Many thanks. Your method of mixing pigments with the brush has made working with powder pigment (and egg tempera) much more fun. I used to try to grind everything first. It took hours and I gave up, and went back to my tube water colors or oils.

really helpful video, thank you very much! I love your work, both in iconography and other paintings! I have the dilemma of whether should I start iconography or painting lessons. Do you think that iconography will help me paint other themes too, outside of the Byzantine tradition?

Thanks a lot, your tutorials are REALLY helpful. I've got some questions for you. 1) In order to be closer to the old masters, can this blending technique be used also with gouache on paper? 2) When one layer is painted, must it be dry in order to paint another layer or can we paint as soon as we have the right tone ready? 3) I imagine that the blending lines must follow the shape they will cover, am I right?

Depending on the effect and blending type you want to achieve you apply color on wet, or dry under layer. For traditional iconography you paint on dry.

My teacher advised me once to practice making fine lines every day - but did I do it! I am retired and paint for fun, but anyway! My question is if I become a “patron” will there be more videos available than I can find now? I am danish and think I understand that as patron I pay a little amount every month, am I right?

I’m watching closely…do you not add water to pigment as you prepare your paint??? Only dip your brush in the dry pigment and add the egg mixture….no extra water??/

It's just a tutorial not everything has to be about colored people
