    For me (an inexperienced player when it comes to fight games) quarter-circling has always been my main difficulty. Would you recommend trying out something like the pad you showed in this video and using the d-pad instead of analog sticks? It felt kind of strange trying to use the d-pad to quarter circle on a standard PS4 controller so I’m a little skeptical

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  6 лет назад +33

      The D-pad is my preferred way to play on controller, It feels strange at first for sure, but with some practice it kind of becomes muscle memory!

    • @Goooogle
      @Goooogle 6 лет назад +12

      I used to feel the same but when your quarter circles don't work most of the time are because: 1- You press the trigger or button before completely finishing the quarter circle (normally because you do it fast) and 2- You're doing the move in the middle of an animation where you're not allowed to attack

    I grew up with arcade games, and although I've never been a fighting game expert per se, I also had an equal amount of time playing on consoles. The reason I use a fight stick for FighterZ is 1 because of the customization options and 2 because I have really big hands! When there's complex button sequences involved it's always really hard for me to do on a traditional controller because of the small buttons, so a fight stick is ideal because I always know what button I'm pushing.

    I've always been awful at fighting games with a controller. (I'm not any good with a stick, either) I just can't seem to get the inputs that I want. When I tried a stick with this game, suddenly I could do things much easier. I don't know what it is, but I just play better with a stick. I had never used an arcade stick before that day, but after using it, I can never go back. Sticks just make sense to me for fighting games. When I first started fighting games using a stick was hard, but when I got used to it, I preferred it. The pads hurt my thumbs with all the half circles. Tekken is brutal with a controller, because all the moves that require you to hit face buttons at the same time, Try hitting x and triangle fast in a combo.

    I recently got back into playing fighterz seriously and got my manual combos back down but I notice when watching really high skill competitive players that in their air combos from manuals they manage to do a 2H in the air then keep attacking to chain more damage but anytime I try to replicate this my 2H just has a sort of mini cutscene knocking them in the air with no opportunity to chain? It might just be me doing something wrong but I'm thinking it might just be something only possible with a fight stick as maybe you can just do the inputs faster to cancel the locked knock up animation? Any help would be massively appreciated as I wanna up my combos to the next level.

    I use a stick for all fighting games except Mortal Kombat. I feel like the layout just isn’t made for that game (2punches, 2 kicks, and a block button). Got my first stick for PS3 with SFIV Vanilla and never looked back. I used to play in arcades, it never had one at home. It was a bit of a transition (looong time since I’ve played in arcades) but once you get it down, it’s the only way you’ll want to play.

  • @krafti01

    I am by no means good at fighting games, but from my personal experience stick is more natural and slightly easier to play on. I have played DBF on both pad and stick and frankly I have a very hard time trying to use the thumb stick or directional buttons for my inputs, either too many directional inputs leading to things like jumping at the wrong time or missing an input for a special to end a combo. Now to stick. To put it simply, the sky is the limit. You can spend as much or as little money as you want on a stick. Personally I have 2 sticks, the first one is a PS3 Injustice Stick with added Sanwa buttons, and the second is a ~$40 stick i built myself (within the past week) using a prebuilt box and cheap knock-off stick, buttons, and usb encoder; frankly they both perform great for me and I have no problems using either. Again, like Doto and many others have said, it's simply personal preference and practice with your controller of choice! Sorry for the stupid long reply, but I hope this helps.

  • @Jonathan-sf6ej
    @Jonathan-sf6ej 6 лет назад +1

    Hori Fighting Commander on PC works well for me. It gives you plenty of extra buttons. My Soul Calibur 4 fight stick died a couple years ago, so I've been using controllers since then, but I can use either a fight stick or a gamepad. Both have their pros and cons. If your serious about the game, it's probably worth trying both a stick and a pad, that way you can judge yourself which one helps you do things like instant air dashes easier. It's not like the fight stick will go to waste or anything. You can use it for the next 10 years if you get a really good one.

      Yes, I'm thinking of perhaps setting RB and RT as assist keys and instead using using the X+Y and A+B to do dragon rush and super dash instead. I'm also thinking of maybe changing left and right triggers (RST and L) to be assists.

    I use the xarcade tank stick. It’s definitely a good option it’s durable and has 8 face buttons for each player. Two rows of 3 and then 2 bottom buttons that you use your thumb with. One plus is that it has a trackball so you can play some classic arcade games. Or super monkey ball in dolphin.

    In my opinion. The stick also has room to press buttons with better accuracy, and not too mention you can customize a fight pad with layouts. My Xbox one remote sucks when it comes to using a d pad or a thumbstick. Clicking the stick back and forth for dodging or quick maneuvers is not easy to do with a cheap little thumbstick or a d pad with only four directions.

    i use keyboard since i have better control of "stick" inputs. Easier to do quarter circles because you literally just press two buttons for the quarter circle and whatever you have for the desired attack button. Also better to move in the air while doing combos. The only janky part i can really see is that its VERY different from controllers so if you're used to controllers...you're gonna have a difficult time, but it's very rewarding if you have patience. Only obnoxious part is if you do not have good control of your fingers and you misinput. PRACTICE!

    • @qerlak

      Desperado I actually just switched to keyboard from controller for that very reason - I was dropping dpad inputs left and right, especially doing instant air dashes. I switched to keyboard two days ago and I’m already doing better than I ever was with a controller simply because I find the keyboard to be much more consistent with inputs for me personally. Granted I am average at best in this game, so I really didn’t have a very high bar to exceed switching to keyboard, but I’m super glad I switched.

    Nah, you really don't need to buy a $200-$300 rip-off fightstick. You can buy a cheap $60 one then buy the higher quality Sanwa or Qwanba parts (around $20-$30 extra, depending where you get the parts online) to replace the cheap parts in the cheap fightstick. Works really great! I've done that with my Mayflash fightstick and it hasn't worn out or stopped working and I've had it for 5 years now, and it still works reliably.
    Granted, you may have to slightly modify the cheap fightstick's housing to make Sanwa buttons fit or solder the Sanwa/Qwanba joystick wires to the cheap stick's motherboard, but it isn't time consuming and is pretty easy to do and you save yourself hundreds of dollars for a rough equivalent that'll last just as long and feel just as high quality!

      Try looking into jump cancels my friend i’m sure you can find a video out there but essentially it is cancelling your jump into a hit so when in air you can hit light,jump,medium,jump,light etc. or put your own mix on it. Jump cancelling from the ground however is a little harder so I recommend just practicing your jump cancels in air or after you super dash or something. Then after the fact when you’re comfortable, all across the board, from neutral, you can press crouching medium,standing medium, jump,light, jump, medium,jump, light and etc. hope this helps

    So I do agree you should get quality but with fighterz it has all controllers in mind and works really well with even cheap fightsticks. Leffen (the number 1 player on PC) even says that he would recommend against buying a 200 fightstick as it really isn't as much of an advantage to you in this game as it is in like SF, however, duration is key if you plan on playing for a very long time and with other fighters.

      SillySausage I used to have two genuine USB Saturn pads from SLS Japan and my ex left the bag I had it in out in a parking lot because she got mad at me over the phone and she had been watching my bag for me while out in the field with the army. I was 15m away and when I got there my bag was gone with both controllers and some things my mom had given me years ago. I didn't pay much for them, I got lucky and got them on eBay for 10 bucks when nobody knew they were legit. Now they're literally priceless. Who knows where they are. The Hori pad is good but nothing compares to the Saturn pad. I don't know why people can't make a replica of it. As for my ex, I'm just hoping karma knows its way around.

    Normally the PS4 controller is fine with me, but not in this game. I find that when I get into it my fast movements with either directional option causes me to press something I don't wanna touch! Be it the edge of my long thumb brushing against the share button, which opens up the goddamn share menu, or if I'm on the analog stick, my thumb falling off the stick completely and hitting the home button. Like you I also have trouble using shoulder buttons quickly enough when I'm trying to link up attacks. It's a real pain in the ass.
    I feel like that due to playing with a fight stick, as long as you can train your fingers to move independently very well you'll eventually have a big advantage over using a normal controller. My logic is as follows, when you're playing with your thumb you have to rapidly move it all over the place, whereas when you're using your fingertips you just have to occasionally move them up and down; otherwise you just have to press down a button. I feel like this increases the speed of your button presses, once you're used to it and reduces the chance of erroring and pressing the wrong buttons. I'm finding some of the combos challenges INCREDIBLY hard to do because I just can't press the buttons consistently fast enough with the standard PS4 controller/layout.

Get a qanba evo drone from qanbausa.com, i know, it is like ~120 dollars if you include shipping and all depends what part of the world you're in, but is really portable, lightweight and it comes with sanwa parts from stock, want to try a controller? Are you gonna be just playing fighting games? Buy a hori fighting commander, cheaper than a ps4 controller, really good quality, and it works on ps4/ps3/pc, if you're going to play something else besides fighting games... you might want a xbox one controller or adapt a ps4 controller using ds4, etc...
