      THANK YOU......I was watching this and thinking this Vet is needing to make a payment on her house or something.........the Kong she pointed out is very very thin material....those aren't the brightest idea. The heavy duty Kongs are way better.
      The prepackaged flavored cow femur bones can be very dangerous. Full of bacteria, etc.
      The heavy duty Kongs, or RAW femur bones are way better. The Kongs can be filled with peanut butter, canned dog food, canned squirt cheese and even frozen to occupy a dog for hours.
      Once the dog has gotten all that marrow out of a RAW femur bone it can be stuffed with pate dog food, or the canned squirt cheese, or peanut butter without xylitol.
      Finding RAW cow femur bones can be a bit challenging in these days of boxed beef, but you can find a store that has a butcher. Sometimes they'll give em to you free, sometimes they sell them.
      Rawhide is bad. I dunno about Bully sticks.....
      I'm 60, and am now on my 10th dog.....a Basset puppy.....when I get her trained, I'll rescue 2 more Bassets or Beagles. Haven't killed one yet.

    As a vet myself, it is so sad how many people support this vet. I will never respect any vet that recommends rawhide and awful cheap brands like dingo. Not to mention she doesn’t even know the difference... she kept calling a RAWHIDE a nylabone 🤣 FYI rawhides are not edible. That is a lie. Not to mention she said “ some dogs like labradors “ as if breeds = chewing style.

    • @drlindsaybutzer
      @drlindsaybutzer 3 года назад +4

      As a vet yourself you should support other vets trying to help educate people. I’m sure you’ve made no mistakes in your carrier dr. Shay rose ? I did miscall a rawhide a Nyla bone ...I am sorry about that. I also said that Nyla bones shouldn’t be ingested... dogs do fully eat rawhide bones ? Also, using Labrador was an example ? Are they not the poster child of dogs that chew and swallow things and need FB sx? Please practice kindness towards your colleges.

    • @shayrose7705
      @shayrose7705 3 года назад +8

      @@drlindsaybutzer I will also educate when someone is wrong. No shade towards you as a person, sadly vet schools as very limited in what they teach and they lack immensely in nutrition. Rawhides are labeled as edible and labeled that they should be ate, but unfortunately the contents of a rawhide go against that “ edible “ guideline as they can not digest down and are not very safe for a dog to eat. :) I highly recommend if you have Facebook- join the group dog raw diet and nutrition! Even if you don’t foresee yourself recommending raw, it is an amazing educational group that discusses actual good kibble aswell as chews ( besides the unfortunate Purina, Royal canin, hills etc bad kibbles vets are brainwashed into supporting ). Very informative!

    Hey Doctor Lindsay i'm gonna give you a little tip about this.
    First i'm a marine biologist not a veterinarian but both professions go hand in hand in certain fields.
    This is not a negative comentary, but a positive one.
    Always choose bones from the local butcher or a trusted butcher.
    Natural bones are much better than industrialized ones.
    Bones of red meat, usually bovine, should make up the majority of recreational bones, such as ox bones, bison, elk or deer.
    Just avoid bird bones like chicken, turkey and rabbit even though it is not a bird, they are weak and brittle and can splinter when a dog is chewing them, which is one of the reasons why bird bones can be considered dangerous. Shattered bird bones can cause damage to a dog's mouth, throat and lining of the digestive system.
    With that just keep with the good work and dont care about mean comentaries.

Raw uncooked bones are the best for any dog. Good for their teeth and for their health. To me those nylon bones are no no too. I've seen dogs who are able to break apart those nylon bones so then they ingest them. Our dogs are carnivores. Eating raw bones is the most beneficial and natural for them and not to mention it's more affordable.

      Big Trips Keepin it real. You are clearly keepin it real smart. The title here is surely misleading. Only one of these ''bones'' is actually a bone, and that's the one she describes as a possible part of a cattle leg bone, ''but can chip your dogs teeth.'' Many of those''bones'' she showed, (at least several years ago) had a warning on the back of the package which read : ''warning, this product can cause intestinal blockage, and possible death, do not leave your pet unattended when feeding them this product''. You can add a product sold as good for dogs teeth, I'll call it G_ _ e _ _ _ s, it too had (again, several years ago) that same microscopically printed warning.Truthfully it took a 200 zoom camera lens to read it, but as long as it's printed on the wrapping the company is not liable for damage / death to your pet. I'd made the big mistake of trusting a ''true animal guy'' whom I'd seen on TV from time to time over the years. He was always surrounded by every pet you could think of, all uncaged and getting along with one another. He mentioned this chew product, as completely safe and great for keeping your dogs teeth free from tartar build up, so I bought some. My dog is a very, I guess you could say, slow / careful eater, doesn't quickly gobble food/ treats. The very first G _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I gave her I could tell she was in serious distress, rushed her to the vet where she was saved following a very difficult surgery. She'd had an intestinal blockage, which I knew she had the very moment she'd gotten it, trust me, you'd know..the back arched, hind legs butted up to her chin, and a sound I pray you'll never hear coming from your dog. I'm sure you won't have this problem as your statement verifies , you've got some smarts. I do too...now. I guess you get my opinion on ALL of these products.
