I really enjoy when Lex starts couch-dancing and smiling when she likes a song. She's like a real-life Muppet and I mean that in the most positive, adorable and happy way!
I've never heard someone called a Muppet as a compliment, but I like it. I was thinking that she dances like a preschooler, which I suppose isn't usually a compliment, either. I love it. Hopefully, she never changes.
His cover of their song "Forever" is also really good. I'm NOT saying better than the original - before anyone attacks me - but I like both versions quite a bit. John's version is more romantic and hopeful, where the Beach Boys version is a lot darker and moody. I love them both for different reasons.
Lex just allowed me to realize something cool. Check this out: I'd previously noted that Brad found it odd that the songs on one album could have such different feels, because he was used to buying songs one at a time and forming playlists for certain moods or activities. Back in the day, people made cassette work-out tapes too. But when it came to a playlist that suited the weather, or the day's cultural zeitgeist, it was the Disc Jockeys on radio that were creating our mood playlists. And in any given hour, they would touch on each type of state of mind, so that no matter which state you were in, there would eventually be some songs that 'spoke to you.' Playlists are fine and better suited to some situations. But the unexpected nature of the radio still holds a lot of charm. Life today lacks a sense of the unexpected--of joyful discovery. Having a DJ surprise us by plugging into us through some song we've never heard before, still feels like a really meaningful type of serendipity that would be impossible to create via an intentional playlist.
I get what you're saying I have few playlists and it's mostly my local cultural music soca, calypso, reggae, dancehall. But the thousands of songs on my phone I always have them play randomly. The one thing I don't like about RUclips is that they attempt to play over what you like and rarely introduce new songs to you, which is why I enjoy these reaction videos you never know what you're going to get
Oh, yeah. Radio got broken somehow in the last 20 years. It used to be the format to catch something you'd never listen to otherwise and be pleasantly surprised. Now it plays stuff you've already heard 10K times or stuff you'd never listen to for a damn good reason--i.e. it's boring, whiny, commercial pap designed to appeal to nitwits. It's why I listen to Pandora instead of radio now. It's why I'm watching reaction videos. Seeing a fresh reaction to a song can make it new again. In summary, you are correct and I heartily agree with the views espoused.
Your comment deserves more likes! Radio is and was awesome. You're right, there's a magic in the synchronicity of tuning in to hear the right song at the right time without planning it. I hardly ever listen to music anymore because I have to actively choose what to listen to on a song by song basis - it's tiresome. Playlists are almost always just the most popular hits, or quickly become the same thing repeated over and over.
Waiting for a song you like to be played on the radio was kinda tricky. We had three rock stations and flipping between them to listen to the song that you like the best or sometimes the one you hated the least. The worst feeling was to flip it to the station just to hear your favorite song just ending. 😩
First time I saw my wife this song was playing in the background. 1990 at a friend’s BBQ. Love at first sight. That same day I told her I was going to marry her. She was engaged and said I was crazy. Been married for over 30 wonderful years.
Kokomo was their last song to hit number 1, two decades after most of their success in the 60's. It's a catch tune but their early stuff is much better.
@@Rage_Harder_Then_Relax Great argument. Most would agree Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums ever made. Kokomo doesn't even belong in the same conversation.
Of course, the joke is that while Kokomo SOUNDS like a wonderful tropical beach vacation site, it's actually a town in the middle of Indiana, population about 60,000.
The bigger joke is that AFTER the song came out, an island in the Sandals Royal Caribbean vacation resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica was re-named Kokomo Island.
So, I live in Kokomo, IN. The funny part is that if we drop the capitalization due to the title, the song is kokomo, not Kokomo. A word that means out in the sticks, alone, or deserted, the perfect place for a lovers' tryst.
@@brandonsopinion8904 That's interesting. I first heard the word kokomo on Sandy by Bruce Springsteen and wondered if it was a beach area near New York but found it was also mentioned in Brown-eyed Handsome Man by Chuck Berry.
You definitely need to explore more Beach boys. Brian Wilson is a musical genius and his influence on music cannot be ignored. May I suggest the song God only knows by them
Lex should totally know this song from that episode of Full House where DJ wins tickets to The Beach Boys! Btw, that was “Uncle Jessie” in the pink tanktop playing the bongos in the video!
It's amazing how many remarkable songs the Beach Boys composed, espcecially in the 60's and 70's. But I could not agerre more with Lex, this is by far my favourite Beach Boys song and that sure takes some doing when you consider all of those wonderful songs that came before it!
I remember this song, and the movie it came from (Cocktail), very well. The timing was perfect, since I had just graduated high school a month or so earlier.
The fact that Lex didn't notice that "Uncle Jesse" from Full House (John Stamos) is playing the percussion in the video kills me. John Stamos toured with The Beach Boys for several years in the eighties.
This is 80's Beach Boys. It was so awesome to get a hit from them so long after their last one. The scenes are from the movie COCKTAIL. A cute movie with Tom Cruise and Elisabeth Shue. Also, that is John Stamos playing the drums in this video. He has been an actor on so many shows and is still adorable almost 30 years later.
Actually they only had number 1 hits in 2 decades, the 60s and 80s. I think the only artist to do that in 5 decades was Cher and now maybe Madonna if you count the new dance charts.
I really like that it takes you only 8 seconds to get down to business. I watch a lot of another reactor couple and they spend the first 45 seconds of every video introducing themselves and their channel and asking people to subscribe and so on. It's a lot to skip past every time. It's so refreshing that I don't have to do that with you two.
That other couple you’re referring to - if it’s who I think - LOVE every song. They have no perspective or thoughts. I like Brad and Lex because when they don’t like a song, they say so. I don’t get the sense they’re faking it.
This song is a vibe just like every Jimmy Buffett song is a similar vibe. Not especially imaginative musically, but plays to all the popular imagery and sentiments.

My little papillon was named cocoa and my grandpa used to call him Kokomo Indiana Jones lol. I played this song for my dog all the time and he would bark like crazy. Either he loved it or he hated it one of the two...
I’m telling you, if you go on any beach vacation and are laying in the sand, play this song and you will have a huge smile on your face the whole time. It is the best!
From the classic movie "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise. Back when the song for a movie was just as big a deal as the film. It'd be cool if you did movie reactions too.

Papa John Phillips, from the Mamas and Papas, wrote this song. I heard him on the Howard Stern Show, play this on a guitar. It didn’t sound like much then and Howard was goofing on him thinking he was crazy… Howard admitted he was wrong later.
From the movie Cocktail (one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies). Lex, it’s my favorite Beach Boys Song too! Brad, I listen to this anytime, anywhere. Don’t need a special occasion/time to listen to it.

I fell in love with the Beach Boys then, but forgot about them again until I was 18 and listening to and exploring music with college buddies. This is one of my favorites too. I grew up listening to the Beach Boys, and probably my favorite is the song "Darlin'". Kokomo was released in 1988, and the first time I heard it, I was listening to the radio in my car. I pulled over and turned it up. Darlin' was released in 1967, so the Beach Boys had matured in their sound. Take a listen to Darlin'. I really enjoy it. I'm glad that you reviewed Kokomo. John Stamos (uncle Jesse on Full House) was on the drums. He's very close to the Beach Boys and they guest starred on the show too
That's what I thought but wasn't sure
This was the first time I ever noticed that.
I saw them in concert in 1987 and John was touring with them at that time. I think that is when this song came out.

He’s in the band, he plays drums and guitar sometimes when they tour
There is no sound like the Beach Boys. It captures you instantly and transports you to a better place than you were just at a minute before.

The song came out with the movie Cocktail w/ Tom Cruise. It was played soooo much on the radio back in the 80s. Takes me back to childhood
