I think egg tempera is one of the most under-appreciated mediums. Your method is the best and easiest I have seen. Thanks! BTW, I sometimes paint egg tempera on tempera ground. I basically prepare the wood with glue size, then scumble a thin layer of egg tempera white (egg plus pigment which is actually a mix of titanium and marble dust). Let it dry for a while then paint my painting over this.
Nice! Thank you so much!

Ευχαριστώ πολύ! Τώρα μαθαίνω εικονογραφία και ανακαλύπτω καταπληκτικά πράγματα!
Thank you for the video. My hesitation with egg tempera is that I find it wasteful. At the end it feels wrong to throw away my pigment and egg yolk mixes. Any recommendations? I guess I just have to really plan and make very small mixes so I don't have a lot leftover. It may be difficult since what I would like to achieve is realism. Again, thanks so much for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Ευχαριστώ πολύ για όλες αυτές τις χρήσιμες πληροφορίες. 😊❤😊

Grazie~Thank You~Bellissimo!
excellent, thanks
Thank you!
Thank you for the video! This is one of my favorite mediums.. I love the naturally luminous quality it has. Now I'm curious, how do you stop bugs from eating the paint while it's curing? That was the one problem I had.. I would let it dry before varnishing and come back a day or two later to find tiny little grooves in the paint layer where it had been eaten away.
Pietro Annigoni too
Thanks for sharing this:) Do you add some extra water later or you just mix pigments with this mixture of egg with same amount of water and some dropsmof vinegar?
Thank you for this video! I am an amateur iconographer and was taught to use holy water and vinegar. What do you think?
Do you ever ,in one painting use casein ,with certain pigments like azure to seperate from egg ?
Is there a big difference between egg tempera and gouache in the way it behaves ?
Thanks
Thank you so much!
Heloo! Just subscribed to your wonderful channel. Unable to source rabbit glue where I live or online....kindly advice the alternative...
Have you tried aquabord/clipboard?
Please be careful with dry pigment powder, especially cadmium and heavy metals. Wear mask and work in ventilated area when you use powered pigments.
Hello maestro! Thanks for video! I like to try this midium is sennelier dry pigment is good? Thanks
Hi! Yes I think they might be good
Thank you so much! What type of vinegar do you recommend?
Grape vinegar
Thank you so much! Why is acrylic gesso not suitable for egg tempera?
In my experience, it beads up while painting and flecks off easily. It adheres to hide glue gesso much better.
Thanks you! What numbers brushs you use?
Small kolinsky usually. Like no 0 1 and 2
Can you use any acrylic varnish on egg tempera? I am trying to find a egg tempera varnish in Canada
Yes I use a varnish for acrylics and works fine
sir what si the main ingredients of tempera?
How to protect egg tempera paintings. I have white patches on the surface of the painting.
Should I varnish? What kind of varnish?
I use an acrylic varnish
@@PaintingtheLight if an acrylic varnish will work, then why can't an acrylic gesso?
@@Alucard33592 Exactly! Why not just use acrylic all the way, and paint the whole thing? Plastic never dies, right? Linseed oil was one of the traditional sealants for icons. Of course, it means an icon is drying for up to one year after the painting job is finished, 6 months for tempera + pigment to fully cure, followed by 6 months of oil to be fully cured. In today's culture, it's ages and no one wants to wait 5 minutes. Do you want something truly sacred? Learn to wait and don't use plastic, I mean acrylic.
Hi Antonis. I've been following your work for a many months and I think it's a wonderful contribution to the profession of painting. I have seen various materials tested and my question is if you have experimented with enamel paint, zománcfesték ,or esmalte sintético called here in Argentina, is used for metal, wood .. greetings and my admiration for your work, thank you!
Andres thank you so much!
What is that metal stick for? I’m not an art major so idk.
Serve a poggiare la mano senza sporcare il dipinto
Is it difficult to get dry pigment powder? is it costly?
Not very difficult. Probably amazon
The cost of the pigment varies, depending on the pigment. Some are very inexpensive like earth colors.
