  • My goal is to have a big homegrown salad by Easter which comes early this year on March 31. Cool season crops like lettuce, spinach, arugula and radishes can take cool soil, matter of fact they prefer it. But at just 33 degrees F, my raised beds are just a little too cold.
Forty-five degrees would be perfect so to make that happen, I'm covering my beds with plastic to capture the sun and warm things up. I'll also be adding low tunnels in a few weeks which will add another layer of protection and warmth. I'm giving it four weeks under cover before the first lettuce seedlings go in. I can't wait!

Good job, girl 🙌 I've brought a large growing arrangement into my garage before and covered in that black plastic. I was pleasantly surprised how much it kept growing under there! 🤞to salad for Easter 🤞
Happy Valentines Day ❤ if don't hear from you!

Thanks Gina! Sorry for the delayed response. My salad is going to be a little delayed. Looks like it needs a few more weeks then I'll have salad for an army!

Well, it's going to be a few weeks later than I had hoped. Not enough to feed the whole Easter gathering.

I just planted a bunch of seeds outside in NEB. We'll see. Thanks for ideas. A weird version of winter sowing. I have some windows and clear plastic I am putting over it.

Your warmer than we are in IL. I know, is where my family lives, their entire lives. Good luck on your seeds!
