  • So i reviewed the Renault Koleos, the 6 airbag, front wheel drive 5 seater version of the Nissan X-Trail. It's specifications are rather good. Not the most well specced in its segment, but it has all the important entertainment and safety features one needs.
    Full Infotainment system with portrait touch screen and SatNav
    Arkamys Sound System
    18" rims
    6 airbags
    In car ambient lighting
    Full LED headlamps
    Leather seats with powered driver side
    Blind spot warning

    hi Bobby I'm from the Philippines. we don't have Renault here but I still watch all of your reviews. I like that you are honest and obviously not paid to favor some cars. no stereotyping here but brits really do a bad job putting cars together like the Range Rover and discovery good luck owning those after warranty expires. good job

    the french company Faurecia makes the interior of the koleos and this company does the interior of the german premium brands too . it 's why the quality is good.

    Hello Bobby, I like the way you review cars. I never noticed this before, but most car reviews are very dry and bland, mostly about the package, but not so much the small details that make it up. You add a nice personal touch and even insight into what the designers' motivations might have been for choosing certain features or style accents. Very good!
    I didn't realize there were still interesting things to note about Renault cars. As far as cars go, I'm one of those stuck in the 60's and 70's when cars had a definite styling and character, and there was no mistaking one manufacturer's product from another's. Unfortunately, the summary of this car would have to go something like this: "It's a Renault, that could be mistaken for an Audi if you removed the badge, but it's really a Nissan underneath". Not exactly a car to dream about, but it's encouraging the lengths to which the interior design goes to try and distinguish itself. There is still a spark of individuality! Faint, relegated to the interior, but it's still alive.
    It struck me as odd that the bumper on this car did not inspire enough confidence to sit on it. I mean.. it's a bumper, designed to absorb impact from another car! I know, it's just a cover for the real impact member underneath, but still, it's a bit of a sad statement about modern cars.

      +stepsvideos thank you so much for your comment! Wow would love to know more about cars of previous eras. I'm sure they're all very special in one way or other

    • @stepsvideos
      @stepsvideos 7 лет назад

      Bobby, apologies, I forgot to mention just a couple of things about the review. I was left wondering about the engine. Maybe a couple of words about that would be a good addition. Also I was wondering how the heck "simulated" shift works. Maybe adding and removing tension from the belt? Definitely will look into that.
      Forget about the old cars. It's just nostalgia and memories on my part. You already trashed two of my favorites: British and Italian. Have to admit though that it's just looking back with rose colored glasses. If I ever had one again, I would need a modern car as a reliable backup. I don't think dealing with electrical problems and rust would be my cup of tea anymore. Just having one to look at, and weekend drives, would be great though! Believe it or not, I used to take the cylinder head off my 1965 mini every week end, just to clean it! I can probably be excused for that, since it was my first car. Imagine how long that would take, even on a 4 cylinder, today.

    I'm slightly confused Bobby. Is the car you are testing here the spec for the Asian, EU, UK, US or Australian market? I think the Asian and Australian might be the same but I'm not sure? It's just that you mentioned how the British laugh at the French, and how you talk about Jaguar no longer being the high quality it used to be etc? Jaguar is now owned by Tata Motors of India by the way. Also, I recently heard all the new Koleos range will be built and assembled by Samsung in their South Korean plant. Is this true? Thanks. By the way, have you seen the new Range Rover Velar yet? The door handles disappear into the doors. It's amazing!

    HEY BOBBY! this review of the koleos convinced my parents to invest in a a koleos in black. we bought it over the impul xtrail because it has 6 airbags instead of the xtrail's 2 airbags in malaysia (dumb right?) ANyways the koleos was a GREAT BUY! and we are all really loving the premium feel and interior cabin space of the car for its price point. We also have a cayenne, A6 and old cx9 and the koleos seems to have more legroom. amazing. THANKS FOR THE GREAT REVIEW.
    We have already ordered the new 2017 cx9 mazda coming around june.. do u reckon this car will blow us away as much as the koleos did?

      Bobby Ang how do u compare the way the cx9 and koleos drive?

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  7 лет назад +5

      +MyAquaticDiary the CX-9 is by far a larger, more premium luxury full size SUV whereas the Koleos is a mid size SUV. It's also a lot more powerful than the Koleos. But the Koleos ranks amongst the better handling mid size SUVs out there

    I'm just wondering the fuel economy for the Koleos. Is it better than the mazda CX5 2.5 l petrol?

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  7 лет назад +1

      I highly doubt it, not that the Koleos is a guzzler, but mazda's skyactiv is no joke, and past experiences of the xtrail tells me that it's not as lean on petrol as the cx-5's engine. I mean, if you drive both cars frugally, i'm sure the koleos will do well too, but the mazda skyactiv engine's magical thing, is when you drive it hard, it's still frugal ... that's something that any engine paired with a cvt will show high consumption.

    • @groundingtiming
      @groundingtiming 7 лет назад

      I have this perspective that used 7 seater is very overwork as compared then normal sedans(schools runs.. road trip... deliver bread to whole world.. etc. What you think?), would prefer new. As for budget, not sure price in Malaysia as I'm from Singapore, but I reckon $100-130K? Im quite fond of the sharan, new is 175K, used yr14 is around 130K.
      (Not a huge fan of 7 seater, but looks like its being practical.)

    Hey Bobby, Great review! I need your advice. I want to buy a SUV, but I cant decide on buying this or the Tiguan, so which one would you choose if you were to get one of the two?

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  6 лет назад +1

      Tiguan is more like a 1.4 high spec Golf TSI that is jacked up. It's front wheel drive only, a lot smaller than the Koleos. Handles better and has a more fun power train.
      Koleos looked one class above, it is also one size bigger.
      Do you go weekend driving enjoyment drives? If you don't then the Koleos is by all means a better family car. Handsome one too.

    • @a.y.s.101
      @a.y.s.101 6 лет назад

      I live in Iran, and here we have the 2.0 TSI 4 motion drive Tiguan. I strictly like the Koleos because of its looks, but only downfall in my opinion is the CVT gearbox which is holding me back on buying it. I was hoping that you could help me on making my choice since you have driven both cars. One thing I like to mention is that in Iran road conditions are not that great, so which one do you think is more comfortable on such roads.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  7 лет назад +2

      +Zachary Ong looks ok, but knowing vw group, they'll purposely make vw font or interface not look as nice ad audis, and some areas of interior too, and the same goes for skoda under vw. Which imo is a pity when everyone is doing their very best to beat competition, there shouldn't be any concerns of in house product hierarchy

    • @unintentionallyfire
      @unintentionallyfire 7 лет назад +1

      From all the reviews I've read it's still a bloody good car. I definitely know it won't be as nice as a Q7 or whatever but for an equivalent of 180k ringgit it's a quality car. Already won a few awards over in the UK.
      Unfortunately yes, the hierarchy thing is true, but late model Skodas (they don't sell them in m'sia?) are at the same level and in some cases (Kodiaq, Superb L&K) have marginally better quality than the equivalent VW. Better equipped over here in NZ too for cheaper.

  • @myklagenfurt

    The problem with the malaysian car market, in my opinion, is that their is not much choice (Extras, Engines). Like you said bevor, their will be no bose sound system or the full spec of savety equipment because of cost reason. Then I think why not make it avaliable for an extra charge :( .
    And another thing is the old fashed engine choice in Malaysia. Renault uses the 2,5l 4Zylinder with CVT and 175hp, right = terrible...
    what ist with the modern engines Renault uses in Europe. Like the 2.0L 220hp or the 1,6 with 205hp with an DSG gearbox. Or the Hyundai Santafe has an 260hp Turbo engines in the us, in malaysia again an 2,5L 180hp Engine :( :(
    But maybe this kind of engines and gearboxes are not suitable for the tropics ?

    drive it 2 years and then tell us its solid. Renault is an expensive joke. The only plus point is the Nissan drivetrain

    Jesus Christ... I'd buy this in a heart beat, but enough with Silver/White/Dark grey etc... Nothing is more disappointing than spending $40,000 and realising your car is the same colour as every other car and cab and service vehicle on the road! Please some new colours...
