The first time I played that mission I shot him 6 times in the face, watching a guy with a bunch of holes for a face laughing at you is kinda harrowing hahahaha
A cool detail I just noticed. @7:57 when Micah says “Arthur’s been dead a long time” Dutch turns to look at him briefly. It must've brought flashbacks to when they were on the mountain and Dutch abandoned Arthur. Thus giving him more justification to shoot Micah
@@ronanb2337 Yes, but the same thing happens when you cut Micah's eye (only happens with good honor, with bad honor Micah kills Arthur without getting hit), but in front of the cave. Dutch leaves Arthur to die, just like on the mountain.

Gives me chills no matter the context. Listening to the song by itself, watching this seen for the 50th time, PLAYING it for the 500th time. Game of the decade for sure.
And the shouts by John. “ IM JUST HERE FOR MICAH BELL.” He really came all this way, through this mountain, left his family, just for one man. And nothing will get in his way
I did this mission wearing Arthur's old clothes, the clothes I've worn throughout my whole playthrough, just so the Rat can see the ghost of his past and the reaper of his death.
Maybe I'll use a nice Outfit Arthur made for Winter and that he only used that. Would be awesome to do that. I need to remember before getting off my horse to do it. Because it changes his outfit after leaving Strawberry mid cutscene.
For those who dont know you can go back to this place after this mission to get Micah's Revolver. Its pretty cool how the game keep Micah's body untouched.
This is one of those rare missions in video gaming where you're 100% invested in everything and feel like you're there in the game trying to make things right. I literally felt like I was gunning my way through an entire gang to kill the man who broke my family apart and it felt so good to empty the clip in Micah's head.
This mission felt most similar to the the mission from the first game where you travel to Mexico on a raft shooting a whole ass gallery of Spanish Soldiers. Loved that mission.
I just realized something. So when John comes to the mountain, he’s obviously there to kill Micah: to avenge Arthur. NOW when John asked Dutch what he’s doing here, Dutch replies with “Same as you, I suppose.” That right there fully makes me believe that even if John or Sadie never went to that mountain up, Dutch would’ve still been the one to shoot Micah. I think that after “The 2 got together again like old times” Dutch was simply thinking of ways best to end Micah. I know this video is like kind of old now, but I’d like to hear someone’s thoughts on this.
You're kinda right about that. Dutch is a vengeful man. He was there to kill Micah. Some people think that he was there to avenge Arthur but I don't think so. He was there because Micah betrayed him, not the gang, HIM. He always took everything personal and I don't think that Dutch care too much about the gang since the beginning. I have a feeling that he saw the gang as tools. Anyway, Micah was going to sell Dutch to the pinkerton right there but John showed up. Pd: I literally finished the game yesterday for the first time xD
I think Dutch cares about the gang in the beginning but then slowly he wanted more money. I feel his need to try to make more money and prove that he was better then his mistake in black water really tore the gang apart sadly. He just didn’t listen to anyone towards the end of the gang he was just really selfish
@@chewychomp1627 You got many points right there. But there are also some subtle signs in the beginning. I feel like Dutch was pretending to be someone he wasn't. Maybe It was way before blackwater. Hosea was the one who "control" him in a certain way, otherwise he just messed up things everytime.
Hosea was one of my favorite characters because he actually cares about the gang and the people in it. He would always try to give Dutch advice on how to run the gang but Dutch would not listen and call him an old man or something. It’s a shame. If hosea was the leader things would have Bennett went down the way they did. Since the beginning Hosea was the voice of reason
@@ishanc8565 Yeah exactly, I do believe Dutch is a good Guy deep down but sustained a brain injury during one of the robberies which clouds his judgement and leads him in to bad decisions like trusting Micah over Arthur during the end of the game but he ultimately thinks he is doing right if you get me.
Even though the game indicates that this mission was the start of John Marston’s downfall, (revenge is a fools game and Ross tracing Micah’s death to John) I’m sure we can all agree that it was soooo worth it
I think Ross still will track John, even he didn't killed micah, because in rdr1 after John did what Ross need from him he still kill him, because he was van der linde gang's member and I think Ross still will tracks John because he needs to capture and kill all famous van der linde gang members (Dutch,Bill,Javier,John)
"What are you doing here, Dutch?" "Same as you I suppose" never caught that on my first playthrough, I mean I got it a minute later but still lol very subtle
Love how Dutch puts his guns back on his holster after shooting Micah. As in knowing John will shoot Micah for him. Both taking turns at getting back at Bell
Just realized when john mentioned arthur. Dutch starting to lose his charm and confidence. Instead he completely lost word and drown on his own thoughts
@@Vomer0 it's written in the stars man... his destiny was to be evil since hosea is dead. Or maybe the time he met micah but still the man's changed. And its for the worst..
Dumb Broke but the thing is though in the first game Dutch would probably have NEVER even thought about coming after John Literally the only reason John goes after Dutch is because of fucking Ross Hell Dutch even warns him that Ross will go back on his word before he jumps off the cliff But it is John that finally makes Dutch realize that he can’t continue to live the life he lived in the old days, that his kind isn’t welcome in this new world, but since he’s known no other life besides that of an outlaw, he jumps
This gives me Goosebumbs. The music man. All the things Arthur said. All he did for the gang, just to be ratted out by Micah and Dutch. A masterpiece of a game.
So much for Arthur's words: "I want you to run and don't look back." "Revenge is an idiot's game." How true. Look at what seeking vengeance cost John Marston in the end? He got killed, his wife died from grief, and his son wound up an orphan, the very fate Arthur gave his life for to prevent.
It ain't revenge, its avenging. Revenge would be taking it out on somebody who did you dirty before. Avenging is taking it out on somebody who did somebody else dirty before.
Tbf John was already doomed even before going out for Micah, if the theory that Dutch was also there to kill Micah true then Micah would have died anyway and Ross would have eventually caught both John and Dutch.
Yes. In my opinion which may not be valid. In the credits u see agent Milton ask round valentine, where he met sadie, if he didn't meet saide he would not have killed micah and dutch would not know of John's where abouts. Leading them to hunt everywhere. And by the time they probably found him , he would be near death.
Micah is actually built like a brickhouse on the inside of the coat he wears. If you look closely at him during the Guarma act he looks like he has the torso of a grizzlybear with all that hair and muscle.
It is sad to see dutch go from this very loved and respected by his peers type guy to being completely broken and lost. Amazing writing though this series.
I find it funny that when I played this level, Micah was still able to do the little walking bit before falling down despite the fact that while in the dead-eye bit, I emptied an entire mauser clip directly into his head.
What I feel makes this mission special is that after 8 goddamn YEARS, we finally get to re-live the legacy of John Marston. Sure, many people say Arthur is a better character but I can relate to Arthur more as a human rather than see him as the lone-wolf badass gunslinger I knew and loved as a kid. When I saw the first couple trailers, I didn't know how I felt about the game not having John as the protagonist. And while I loved Arthur just as much, I still thought it would have been nice to re-live the nostalgia. And fuckin' BOY did it pay off. If you never played the first game, you never would have lived the full glory of this mission. I waited 8 years to see John Marston in action and after so long, at the end of this 60+ hour game, we finally get to live it in the best way: Storming up a snowy mountain going up against the worst gang in America with nothing but a revolver, all while a metallic remix of the game's main theme plays, not only does it succeed expectations, it completely SHATTERS them.
Same here! Love Arthur and have great respect for him and what he did for John, but - not only this mission - but the ENTIRE epilogue made the game for me! John Marston IS Red Dead Redemption! I think that the newer fans of RDR2 will love Arthur more and consider him as the main protagonist, but the OG RDR fans will always have a special place in their hearts for John! Rockstar did an amazing job with Arthur and you really couldn't help but fall in love with his character! I balled my eyes out at the end.....BUT, at the very moment that the game switched over to John and I took control of him at Pronghorn Ranch, my heart just burst!
Cody James Ikr, of course RDR2 is a masterpiece and I loved Arthur but playing once again like John against a whole Gang of bandits using nothing but a revolver made me tear up from nostalgia 0:10 13 year old Me: Ohhh you guys are so fucked
I know this is late but the line John gives toward the beginning: "Micah Bell, I'm just here for Micah Bell." You can hear the calculated rage in his voice, and I love that. All of the lines from this mission coming from John are filled with rage. Phenomenal job from the VA's all around for this game.
@@captainrex3280 Yup, I heard john saying "well let him take a look at me now" or something like that, I think that is from when Abigail brought John to see him and his wounded face
@@captainrex3280 I went to horseshoe overlook and got chills at the sight of how eerie and empty it was. It's so ghostly and I think I heard bits and pieces of Javier's guitar and singing. Like that fucked with my head how much this game puts you through and have cool things like that.
0:07, If you ask me, this was the moment John turned into the savage badass we knew from the first game. A man with good intentions, but a hard man. Coarse, and quiet. He knew it might be a mistake to go kill Micah. He knew the risks. "Revenge is a fool's game." Arthur told John himself. He knew he would want him to live on and prosper, Micah be damned. But he charged up that mountain and killed him anyway, because he loved his brother, and couldn't let that rat piece of shit Micah go on living. I hate to say I probably would have done the same. Consequences be damned.
What I love about this game is how it makes you FEEL like the characters, at the start it's mostly just "hehe cowboy" but near the end you are INVESTED in the story. When Dutch starts losing it you feel the pressure and distress Arthur and the others feel, when the gang moves to their last camp you only feel sorrow and doubt when you're inside, everyone's mad and or scared and people are constantly leaving. When this moment finally comes you ARE John Marston, you can feel hatred and anger while killing everyone along the way to finally get to Micah, and when you finally get the last shot on him and finish the job. You feel relief, a sense of accomplishment that you will never feel again. It's just amazing.
My first playthrough I got the help John ending with low honor. Let me tell you I was so enraged at how Micah killed Arthur that I stayed up all night practically speed running the epilogue. I finally got to this mission and I was legitimately furious. Every kill was personal. Every yell from John came out of my heart. I’ve never been more satisfied at the end of a video game than gunning down Micah Bell.
“The true way to play American Venom” Doesn’t shoot Micah in the balls six times while in dead-eye That’s the TRUE way to play it, always go for the balls. Always
I remember some dude tackling me from behind making me lose the hat. After shooting him about 12 times, I spent like 2 minutes looking for the hat and I couldn't find it. So I loaded the last checkpoint. It's THAT important.
I had one of those hats from the soldiers in guarma n I took it but on the mission back to the house after the emotional horse ride I got killed on accident n lose it😢
Tbh low honor basically means anger cause no one wants to be killed by micah then theres high honor where going back for the money then cutting a scar into micah’s eye making him suffer for a little bit which most people wouldn’t know about but still if they did they would just help john
I played this mission, wearing Arthur's hat, using Arthur and John's revolvers (well the cartleman I always used as Arthur) and did not run at all. I walked through the entire shootout without taking cover till I reached Micah. Combined with the music it felt so damn badass.
It reminds me of like viking horns or something. Like something you'd hear after a group of vikings attack a village at night, and as the violence settles and everyone stands around in silence trying to recollect what happened, you hear that horn through the pitch black trees. Its really creepy
for me it was with the hat, and arthur's guns. 2 schofields to be precise. i saw that everyone had their own gun except for arthur so i made him 2 unique schofields and killed everybody in this mission with them
I didn’t wear the hat, but when playing as Arthur, I used the same exact 2 golden double actions since the prologue, and halfway through the mission I realized I wasn’t using them, so I went back, grabbed them, then redid the mission
I dual wielded Arthur's first cattleman, John's cattleman and used the Lancaster Repeater Micah gave Arthur and Arthur's double barreled shotgun from the O'Driscolls' cabin Edit: I made sure I used Arthur's cattleman to shoot Micah
I like that!! I decked out the Schofields with the silver inlay engraving as early as I could and played the entire game with those so they were basically Arthur's signature pistols and then ya know John had them at the end in this mission I tried to make it look like the pair of pistols from John Wayne's the shootist I know in that movie he had colts but in this game the Schofields are the better guns so yeah anyways ya gotta have symbolism for such an epic story I like your thinking yo
I had Arthur's double action revolver i customized for him, John's cattleman, Arthur's Lancaster repeater that Micah gave him, and Arthur's bolt action from Guarma.
I used dual M1899's as Arthur until his end. As John I used his revolver and a sawed off. Doing this last mission and using dead eye to spray people with 16 rounds again was beautiful

Yea I think that too honestly. Micah was a dead man either way.
“Same as you, I suppose.” Dutch was there to kill Micah as well.

@@jgmurrayconcerts nonetheless, if he hadn’t shot Micah god knows who would’ve saved Sadie or maybe John
Even though the game indicates that this mission was the start of John Marston’s downfall, (revenge is a fools game and Ross tracing Micah’s death to John) I’m sure we can all agree that it was soooo worth it
To me, the message is that revenge is a fool's game, but we are all fools at some point in our lives.
Ross knew exactly where Marston was. John signed for the loan in his own name. Ross was just biding his time.

This mission was something else... the feeling you get when the song starts was insane.
I dual wielded Arthur's first cattleman, John's cattleman and used the Lancaster Repeater Micah gave Arthur and Arthur's double barreled shotgun from the O'Driscolls' cabin
Edit: I made sure I used Arthur's cattleman to shoot Micah
Yeah I honestly wish I swapped into the carbine and rolling block rifle to represent your first weapons
Holly shit you killed him dude.
What did i say about Revenge, John? It's a god damn fools game.
What about revenge for your family? When Lenny admitted he killed the people who murdered his father didn't you say you would've done the same? Isn't the gang like you're family?
@@Yougotcaged102 if john hadn't killed micah, the Pinkerton's wouldnt be after him and the events of rdr would not have happened, as he wasnt found at beechers hope
@@cyn1ck321 Yeah, when your fighting micah on the cliff, he says i will kill you then i will kill marston, after they avenged Arthur, and the pinkertons made a deal, it was because Dutch broke bad, you see the gang he made and all that, tbh, he had to go
I fucking hate you cringe roleplayers
@@cyn1ck321 bro then even he would have ended the same way his biggest mistake was to buy a ranch near blackwater where he was wanted the most.
I see that you chose to go for the money instead of helping john
Which is okeeee Im not your boss or anything
Wasn't intentional, I honestly thought Arthur would give John the money, which is why I went back
@@dagg3r181 wait how could he tell
Ender 1X3 cause Micah had a scar on his eye which Arthur gave him when they had a knife fight at the end if you go for the money
@@what827 ooooh
Got caught red handed, oh well ;)
When music starts: *"THIS IS FOR ARTHUR!!!!!"*
after the end of mission: *"G O H N(God) M A R S T O N"*
I did that mission only with Arthur's cattleman in his honor
I did it with John and Arthur's as if it's him and John fighting because they're brothers
@@bluespy163
Same. Arthur’s Hero Pearl Cattleman and John’s custom Cattleman.
I used the Schofield revolvers I had since chapter 2
@@arsnau8997 my golden cattleman has been my most trusted revolver since chapter 2 so I used it rather than the Schofield
I used both of Arthur's pistols but next playthrough I'll use one of Arthur's and one of John's
Everyone enjoyed doing this mission but Arthur said "keep going and don't look back"
but he just couldn't. which ended up leading to red dead's events. if word didn't spread of a massive shootout in the mountains with Micah dead, maybe the Pinkertons wouldn't have found John. And I feel like if John had a genuine choice, he wouldn't have gone after Dutch. Dutch would've possibly killed micah himself even without John showing up. John deciding to look back and get revenge led to his and Dutch's deaths.
8:58 Micah: “AlrIgHt, I’ll cAtcH yA lAtEr tHeN.”
Fucking dies
“I ShOulD GeT bacK To it”
Guess I'll die then
“oKaY LeT’s TaLk mOrE LaTeR”
“When I got something to take care of, sure.” Gives me goosebumps every time .
1:14 "YOU ARE RIDING WITH A TURNCOAT"
John dude, you just unloaded your revolver on his face, I think he has worse things to worry about.
4*
@@dylanrinker6831and just 2 got hit
John: shoots only with revolvers
The 2 rifles he is carrying in his back: *we are a joke to you?*
u cant walk too cinematically with rifles :)
FibAlex Yeah you can, but pump action shotgun is the way to go if you wanna look badass:)
I've never liked how it Automagically equips two rifles for every mission, but I understand in the heat of the moment it's hard to remember to grab guns from your horse
@@TiddyTwyster same bro, in every mission, like its spoiling you that something is going to turn up, like seans death mission, arthur got 2 weapons while everybody were walking normal lol and then y know
@@daymon167 Exactly this!
Gives it away every damn time
I only shot Micah’s face, and there was a hole in it for the cut scene.
Oliver Watling same here
I used two sawed off shotguns to make sure the job was done right. He’s face was covered in blood and torn up
I shot him in the testes
@@dookie8833 if he survived we wouldnt want him reproducing
I use midnight's pistol and fire all 10 rounds in Micah’s balls, not a damn hole ._.
Dude the fact that you timed it so well that after John says "MICAH BELL IM JUST HERE FOR MICAH BELL" the trumpets and guitars start playing. You're a legend my guy.
