@@trinitron384 It was indeed filmed for TV, for the Dutch show called '2 Meter Sessies', hosted by Jan-Douwe Kroeske, who was that tall. It was broadcast from 1987 to 2012 on radio and on TV for a bit shorter. If you search for it, you might be able to find some more. Sepultura to Soul Coughing, they are all up there. Check it out, the host may be a bit awkward every now and then, but they are great quality.
@@Dylan90210 I always thought the pickups in jazz masters were p90’s too. But when I got one for myself I found out on the internet that they are actually wide single coil pickups, but they handle fuzz amazingly
There's something very unusual about the keyboard riff in this song. You can hear how there are two notes one octave apart for each key he plays. One of the notes is slightly delayed so you hear them one after the other. The really cool thing is that it is the SECOND note which is in time with the rest of the band, so the keyboard player has to play each note slightly before the beat by just the right amount. That takes some skill!
Insane that this is 26 years old, the music sounds fresh as ever and the band themselves could be transported to current day and I wouldn’t think anything different.
Videos like this are why I'm glad RUclips exists, given its flaws. Younger generations can be recommended this timeless classic which would otherwise be lost to history.
That groove shift from 4/4 time to 3/4 time during the bridge at 1:40 is just heavenly. The keyboard riff contains the same notes, it's just played like a waltz during that section while the bass goes up to D. It somehow still feels natural and fits the song but creates tension before returning to that 4/4 groove. The song would have been great without that time signature shift, but that bridge elevates it to brilliance.
It’s 2023, super late to the party. Heard them every once in a while but just today listening to their stuff non stop and I can say I’m happy to be a new fan ❤️
They were way ahead of the time. If they would have came out around 2012 when front bottoms and similar bands were blowing up. Oh yeah. They would be huge. Real shame.
soundtrack for my life, I listen to this track, or it's live versions, or its covers at least weekly. I never will get sick of it. So many memories tied to it.
I remember seeing them live at Lowlands '98. The singer seemed like he wasn't all that comfortable being on stage, basically hiding behind his keyboards. Other than that, I mostly remember them playing this song, the only one that I had heard before (thank you, Kink FM).
Saw them live on December of 2000 in Barcelona with Wayne Coyne in the audience, who played the day before with The Flaming Lips. Great times for new psychedelia.
28 Days later It's definitely what introduced me to them which is funny because of how good that soundtrack was. Granddaddy is special though maybe it's just this song, but it really makes my feel like everything will be okay no matter when I listen to it
Alternative lyrics: I AM, NOT YOUR FATHER, I'M YOUR DADDY, YOUR GRANDADDY. I AM. NOT YOUR FATHER, I'M YOUR DADDY, YOUR GRANDADDY. I AM, NOT YOUR FATHER, I'M YOUR DADDY, YOUR GRANDADDY. I AM. NOT YOUR FATHER, I'M YOUR DADDY, YOUR GRANDADDY.
Big muff op amp or other big muffs (smashing pumpkins siamese dream). A mesa boogie mark amp could get that tone too (weezer blue album). For pickups p90 or any hot single coil/humbucker
this is some amazing quality for 1997
right
It is!
especially if it was filmed on tape wtf
@@caivsivlivs This was probably filmed on some kind of broadcast DV tape, so yeah the quality is definitely really good for tape.

Oh yeah. Grandaddy is one of my favorite band and i agree with u. Totally.
28 days later. 2023
Steady on
He looked so proud of his pianist at the end aw
Yeah, that was so cute.
I wish anyone looked at me the way Jason Lytle looks at his pianist.
That was beautiful
The pianist looks at Jason Lytle romantic-like too 0:51
Feels rushed
that guitar tone though
That Big Muff sound
Big muff with p90 pickups

some friends and i are working on a cover, and i too noticed this and it seemed so cool, band was so ahead of its time.

I was just listening to PUP's cover of this and had to come back to the original too. About as perfect a song as can be.
2 more years and it’s gonna be “28 Years Later”
28 years later coming next year, im glad it reminded me of this classic
28 Days Later Baby!

I did not expect him to look like that tbh
I thought he'd look like Weezer's Rivers Cuomo.

Thank you so much for this upload ! This band is so underrated !
This songs message still hits hard in the social media era….
It’s like a time capsule super cool!
All focus, all groove, and still most excellent to this day. Grandaddy is good for whatever together.
Amazing song by such an amazing artist

Saw em last night in Manchester. Powerful stuff, Lytle has had enough time now to master his on stage craft, and it certainly pays..
Kind of a sad song and band so it’s hard to evoke sadness and be comfortable with the crowd simultaneously. JMO
makes me miss the 90s
