a dance festival. And god had absolutely no problem with this.
You'll note that many of the chapters in this section of the Bible begin along the lines of "And there was no king, so every man did as he saw fit." This was a representation of the chaos which occurred during the time in which Israel had refused to acknowledge God as their leader, and so were lost. I hope this helped!
Kinda messed up to include Judas. If he didn't turn over Jesus, there would be no Christianity. It was his divine purpose to be the villain. Can't condemn a guy for doing what he was ordained to do by God, especially if you believe in free will.
I'm not sure where you got your information about the estimated death toll of the Slaughter of the Innocents, but I've heard much lower numbers, considering the population of Bethlehem would not have been very much, and even less would be the number of boys under the age of two. The estimates provided in the video seem quite exaggerated to me.
I remember about Ahab, and he got karma on what he and his wife did to Naboth and his family All of Ahab's family will die a horrible death and they will be eaten by dogs/canines and maybe Vultures/Eagles(i don't remember this one sorry) Only Ahab lived longer, the rest of his family died.
I read somewhere that Judas tried to return the silver but they wouldn’t accept it, so he bought the field, as mentioned here, but that it was a place to bury the poor and nameless as penance for his betrayal. I can’t remember why exactly but that’s where the name Potters Field originated.
I highly doubt Herold would not have carried out the massacre of the innocents. Believe me, if Herold (or any ancient ruler) wanted someone dead, heads would most certainly roll.

Some historians believe that the town of Bethlehem when Jesus would have been born was likely in the to the 300-500 population range. Meaning? If Herod killed all those children, it's likely a number in the 10-20 kids total. For Herod and the actions we know he did in life, this would have likely been a quick footnote, if it happened.

@@Norwegianization I don't know the specifics of the levitical sacrifices so take what I I with a grain of salt. But the waged of sin is death and so something needs to die in the place of sin. Just the law of morality in the Bible and is the reason why humans die and aren't immortal like ot was in the garden of eden and why Jesus' sacrifice was needed.
Whether or not you like it should not be a defining factor on whether God exists. Because if he does he'll exist whyher you like it or not. It would just be a fact of reality. And if you think God is immortal because of it, you'd have to remember that if he exists he'd also be the one defining morality making it impossible to legitimately call him immoral.

Thanks for holding it down here, they really fumbled the ball there.
I honestly never payed that much attention to the text

Agree
But he still chose to do that no? Free will?
I'm not sure where you got your information about the estimated death toll of the Slaughter of the Innocents, but I've heard much lower numbers, considering the population of Bethlehem would not have been very much, and even less would be the number of boys under the age of two. The estimates provided in the video seem quite exaggerated to me.
I remember about Ahab, and he got karma on what he and his wife did to Naboth and his family
All of Ahab's family will die a horrible death and they will be eaten by dogs/canines and maybe Vultures/Eagles(i don't remember this one sorry)
Only Ahab lived longer, the rest of his family died.
I read somewhere that Judas tried to return the silver but they wouldn’t accept it, so he bought the field, as mentioned here, but that it was a place to bury the poor and nameless as penance for his betrayal. I can’t remember why exactly but that’s where the name Potters Field originated.
There are different accounts. But Judas did hang himself and the land he died i think its potters field
The 'blah, blah, blah' thing always cracks me up!
I highly doubt Herold would not have carried out the massacre of the innocents. Believe me, if Herold (or any ancient ruler) wanted someone dead, heads would most certainly roll.
One thing about judas though is that he felt so bad after he did suicide and got rid of the money.
Why would you put Jephthah as a villain? The Bible depicts him as a highly flawed but good hero.
Probably because making your only daughter a burnt offering after making a rash vow to God is considered evil.
