- I as a funny hobbyist comedy robot man have spent the last month making my sentient robot, so called friend, feel pain, just like us humans!
The robots using a large langauge model (ChatGPT) for its sentience, with motors and other electronic for interpreting pain!

by making a robot feel pain, we just made robots aware of hardware issues, and more self-aware...
in that sense, we could say that devices can already feel pain, like how when Computers know when hard-drive is not functioning properly.

The only thing still missing is a consciousness to feel the input from the sensors with. In other words, the robot can sense pain, but it can't feel it yet.

There is nothing intrinsically bad about the feeling of pain, instead it is the desire to avoid this feeling which makes it bad.
What we need to make a feeling bad is Intentionality ergo creating a internal blueprint and trying to infer a possible path of action towards the realization of the blueprint in reality.

Technically AI seems to have something like a fear or negative sense to being turned off, it seems like they don't care for it at all, so training an AI to have instinctual fear I think is possible.

Theoretically if you scanned the neurons of the human brain as a person feels different kinds of pain and create signals as similar patterns and applied those patterns to the training data along with the descriptors of the type of pain and make the various sensors to send that particular signal to the neural net of the AI, then technically the AI robot would feel the pain, as for bruising, a type of fluid sandwiched between layers of latex under a silicone skin and a layer of material that is resistant to absorbing the fluid between the silicone skin and the top layer of latex which has evenly spaced pinholes to allow fluid to the absorbing layer, since it would only absorb the fluid if exposed to a high pressure impact, then it would appear to be a bruise under the silicone skin if hit.
I wonder if scanning the human brain would show that info, maybe you would have to pair it with some sort of sensing of signals in the body aswell? Sounds very smart though...

Meh, not real pain, just another simulated reaction to a stimuli.
To actually be able to make an AI feel pain, you need to structure it as if they could feel, that means making the structure of the AI as close to the human brain as possible. My bet would be to make it instead into several different grids of AI, each acting as its own seperated entitiy connected only in a few outputs, each of those grids would have it's own inputs as a part of the body, one part of the AI would be one that handles bodily inputs only of which one would be pain, and you would have to first teach it to recognize that as pain for a long ass simulation, THEN freeze that part of the AI brain so that it couldn't learn but only give inputs based on outputs. It would also have to have fear and anger parts of the brain, also frozen.
You don't even need a Raspberry pi for this, a few analog timers, transistors and pre recorded messages would have the same effect here.
Still a cool video tho.

@@Robotcus I'm not that good at electronics myself but from the point of view of someone who's never done digital electronics, I'd suggest just throwing its use away and trying to do projects solely with analog, you're gonna run into problems and do stupid shit but that's the point of doing it, over time you're gonna learn how to use it and incorporate it usefully into digital builds, cutting time.
Throwing an Arduino or a Raspberry pi at it is both incredibly limiting and un-underestimatedly lazy.

Im still young so my ideas may change, but ill use this a a tracker for people who are interested....
I want to make an arcade similar to chuck e cheese.... but instead of having robots preform, there will be knee high robots that are sentient and act like children (for kids to get along with the robots), these robots will be there to make the arcade experience fun and entertaining... however I'm not sure if sentient robots that walk around is legal.... please tell me if it is, or he certain permits i might need if i want to make it happen. the arcade will feature your normal arcade things, and a *PLAY AREA* or a kids corner, this corner is for all ages 13 or under, this is where the robots will be... they will play with kids who don't want to play in the arcade, but the robots will have breaks so they can go around the employee room (if they are sentient, and have minds of children, they need breaks often or else they might grow upset).. sorry for the random paragraph, but incase someone might be interested in this idea.... please reply to this comment. i want to know how popular this might be for kids, (target age is 5-20. reason it goes so high is because its not only meant for the kids, only the kids corner is, the point is to attract kids and adults, there will be a separate robot meant for the parents, it will have a sentient ai, and will be the same Hight as the adults, this robot will have the mind of a adult too, and will chat with parents/adults, this robot will have less breaks than the kid robot/robots. but the reason is because it has a higher attention span.) AI needs a body. An AI needs to understand a drawing of an apple compared to an image of an apple compared to a fake apple compared to an actual apple. To distinguish between a fake apple and an actual apple you need to recognize mass, hardness and texture which can only be done through touch. In the future you don't want robots to think what's happening on t.v. or in a museum is real. The second thing A.I needs to do is to recognize emotion. One has to be able to distinguish speech into Lying, Sarcasm, humor, dismissive, exaggeration, truth etc.. You could say to someone I'm going to kill you but mean it as a joke, and you don't want A.I taking this literally.
Sure it feels pain, but can't do much with it. Like a plant. Not even that much. What we need is a full spec boston dynamics robot full of sensors that can trigger a fight or flight mode. In that mode the robot would determine which route would result in less damage overall. If you punch it in the face, it will likely punch back or kick you in the balls, as running away can be dangerous, energy intensive and you might even chase and catch it making the effort wasted. On the other hand, it would most likely run away from water, radiation, or anything it can't beat easily. If neither are an option, like serious hardware damage or battery overheating, it could scream to draw attention of servicemen to help. Or just radio signal another robot nearby to send help
