Me: New player, beats story mode, Me: Goes online, ok maybe I'll try one casual match :D Me: Gets hit into an unlimited combo, losses horribly welp ok time to go offline
This was literally me, I did the tutorials and some combo training and when I hit my opponent few times who has like 700+ ranked wins I thought I can do this only to get assblasted by unlimited combo chains which then made me go play Jump Force 🤣🤣🤣
Same smh the same exact thing happened to me. Not only that, I was blocking the entire combo set yet some way either because of network connection (Xbox one) or the lag. I automatically was hit although I holding the block button, I even dodged the overhead and the leg sweep. Yet that one hit turned into a endless combo. Like yeah I had to go play tekken 7 after that, because I was won against the person already. Yet when we did the rematch I was getting obliterated without even taking out one of their characters.
That's me, I gotta start using these tips, playing with thought, and actual strategy instead of panicking, or using one move to much is what I need to work on, glad he made this video! 🙂
Another notice for any people who do make these mistakes, is to practice each of these corrections one at a time. Clogging your mind with everything at once will slow your gameplay down and make you play worse. If you're bad at using your assists, and you always forget to dragon rush, just use one first, and once that becomes natural the other will also follow.
GreenTeaCake good advice! I like to make List in my head with things I need to improve on and think about what skills may rely on each other. Then I set myself ingame goals like "Punish super dash" and maybe another thing like "block low by default and try to look for overheads". When I manage to 2H one or more super dashes and notice or even block an overhead I consider that game a win for myself, even if I loose it eventually.
Very good point. I'm a noob at fighting games and just got this recently. Watching these tutorials and tips get kind of overwhelming for a noob like me so it's better to just take it one step at a time.
Hearing your button taps is wonderful. I can hear how clean your execution is, and its helpful for combo timing. You're so precise, its almost musical. Ignore everyone telling you its annoying or to change a thing. Its good to hear how deliberate your combos are. Audio cues are just as important as muscle memory. People take their ears for granted.
i have a friend that i play this with semi-frequently, and he always rages when i take advantage of these very mistakes. I'm gonna send it to him and hope he starts adapting lol.
Great Video! Very clear explanations of the biggest mistakes that definitely cost new players to lose. & Done so in manner that is not condescending but instead in a way that inspires improvement. Amazing. I for one want players who genuinely enjoy this game to get better at it so maybe they'll pick up some other fighters I play, there's a lot of good ones out there!
General Minded James It angers me when I go on a losing streak but speaking from experience, it helps to watch your match replays and analyze yourself and see what you did/didn’t do and attempt to improve from that. Usually after a few times losing I pick my game up and win
Radic The Hedgehog It's alright, we've all been there. Just learn the motion, practice it for a while, and it'll become second nature when you go to do the move in a real match.
Just wanted to say that today I went online for the second time, went to ranked matchs and I did kept in mind everything you said in this video, and I won all my fights so far. I know it's because I'm going against another new players as well, but honestly, everything you said helped me become a better player (and I can see the difference between how I played the first time and now), so thanks for this!
I don't play this game nearly enough to win a match but greatly appreciate your insight! This is a channel worth following even for the most casual fans of Dragon Ball Fighter Z.
I'm starting this game two years later and this vid is still super helpful. I'll take these basics to the training room and work on improving them. Thank you for the effort you put into your content!
A thorough video, all in all! One thing I would add to the sparking section is how it can be utilized to continue your combo. Do some sort of combo and before the heavy lands, sparkling blast 'em and they'll be put in a bounce frame allowing you to follow up with a few more hits or even a super/ult! Enjoy your endless training Z-Fighters!
Your points are spot on. I've been playing through story mode on hard lately (currently half way through arc 3) and it has taught me all the things you have mentioned. Managing your blue life and you opponent, maximising the use of sparking, carefully spending your meter and blocking. With the limited character and HP difference you face in haard mode, without these you won't be able to beat it. if your at this level I strongly recommend playing through the campaign on hard.
even then, you shouldn't use them unless you're guaranteed to kill or it's the last character since they can just be switched out and you'll have lost 3 bars
The last one was super helpful, I’m no pro player at all but even after playing the game since release I’ll get excited and press buttons when getting beat up. Didn’t even occur to me to just block. Thanks!
Peoples like myself have been playing fighting games for decades now. Trust me learn some patience, as the old saying goes; "Rome Wasn't built In A Day" it takes ages to level up if you're being serious. Don't expect 1 month to make you suddenly an "elite tournament level" player. Learn from failures and keep on improving. Have somebody like a; friend help you develop by being your partner Vs opponent whenever you play on console. Spend many hours in training mode i.e. lab work and suss out; hitboxes, ranges of normal moves of your characters, special moves of various characters, work on various teams etc etc. Take your time man and you'll develop i'm pretty sure. Anyways wish you all the best man, laters!
Perhaps the most quality/realistic video for beginners. Most other one's I've seen just say "get better with combos". Sure, that with help, but you're actually teaching fundamentals of the game here. Without this type of knowledge you're never going to get the frame-perfect combos that people keep trying to say are for beginners.
Your videos are so helpful.. I picked up the game a few months back and tbh played online once and got murked with out even getting in any hits.. I watched some vids did a bunch of regular and combo practice. In between there i was constantly playing arcade in normal.. now I can get S through most of the normal matches along with actually having lots of fun playing the hard courses.. I'm still learning alot I still don't even have the full confidence to go play online.. so far my best team I play with is starter is Gohan teen , then Goku GT and Gotenks. I feel playing with all the small FighterZ makes it a little harder for the opponent to land hits plus they move way faster. Thanks for your videos please keep them coming.. someone should be smart and start charging for online practice training.. lol I mean ppl pay money to just watch ppl play on twitch why not pay to actually learn how to fight like a badass..
My #1 mistake is not blocking enough/reacting and blocking too late. Its insane how much stuff you can escape out of when you actually start blocking. After watching pro league matches and jmcrofts, I just realized how much they block everything.
Me: *dashes into my enemy and backs up when he gets ready to attack* My opponent 2 seconds after the fight: *a player has added a message to one of your groups* - TIMID!
this video is great man thank you. veterans to fighters might think all of this is common sense but to someone like me who hasn't played a fighter since mkx came out it's a perfect tutorial
I've become a better fighter from you're videos. I really appreciate what your content contains and over all I enjoy what you put out. Keep up the amazing work mate!
Number 7 especially is a good tip I can't tell you how many times I watch people play games and listen to them complain the character is responding wrong as they're actively mashing buttons trying to get the game controls to "work faster" lol
Hey, great videos man! Still waiting until you examine mid and high level metas and predicting block strings and when 50/50s are important to detect in corner pressure and calling out techs and how to find competency in advanced stages. Your approach and voicing is great! Since I can't play much currently as a competitor I'm just trying to dig deeper with my viewing ;)
I'm one of those new guys to fighting games like you were talking about and your tips are freally helpful. I just hope I can have the muscle memory to pull of the tips you gave. I find when the game gets hecktic and I'm on the wrong side of a beat down I lose all sense of what I should be doing. I tend to forget just what the combos are and I end up resorting to button mashing in the hopes of regaining some control before the match snowballs into a loss.
OK I learned so much form just one video thank you a lot I will sure try it next time I battle. Keep doing videos like this cause I know there is a lot more to learn than just this. 👍🏻
Air extensions are so easy and amazing to learn, and I felt awesome after picking them up. It really doesn't take much effort. Just press jump right after your light.
Excellent video explaining the mechanics and giving good instruction. The buttons on screen definitely help visually represent what you are talking about and these seem like very great tips. I really wish I enjoyed fighting games. The animations are beautiful, the models are top notch, there was so much time, effort and love put into the mechanics to make them enjoyable for people who really sink their teeth into these kinds of games. I wish I had the interest to get better and play smarter so I could enjoy them more. I just don't have that competitive nature in me when it comes to fighters, unfortunately for me.
best beginner tutorial so far. all the other tutorials start with learning "bread and butter combos" and other shit like that while im not even properly using all the mechanics. this video helped so much. ehen you said dont mash buttens when getting up it blew my fucking mind even tho its the most basic stuff ever.
Damn, you pointed out a mistake I'm guilty of so thanks for the tips! It's hard to learn from mistakes if you don't know your making them! Very well executed video!

Today i got in a epic winning streak and i ascended from saiyan to supersaiyan and also got a orange square, and then you upload a video...what a beatiful day
Absolute Zero How does that even work? I’m a dark green Namekian but it happened while my brother was playing casual. I thought it was only for ranked matches. What exactly is the process in ranking up? Also add me on PS4: gxdslump
Ricó To get to the next rank e.g Dark Green to Green you have to get 10 wins against a person with the same colour as you so if I was green and I beat someone that was green 10 times I move up but if you lose a game you get set back one , you don't have to get 10 wins in a row just as long as you get 10 at any time you move up.
Ricó Yeah I heard it's anything online , which is kinda dumb since I play casual just to chill out try some new characters and have fun not worrying about messing my rank up or whatever.
Addressing the hittimg buttons on wake up...I'd really like to see frame data cross the board. Similar to FAT for sfv. Some buttons challenge your opponent if he doesn't know true meaties. I'm still learning here myself with arc sys, and you're helping. Thanks again!
Another handy tip is if you use use transport when using spark.. if you hold the buttons your character wont instantly hit.. allowing you to start a combo.. it only works when sparking though. So you can get behind them and do a special or a combo without hitting them first allowing them to turn around.
Also if you want to get in without Super Dash, you can press forward and Super Dash on the ground and press down back, its akin to a mini wave dash and allows you to bait situations that might get you killed.
6:04 Thank You! 🙏 I was getting brutally murdered 🙌 because I couldn’t figure out how to get out of their combo chain. I was frantically button smashing to try and find a killer instinct combo breaker 🤣
My good sir I must thank you I just got this game a few days ago and I’ve made about most of these mistakes I will try my best to fix these to become a better player. 😁
Been absolutely livid as of late, wondering why I'm so shit at dbfz. Not a fighting games vet by any means, but I took interest in dbfz because I played marvel vs Capcom a lot when I was younger, and saw the similarities. This video pointed out a few things that will help me a TON. Subbed.
My issue with managing meter is that if youre playing against someone whose pressure is insane, you almost have to teleport and use one bar and do it frequently.
I saw this video and thought "These are gonna be mistakes I'll no doubt make when I get the game because I make them in every fighting game even when I try not to." Sure enough. I was correct. Thank you.
I usually do the exact inverse of the 5th mistake. I'm so used to conserving bars in other games that I fail to use it when it's the right opportunity for that. Things like pressing medium+heavy to intercept the opponent's recovery after a combo, and extend the punishment, or using a Heavy version of attack. I always hold out on doing these.
1. Using super dash too much 0:33
2. Ignoring blue life 1:16
3. Not utilizing assists 2:28
4. Forgetting to use dragon rush 3:17
5. Wasting super meter 4:00
6. Not taking advantage of sparking 4:53
7. Pressing Buttons on Wakeup 6:03

Subbed.
Thanks, I knew that me dashing too much is a bad thing and you supported my theory
Thanks for this I haven’t been doing well in the game and it’s nice to see and be told things I’m doing wrong
I just bought this game today amazing tips dude I'm happy I subscribed to you 😀
Good vid. Keep it up dude I've subbed
Honestly, I feel like sometimes meter burning for the fear factor and pressure potential is absolutely a valid option.
That last tip is going to save me a lot of frustration
Knew most of these but blocking on wake up is a rly good tip thank u
I didn't do any of these mistakes but still learned something new great video bruh
Hey thank you bro I pointed out 4 of my mistakes , now I know what to do to not make that mistake again
Bruh, I can't even switch due to how many to deaths I've had.
Great video man! Thanks for making it!
Nice. Straight to the point. Subbed.
Whenever I play my friend he always uses sparking to recover for one character and he always dash then I punish it
thanks for these, I've been learning a lot from your vids
My issue with managing meter is that if youre playing against someone whose pressure is insane, you almost have to teleport and use one bar and do it frequently.
I just randomly discovered you and your videos ! That's definitely a subscribe :)
Good video, thank you so much I just start playing this yesterday, I need some people to play with :)
I saw this video and thought "These are gonna be mistakes I'll no doubt make when I get the game because I make them in every fighting game even when I try not to." Sure enough. I was correct. Thank you.
Loving your content!
Thanks for the help, I've had fighterz for a few months now and I recognize alot of mistakes I'm making even though I dont play pfp
Last one is me, thanks ! I always thought 'Come on I'l mash light and interrupt the guy !"
Bro u deserve 1 million subscribers. I love your videos. Fighting game savant
Thanks for making this vid. Some stuff I knew and some stuff I didn’t
This was actually very helpful, thank you.
Almost clicked away before the last tip, in the end the most usefull for me! xD
