Growing up Catholic. Went to a Catholic middle and high school. Went to church on Sunday. None of these stories were hidden. We studied all of them. We heard all of them in Church. Solomon's idea on the baby was drilled into our heads as a his wisdom (knowing the real mother would rather give up the baby than see it hurt). I can only speak for my sect of faith, I'm not sure about others.
We also learned the Old Testament ones as a Jew

No, the church encourages people to read the passages they recommend. It's how brainwashing works.
It's a bit hard to believe, since people were burnt on a stake for reading the bible in their own languages. You also gotta take them while they're young, no adult with critical thinking would ever believe any of it.
The idea that the church is trying to hide stuff that's avaliable in the best selling, most printed and available book in the world, from people who are capable of reading, is absolutely hilarious.

@@talbert7814 The ones outside of the cannon were removed because they were actually interesting, and if the Bible is too compelling normies might start picking it up. The best thing to do is to read as many holy texts from as many religions as you can find and follow your heart.
When half the book is the same stuff over and over then the only real funny part is the church reiterating every line four or five times because it's all piecemeal stories haphazardly strewn together loosely resembling something that I guess you could call a narrative

Need to point out when you mentioned Herod, you actually covered two different men. Herod the Great ordered the death of the children of Bethlehem, however the death of Herod you described is actually that of his grandson Herod Agrippa.

Additionally I think 2 of the things up there were actually not in the Bible for example u said one in the book of Enoch, that isn’t in the Bible but as a Christian I do believe that these things did take place and for many of the apocalyptical things they could be metaphorical. Also finally none of these things take away from the point that Jesus was a man and he died for the cross for our sins. If anything it shows it’s historical accuracy for example the Herod one (I think it was Herod Antipas for that one)

Also, they mixed up Judas' death in Matthew with his death mentioned in Acts. In Matthew, Judas hangs himself, it doesn't say any more than just that; he doesn't fall down and burst open. He hanged himself after feeling regret and returning the money he got for betraying Jesus. Acts says Judas bought a field with the money he got for betraying Jesus and then tripped and fell while running in the field and burst open, spilling his guts everywhere.
As someone who has been a Christian my whole life, I never thought to consider these "hidden". Solomon and the child was actually super common to have as a Sunday school lesson, as well as some of the others mentioned. Some obviously, are not appropriate for young children to learn about, until they're a bit older.
I think the reason is why they are "hidden" is because a lot of believers don't know their own Bible. It is drilled into us to read.
In Israel we have to take bible classes for 12 years and then do finals in it.
Most of these stories are really “basic” and well known and taught in elementary/middle school.
Every kid knows this things I don’t know why they are hidden.

Growing up I heard the majority of these bible stories. I disagree that they are hidden, as they were openly discussed in the church groups I attended as a young lad. Thats not to say other religions won't go out of their way to avoid them but I remember reading Bible passages and asking questions and I was always answered, in my opinion, in an honest manner.. I was always fascinated. Whether you believe in the Bible or God in general, I think there's a story or moral for everyone to reflect upon.

Questions spark discussions, and discussions done right help us deepen our understanding of the topic of such discussion.
If someone ever said that questioning something in the church is a sin, then either they dont study enough to guarantee their ground in a discussion, they are ignorant or they are trying to use and twist the bible for their own interests and to gain influence and control over people.
Either way its not good.
I actually learned about a lot of this in Church when I was younger but learned about certain other stories later, reading on my own.

I actually learned the king Solomon one in Sunday school. That was some pretty good detective work I must say
I had that one at school school, didn't even know it was from the Bible.
As I recall it, when Solomon said that he was going to cut the baby in half, one of the women confessed that she was not the real mother. But Solomon concluded that she Was the real mother, because a real mother would rather swallow her pride, let people think she had lied, and let another woman have her child, then to see her baby killed.

We were taught all of these stories in our Baptist church except for those that aren't cannon.

“Apocryphal text” widely known & accepted as not part of the original Bible, therefore debated on how much it could have been inspired by God.
Meanwhile in the apocrypha God talks. But they had to remove it from some Bible translations due to it making people ask questions that they didn’t want to answer.

Definitely not hidden. I learned these in not just Sunday school, but also in church services, as well as at school. They’re well known observations to know what to avoid.
I had a Bible with me during most of my childhood and I read those all the time and some were occasionally preached at church (maybe, it's been a while so my memory is a little foggy) but point is these stories weren't at all hidden and we weren't discouraged from reading them ourselves
To be fair as far as the story of lot is concerned the daughters decided to get their father drunk and "lay' with him because as far as they were concerned they thought the entire world had been destroyed and saw that has a means of repopulation
I grew up Southern Baptist and I attended a Baptist college. I have learned, and been taught, the Solomon story one many occasions.
I had already heard of the story involving Soloman in Sunday school because in the end, everyone was happy.
It's important to remember the Bible isn't a book, it's a collection of books, letters, histories and poems. In today's context we might interpret certain parts as symbolic, but mankind was a lot more cruel and wicked back then which is usually the moral of the story; that God has witnessed all of man's immortality, depravity and cruelty and how He responds to it
Understanding all of that is that God's work is it God breathed
Man's immorality, depravity and cruelty are why Jesus Christ had to suffer and die on the Cross for us.

And who is "us", you ask? In short, the offer of salvation is universal-to all who will believe (Romans 10:11, 13). We also know that, regardless of how broad Christ’s atonement is, it is limited in some respect-it is effective only for those who believe (John 3:18). John 10 provides more insight into the issue of whom Jesus died for. In that passage we see that Christ died for His sheep (John 10:11, 15). Also, all who are His sheep will come to Him (verses 4 and 27), and they are kept secure in Christ (verses 28-30).

Went to CCD and grew up Catholic. Heard all of the canon stories from home and church and the apocryphal ones from late night wikipedia binges, you know the ones. About Lot and offering his daughters to the people, from what I was taught it had to do with the law of hospitality which was a big deal in those times. If I remember correctly, not opening one's home to strangers and offering them succor was like committing a mortal sin, and the host has to meet all of the guests' needs. The law of hospitality had something to do with the distance between settlements and dangers on the road so if one didn't help travelers who came to stay, one was essentially killing them.
It's deeply strange to give your children stories like this to read. Of all the literature in human history, Catholics have their kids read violent iron age myths rooted in primitive superstitions. And none of them question it. Bizarre.
I remember almost all of these being taught before I was 8. Didn't scar me either, learned alot about evil rulers and evil people. I'm not perfect but these stories definitely help you get closer.
None of these stories are hidden. My parents and church teachers taught us every one of them here and even more disturbing ones that aren’t in here.

Ya the Lutheran church doesn’t really hide anything in the scriptures. The church DOES, however, keep silent on Luther’s polemics against the Jews and unofficial sanctioning of polygamy. Didn’t find out about that until reading Wikipedia as an adult

I've been reading more and more and learning the Bible. I've discovered a few scriptures that aren't talked about. I find it amazing how the Bible is supposed to be literal but some of these stories or scriptures we would never do
Not everything in the Bible is literal, some are parables some are spiritual and some have different contexts which one would never be able to understand unless you're reading the Bible with the Holy spirit

As a non-believe it kind of amazes me how many Christians have never read the whole Bible. You’d think if there was a book containing the answers to all of life’s most important questions reading it would be the first thing on your to do list.

I grew up in a Baptist family in Ohio. None of these stories were hidden by my church. I heard them all.
So many people in the comments saying this wasn’t hidden from them growing up and STILL believe all of these stories are not only true (mainly talking about the supernatural parts because of course people tortured and harmed by others back then), but are justified because people a long time ago said so.

As and Adventist Christian I can say I love the Bible and my parents are always willing to explain what I don't understand. The Bible is by no means A "dark book" it just records stuff that actually happened and the fact y'all can't talk to your parents without getting put down speaks to their character and has nothing to do with the Bible itself...

My pastor had always preached about this growing up because he preaches from genesis to revelation
I got really into the bible when I was nine and read the whole thing in a couple of years. I found it horrific and didnt want anything to do with the Christian God and the bible after this. My mother still made me to go to Sunday school and only allowed me to stop going when I was twelve. My Sunday school teachers could never answer my questions on the bible. I'm not going to worship anything which is violent

King Solomon wisdom story was actually told as it is, to this day it's still a great lesson we learned as kids in Bible studies.
The verses presented here are really scary if read alone. This is why reading the Bible in the right context is essential. We do not just read the verses singly otherwise, we will be lead astray and will result in a different meaning.

Murdering the children are really scary of course but then if you look at it in a wider scope, eating their children are due to the results of famine which is due to war that took place. But that doesn't mean the Bible is promoting killings, cannibalism etc. It never sugar coats the reality that these things took place in the past. The context here is the age, when and where it took place. So to get it in the right context, people before are less civilized and mostly but not all express their authority through wars and not through peace talks just what we do in the modern days. It is also during that time that people ways of looking for food are limited maybe that's why they opted that to survive. As you can see, the Bible just showed the ways of people before but not necessarily encourage people to do the same in this modern age. I hope this somehow made my point clearer.

If only the people being depicted could see how their words and experiences, have been twisted and misunderstood, rehashed and recopted...
They would not have bothered to write anything down and prefer to be forgotten, than remembered in such a wrongful way.
Some of the stories in the video aren't mentioned in the closed canon which is your known KJV bible but the ones that are mentioned were and are being taught in church, it's not hidden. Both protestants and catholics openly address the stories. I guess they are not oftenly mentioned in sermons so it makes it seem like they aren't talked about.

Apart from the cannibalism and the apocraphyl stories... Yes I heard all of this in Sunday School. Some of it in the 4th and 5th grade, but they did still teach these stories.

The king Solomon one was ace although I do remember learning it at some point In school.
I don't mean to be offensive but I think it's so unfair how Christianity/Catholicism tries to be so perfect when in reality there are good and bads to it too.
As a Christian we try our best to obey the one and only living God. We try to be more like Jesus who is perfect. None of us are good because we all sin but Jesus didn't because he is God in the flesh. We try to obey God because we should all have a high moral standard the Ten Commandments.

I feel like these stories would only be hidden in certain churches depending on location and who the pastor was. AnecdotalIy, I can say yes, they won’t go into detail about Samson for Sunday school, because that’s usually ages 3-8, where they just don’t want to alarm or traumatize them.
I love the story of the cutting child.

I did learn about the Solomon story when I was at Sunday school. But as I got older, I always interpreted that story as Solomon giving the baby to the one who would love him more, rather than actually caring about who the bilological mother was
