As an Aussie, to me the Royal Coronation is such an exciting event and all about pomp and ceremony and was just so disappointed that Coronation robes were not required to be worn by Dukes, etc. To me it would most certainly would have added that extra sparkle to the whole event, with everyone wearing suits, nobody stood out to the viewers. Such a shame.

As an American, I would have liked to see the peerage coronation robes and a bit more sparkle (tiaras). I understand why it didn’t happen, but I had a discussion with a Canadian friend and we both thought that all around the coronation was very well done.
Hopefully, some tiered seating at the next coronation and a few more peers as an homage to tradition will be in order. Not anll the peers, of course, but a smattering.
But our minor quibbles didn’t detract from the splendor of the occasion.

Fellow Australian 🇦🇺 here. I was in England May 6th last year but not in London. Watched it on the telly in the Mawes Hotel in Cornwall. I was glued to the screen! I thought it magnificent & loved all the historical inclusions.

Presumably Charles wanted to keep his coronation financially low, as the economic situation in the UK was not at its best.
It's a shame because while other countries spend millions on election campaigns and lifelong bonuses for former presidents, the British haven't had to pay for a coronation for 70 years

As an Aussie, the history and traditions it brings is hard to fathom.

OH! One of the BEST for many reasons - the views, YOUR honest enjoyment of the history attached to the place and pieces ... on and on I could go. I would LOVE to have a "special" series of you at a place like this for one or two weeks - going through the archives and showing the details of the tapestries and beyond! KEEP GOING JULIE! You are spectacular in a lasting and cherished, honest way! 🥰

I had to look it up, because for the life of me, I could not imagine what a 'sledging,' accident might have been...
Princess Louise was injured in a SLEIGHING accident (what we would today call 'sledding,') in the winter of early 1880 in Ottawa, Canada. The reason she was self-conscious of her ear was because in the accident, her earring had gotten caught somehow (on something), and actually ripped her earlobe in two.
I'm not sure if the dutchess knows about a particular pronunciation that I am not aware of, or what the case is, but just in case anyone else was wondering, when they say 'sledging,' accident, they're talking about what we call sledding (riding on a wooden sled down a snow covered hill). It could be that the dutchess read about this incident in a book, and not being familiar with the pastime, she saw 'sleighing,' and simply mispronounced it.
I'm not here to try and do a 'gotcha' on the dutchess, I just wanted to provide some more information for anyone else who might have been curious. I wish the dutchess and duke all the best, and I very much hope to visit them in their castle someday.

Interesting video. I am sad, as w Canadian, that no one mentioned the incredibly important links to Canada: In 1878, Lorne was appointed Governor General of Canada a post he held from 1878-1884. Louise was viceregal consort, starting a lasting interest in Canada. Her names were used to name many features in Canada, including Lake Louise and the province of Alberta. Cheers
