#1 - Gather Your “Making Materials”
Your first step is being sure you have everything you need to MAKE music as a rapper, what we call “making materials”.
Before you even start writing rap regularly, you should already be VERY clear on what tools you’re going to use to write raps over and over again…
What Are You Going To Write With?
You’ll need to determine the easiest writing “workflow” for yourself as a rapper.
Take 3-5 Seconds To Decide Your Writing Format
…Once you’ve done that, it’s time to decide on your recording materials.
Where Are You Going To Record Your Raps?
The second step is to decide where you are going to record your raps regularly.
Home Studio
Now, if you are going to record from home and basically teach yourself how to record…
The easiest and cheapest way to do this is:
Buy a USB mic
This can be as cheap as $30-$50 and it plugs right into your computer
Record In A Quiet Room
That can be a simple as finding the smallest room in your house, even a closet, and trying to have the floors be carpeted or having a rug on them so there isn’t a lot of “ambient” noise to mess up the vocal…
Use Free Recording Software
Audacity is the simplest and easiest to use free software to record. You can alternatively just use “Fruity Loops” trial addition, which is an industry standard level recording software, however you won’t be able to save your work if you use Fruity Loops free trial, so you’ll have to put out whatever you do in one sitting.
Take 3-5 Seconds To Decide Where You’re Going To Record Your Music
Who Is Going To Mix Your Music?
But of course if you plan to record at a studio yourself, then your mixing duties and mic set-up should be handled by a professional.
#2 - Create Your “Song Schedule”
A “song schedule” is a catchy phrase we’ve created to describe planning out how often you’re actually going to create new songs.
It’s important to think in terms of “songs” and not just raps because if you actually want to become a real rapper and not just do little rhymes to impress your friends… you’ll need to know how to craft songs and not just “bars”.
Take 3-5 seconds to write down how many songs you’ll write per week.
#3 - Get A “Promotion Plan”
A promotion plan is (yet again) another catchy phrase to make it easy to remember that you need to have a plan on how you’re going to promote your music once it’s made and recorded.

Just a little correction on FL free trial. You can save your work, however you can't re-open it until you purchase any of the licenses.
Good points drew always giving us what we need to know about this music business but I disagree about the mic tho it doesn’t matter if the mic cheap or expensive if you don’t know what to do with it not going to get your preferred results. As a sound engineer I know that you need to find one with good frequency respond. So don’t of a mic as cheap or expensive think can it get the job I want done.
