In my Google Pixel 8 Pro review, I reveal my full thoughts on Google’s latest flagship smartphone. What’s the new camera system like? Are the AI features gimmicky or genuinely useful? Is it better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max? I answer everything in this video! Oh, and this entire video is shot (pretty much) on the Pixel 8 Pro!

What AI feature do you want to see next on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro?
I'd like to be able to send a message to people in specific apps like Microsoft Teams and basic things like turning TVs on and off in my house with some form of consistency and not having to touch the phone. Google Assistant has seemed to have gotten worse over the years so if small day to day tasks are easier I feel this would set it apart if they can use the brains of Bard for simple things.
I have the Pro and no new AI is needed what is needed is to put the Pro Features into the smaller sized phone. Its way too heavy and large. Need a purse to carry it and Im not a women.
Im on the fench on returning it to the bloat. Funny its battery does not last any longer than the non pro. I just like the zoom camera. The watch lasted me 14 hours not 24. Kind of half backed for the price.
see if you can get it casting to work on non google device such as the firestick or roku. Good luck
As I'm watching this review on my new Pixel 8 Pro Bay Blue... The audio from the speakers is incredible. Very loud as well, wasn't expecting that
Thanks, not many reporting on sound quality. Really important to me..techspurt did comment though
I found the audio to be worse than my Pixel 3, its tinny sounding and not as loud.
@@Physics072 I have the pixel 3, never upgraded to the 4. That speaker can't even compare to the 8
I watched Dave2d and MKBHD yesterday, and while I love their reviews, I found yours to be much more comprehensive.
Wow. Thank you!
Call Screen is such an underrated feature. I use both Pixel and iPhone and I miss this feature so much when I'm using my iphone. No spam or scam calls make it to me when I'm using my Pixel. It gets screened in the background. Meanwhile on my iphone I've been getting so many scam/spam calls.
Ngl since they brought that feature to pixel, I honestly can't remember the last time I've had a spam call
Another feature i love. If u seen pixel 8 event they showed how it sounds in the background when call screen is happening 🤯 and how it lets calls get to u if u need to hear it. Crazy
One of the best features out there
😎🎯
The temp sensor is there to measure the temp of your friends' iPhones when they're overheating.
Mine arrived yesterday, 512gb in obsidian. Can’t wait to try it out but also wary of moving from iOS to Android. This is, however, in my opinion, the iPhone of the android world.
I agree. Enjoy!
Agreed
mine arrived today bay blue definately love it it's so cool❤
I agree
Let me know what you think of the switch! I’m considering the same thing. I’m really interested in switching it up and trying it out.
100% agree. 14 Pro Max is begrudginly my daily driver as my family uses all of the iThings. I'm leaving tomorrow for Vermont and I started a 2nd line just so I can carry my Pixel 7 Pro. Pixel camera is just the best and I'm surprised how unimpressed I am with the iPhone camera.
Great video! Will you also make a video about the regular pixel 8? I think that i will go for that phone to upgrade from the pixel 4a
8:47 OMG.. that’s astounding how the Pixel 8 can literally reduce background noise during video recording. I wonder if the same feature available in Pixel 7 Pro. Otherwise, I need to consider upgrading my Pixel 😂
Yeah i think that's 8pro exclusive getting some other features in future feature drop around December i think.
Sent from Pixel 6 Pro
Willing to bet someone will figure out how to port it to other devices.
@@lelosayz08 wow you are rocking Pixel 6 Pro? Then time to upgrade to 8 Pro. Let see if Google back their promise about 7 years software update.
@@sglatitude I'm extremely happy with my 6 Pro, especially since stable 14 dropped. The 7 years of updates is nice, but no one on earth will keep a phone for 7 years lol. Tech updates will make a phone obsolete in 2\3 years tops. Let's see what feature drops i get in December
@@marcochavane3124Sooner the better. It is very very useful.
Literally pacing downstairs waiting for mine to show up in a bit and I cannot wait for it. Thanks for this review. I live in Atlanta and it's noisy like London can be so it's great to see the noise reduction feature works that well.
Lol same. Watching out for my FedEx guy 👀👀
@@therealzuluking me too!! Haha!
Update. I have it now. Typing on it as we speak and I love it so far...we'll see how this goes lol.

Ive been a apple usee since the first iphone (i was 21) i went and pre rodered the iohone 15 pro been using it but just receved me pixel 8 pro yssterxay and my pixel watch 2 and im in love. So far im loving everything about the pixel. So my iphone and apple watch are back in the box. :). Great review!
Insightful video! Any comments or first impressions on battery life compared to the 7 pro?
Looking forward to the video footage, when it comes out.
@MarkEllisReviews Can’t wait to get hold of my 128GB Bay… my two Border Terriers will be photographed even more… ace to see Eddie in the video!
13:29 so im watching a review and see a photo that i thought was taken in my house. We have the same Dog,sofa and rug... You have great taste 😂
Got this yesterday as an upgrade from my 6 pro. Enjoying it so far. Poor 6 pro though, the back was cracked but i didnt realize it because i had a case on the entire time. No clue how long it had been like that
Got mine today. Excited.
As an iPhone user since v1 and forever, I love the Pixels. I went to the store yesterday just to compare them to my 15P. Fantastic fit and finish. I hope it succeeds. This whole Apple vs Android debate is tiresome. Get whatever phone you want. Use whatever OS you want. They make each other better. However, I do find the Pixel vs. other Android devices interesting given the same OS.
I agree in all respects.
I'm the same but the other way around. I can't leave the pixel world but love Apple products. I see iPhone as the best phone but Pixel is a computer bro.
That video shot on the phone looks as good as your normal setup. It’s shockingly good
I picked up mine this morning. So far very happy with it and I moved from the 23 ultra. Camera seems great so far and no overheating. Enjoying the flat screen and display
That is a downgrade
Downgrade and soon S24U will be out
How does the battery life compare?
I'm a 23 Ultra owner.. And concerned about the Pixel pro speakers.. Do they compare?

7:27 wtf? The guy in the bar entryway, walking out, has been generated from scratch? Probably zoomed in it breaks due to artifacts, but zoomed out this looks spooky.
Well im stunned, have Mine since yesterday and am blown away, and thats comin from a pixel 7 pro owner who thought its gonna be a small update
Got mine yesterday on the 11th of October. Wasn't going to buy one because I had the Pixel 7, but my Wife bought it for me. I am so happy she did, it's a lovely phone so far. Enjoyed every minute with it. I keep picking it up absent mindedly even though I have no idea what I am going to do with it at the time. It's such a joy so far. I really hope it continues and even gets better with feature drops.
Congrats on the awesome phone and even more awesome Wife.
Questions for ya. Can you take 48mpx shots on the ultrawide ? Can you do 60fps on the ultrawide? I use my phone as a back up GoPro so I want a good upgrade that has a great ultrawide camera.
Very happy with the pixel 8 pro. The flat screen is probably the biggest improvement I noticed over the spazo pixel 7 pros curved edges.
Great review, please could you tell me if it has clone apps, so you can have 2 Facebook apps for example
Am I the only one that thinks the wind noise is good because it brings you back to the moment that you recorded it?
Even the chattering of people!
That’s why it’s nice to have the choice to leave it in!
I agree ambient background noise adds life to a videos audio as long as it doesn’t overpower the voice of the vlogger 👍
Solid review!
Glad you liked it!
Need some help, how do you transfer data from apple to android now before on the setup screen when you plugged in the cable it would scan and then transfer data now the iPhone 15 just starts charging ? I have tried different cables etc
What is the iPad case you're using at 2:38?
Trading my iPhone 14 Pro Max for a Pixel 8 Pro 🎉
Have you done it? I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and am considering changing?
I love mine and if you use during day or night 50mp max resolution even at 10x zoom it is fantastic detail. At 50mp resolution it doesn't even affect dynamic range either
the temperature sensor is really an oddball. If this was back in 2020, this add on wouldn't be a surprise addition. A lidar sensor would be probably make more sense.
Is the brightness, safe in terms of blue light? And or blue light safety?
Great review and probably best I've seen of this phone.
Mine is arriving tomorrow and this will be my first phone that isn't a Samsung since very early Galaxy's.
I can't wait to finally have a different manufacturer phone.
So many great things about the pixel 8 pro so I hope I haven't made a mistake. I'm confident I haven't 😊
Oh and I get a Google watch 2 thrown in too for free.
The one thing you're going to hate and thay erks me... The buttons at the bottom are reversed and Google doesn't allow you to change them.... Everything else about the phone is fantastic.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it.
Thanks for watching it!
Does anyone knows if those new features are going to be available via software on the pixel fold?
The video looks great with you recording yourself
I want to upgrade from iphone 11 for content creation. The self facing camera and voice control are my main spec priorities. This seems good and Samsung S24 seems to have bloat and its ugly. The important thing is, I need to see the lens clearly. Can you see the lens easily while youre filming?
Can you share how you edited the video audio taken on Samsung to be processed on pixel? Did you have to transfer the file into the cloud then download it to the Pixel in order for it to be processed?
I see reviewers commenting on the new softwarw AI photo and video features on Pixel 8, and say it can also process photos and videos that wasn't taken on the Pixel 8, but I don't know how to complete these tasks.... help?
All done in the Google Photos app. Literally any video in there can be run through that processing.
Love your videos brother from out here in America.
I appreciate that - thanks!
Still no PAL settings in video. I also can't use the space saving option in Google One because the video files aren't recognised by my MacBook
well this year i jumped ship, sold all my apple gear mainly for applications i need windows for (Power Bi, full excel, SQL) and part of that was moving to an android phone i literally got the pixel 8 yesterday (not the pro) coming from an iphone 13 pro max so far i am loving the size reduction and the AI phone features are fantastic. I have always admired the pixel look but it wasnt an easy decision to leave apple. I still pine for my iPad Pro but slowly getting used to the surface pro 9 for productivity and content consumption. I would highly recommend the pixel phone and your wallet will thank you too also it came with free pixel buds pro which are awesome compared to my original airpods
forgot to add Mark, great video and its nice to see you appreciating things outside of the apple world too
The audio on your vids is topnotch on IEMs.What is that wristwatch/smartwatch?
Thanks! It’s a Garmin Epix Pro.
Does anyone else hear loud tapping sound on the screen on pixel 8 pro? Its so much louder and feels like hollow or plastic screen
Just on the display , allegedly despite being nice and bright and colorful, according to another reviewer it is a peg below the displays on the galaxy and iPhone flagships if you want the the more expensive hdr displays for watching movies in maximum high color definition .
Probably won’t notice it in normal use I suspect, but you have to consider apples for apples when you call out one for being cheaper than another there is probably a a C reason.
In saying that I’m thinking of getting one as a second phone just for the AI stuff.
Really useful review.
Too many others focus on screen, speed and battery. You demonstrate features instead of just reading them off. Loved the examples.
Glad it was helpful! Means a lot.
Very nice video
Another brilliant review Mark!
Thank you!
Can it record bluetooth audio while using the front facing camera?
Love my bb pixel 8 pro. Cheers from Australia. 🇦🇺🪃🤘🤪🍻
Great phone. But as someone who uses his iPhone 14 Pro Max to do What’s App, email, browsing and a lot of You Tube the Pixel doesn’t offer me anything to make me switch
However, it is a brilliant media and vlogger phone. But for me no
Wow the selfie cam is a beast.
My only question is, what about heat. Does it get warm? I’m not talking about overheating. Bu whether it gets warm to the touch. I hate that. It’s a dealbreaker for me. My S23+ never gets even luke warm. Not in any scenario.
I just love your style and honesty. Top notch 👍
Thank you!
Do the pixel 8 and pro have better optimize modems ?
I would try pointing the temperature to myself and see what happens.
Hi Mark. New subscriber here. I really enjoyed your Pixel 8 Pro review and your studio, your obvious expertise, and your pleasant easy going voice just makes it a pleasant experience to watch. My wife & I live in the States & I received an email from Verizon today stating I was eligible to trade up for a free Pixel 8 if I ordered online. Long story short, I ended up trading my wife's 3 year old Pixel 5 for a new Pixel 8 Pro with 256GB of storage for $258. My wife already ordered a Caseology case for it & I ordered anew Whitestone Dome Glass screen protector for it. Hopefully she enjoys it as much as I do my Pixel 6 Pro.
Thank you for the kind words - they make all this worth it! And I’m sure she’ll love it - it’s an amazing smartphone.
7:05 "becuz I don't have any friends" I thought I found a fellow trooper but he immediately says "so my gf"....... nvm...
im buying it for the Blue alone!
I agree, the Bay Blue looks the best, but I got the black 8 Pro because when it comes to sartorial considerations for me colour coding is all, and the Bay Blue is difficult, but black always blends in well...
Really does not matter because smart people like you put a case on them which come in many colors. The phones are made slippery to promote drops = buy new screens and phones.
@@Physics072 good point, very good point... But if you've got that Bay coloured phone don't you think you gotta' flash it..?
Refreshingly useful review. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
That camera pan is STILL jerky, though. They need to get that together. Samsung killed that jerky video pan on the s22 series but ONLY in auto mode.
Easily the top choice for anyone looking for a new Android phone, especially if Google actually stick to their promise to deliver 7 years of updates.
8:05 - birds are not twitting anymore, they are X-ing😅
How the battery holding up?
Currently waiting for my pixel 8 pro hoping it is a great phone will be my 1st time ever actually owning a pixel as a main phone
Casting/Mirror Casting is not working on Pixel 8 Pro on non google devices such as FireStick or Roku
Uhm. Video with the rear cameras stutter like crazy while moving
U can see it even your own shot samples. How could u say u would use this for b roll?? Maybe only when not moving..
As ever, Pixel phones as seen through the eyes of an iPhone user is so interesting. Can you take RAW photos with the 5x zoom lens, and therefore get 5x 50MP pics that you can then crop?
I don’t know the exact answer to that yet I’m afraid. As for “through the eyes of an iPhone user”, what do you mean by that exactly? Genuinely interested!
@@MarkEllisReviews I think as you've said before (and I've said in my replies to you that I'm exactly the same!), you're "trapped" in the Apple ecosystem but love the Pixel's photos and other features. I'm always having little flirts with Pixels and trying them out before realising I'm so embedded with Apple with my Watch Ultra, iPads, HomePods, Mac, HomeKit devices that I am never, ever leaving Apple unless something cataclysmic happens. I used my Pixel 7a for three weeks before my iPhone 15 Pro Max arrived, and I enjoyed many aspects of it, but missed the Apple ecosystem so much because I'm so reliant on it.
I put "trapped" in quotes because I think Apple's ecosystem is second to none, and I thoroughly enjoy being in it, but its excellence makes it impossible to leave.
Yes you can activate raw mode to take pictures and it works for all lenses
So the camera bar still get scratched easily?
Love it. Day one
It's a better looking phone than the iPhone, but that's not difficult. iPhones have been pig ugly since the iPhone 8. That camera array is ghastly and you can't lay it on a flat surface, even in a case. Google solved that issue with the camera bar.
I can't afford a Pixel 8, but I'm more than happy with my 6a (in a case) which is running like a dream on Android 14. The fingerprint sensor is massively improved!
gonna wait for next year Pixel. The temperature reader on a back would be useless to me. hopefully next year they introduce Pixel with something more useful
That's just one of many things. So yeah
This is a very unique phone because of Generative AI ... I'm glad you focused on that to show why you would want this over other phones out there. I'm actually waiting for mine to get here ... Great video as always. I can't wait for the update months from now. I was truly amazed by the front camera for this video ... I thought you were using the back cameras. Cheers
Looks great, doesn’t it? Thanks for the kind words!
Shooting on the phones is a nice touch.
Thanks!
Does anyone know how to do the web page summary. ?
Press and hold the power button and you’ll see the option.
I was thinking of transferring from apple to google pixel but it’s the back up that keeps me from doing it . If you have a problem just call apple support but with the pixel there’s no one to call apart from website support.
That's not true. Google support is awesome. What are you talking about?
Google support is built into your device and you can start a support chat straight from your device
@@baldone45Hi I’m talking about can you call someone and speak to them directly if you have an issue.
Need Pixel 8 pro vs S23 Ultra comparison!
Personally I love Pixel phones, never been able to complain about them. It's just annoying that video out over usb c isn't included. My S23 + is able to do it with ease.
Forgive me, but what does "video out" actually mean? I'm switching from s22 ultra to 8 pro and wondering if this is something I'm going to miss..
@@jamief3035 on many android phones, for example your current S23+, you can connect a USBC to HDMI adapter to your phone to display what is on your phone on something like a TV, project, or computer monitor. This is helpful for some users who like to connect their phones to TVs for slide shows of pictures, playing mobiles games on a larger screen even.
I am a mobile game streamer and need to use said adapter and cable to play many of the games I play. With Pixel phones, they have not included this feature, which stops me from using them personally long term.
If you’re still lost or confused just let me know. Tried to explain it the best I could.
Before I got the pixel 8 pro I was one of the people that was plagued by spam calls. I've had the pixel for almost 2 weeks now and I haven't got one
Is google messaging encrypted or not? And same question for call app. That's what I want to know.
Messaging with other androids is encrypted with RCS. Messaging with iPhones is not because that uses SMS.
We miss you johhny ive
With Google's general attitude towards data protection, isn't there a concern with regards to the amount of AI this thing is packing? Especially with the features that require a file being sent to the cloud?
Probably a concern for AI in general. Given the potential negatives of AI that's probably on the milder side of what could go wrong. But that gets overly serious. FYI the 8Pro appears to do more AI tasks on device Vs the cloud. I believe Pixel 8 regular sends more to the cloud. But someone might correct me, just what I read repeatedly.
Know all the security features that come with Google photos still applies
Just traded my 14 PM for a 512 Gb 8 pro, just arrived
Enjoy!
So Mark, will you be giving up your 15pro max for the google 8 Pro?
Nope, I can’t. As I’ve said on multiple occasions - I rely too heavily on the Apple ecosystem in my business. However, the Pixel 8 Pro will absolutely be my Android daily for quite some time.
Until the S24 launch on January
A border terrier ❤
Good features but aesthetically i just can’t get into these devices.
How smoothly does fingerprint work?
Very!
Finally I thought you forgot about pixel already
Embargoes, mate!
Some of that B Roll stuff is a bit flaky, but when you have phones like the 8 Pro and 15 Pro Max, do you even need pro cameras for this sort of work any more? The main video stuff looks great. I have a 6a and its brilliant apart from being made of cheese, which is a shame.
The front facing camera did an amazing job on this one - I agree. I think the b-roll looks great, too. Pro cameras just give you more control, which isn’t necessary for a good RUclips video, conversely 👍
I am seriously considering buying this phone. iPhones are just so behind and they stopped being innovative a long time ago, I’m soon leaving iOS.
All Galaxy phones have been the same the last 3 years. The Pixel 8 Pro is the slowest flagship with the worst battery life. The iPhone 15 Pro Max best the S23 Ultra on speed, battery life, and blind camera test...that's innovation. Watch all Android phones use Titanium and add an Action Button next year to copy Apple's innovation. Notice the only thing the Pixel 8 Pro does well is camera tricks with software. Most people won't use those tricks daily
You should definitely get a pixel. You won't regret it, especially with the quality of the ecosystem being built out 👌🏾
@@lamar310 That’s some good feedback brother, I appreciate it!
@@therealzuluking Definitely thinking about it, I’ve never owned Android before so it’s all new to me, still learning for sure!
Just switched from the iPhone 14PM to the S23+ a couple months ago. The S23+ has worse cameras and worse battery life than the iPhone. Samsung's ecosystem is getting better but still doesn't compare to Apple's. I do miss Apple's ecosystem but I am going to continue using the S23+ to see if I can move past losing the features that Apple provides.
Have you upgraded your Garmin to the Epix Pro?
That is indeed the watch on my wrist currently 😉
So, which one would YOU choose?
Out of what?
@@MarkEllisReviews of the two phones you referred to in this video… iPhone or pixel? I’m interested into your opinion. Not what you would recommend to others etc ;)
@@ManosMe I’m slightly unusual because I always carry two phones. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the main device for my business because of the Apple ecosystem. But the Pixel 8 Pro will be my Android daily for quite a while!
One thing I’ve learned is that most people _aren’t_ platform agnostic 👍
How is Screen quality over IPhone 15 pro max ?
In the video shot outside parliament, the audio sounds unnatural with elements removed and your voice sounds dulled. I had to strain less to listen to you in the un-edited version; and I have tinnitus. Maybe our ears can do the job of focusing on a single audio element better than the software. While the removal/reduction of discrete audio elements is impressive and the development of that technology is to be encouraged, it doesn't yet appear to be at a stage where it is good enough to be practical.
The online article reading is insane.
I can't decide between Bay or Obsidian
@@AwesomeWrench 512 or 1 tb?
Bay looks horrible!
It’s crazy how I just managed to buy one on eBay brand new for £720, it just came out and the value is already so low. My 14 pro max was sold for £650 after 13 months. Android phones are great but do not keep their value at all.
I may be in the minority, but I love the quirky gimmicks that Google puts into their Pixels every now and then. Remember the radar in the Pixel 4 XL that let you use hand gestures to navigate, wave to Pikachu, etc? Those odd choices always make these phones feel unique, even if they're gimmicky.
