Good review of the 790. I really like the character of the motor and slow speed handling of the motorcycle. Was in the process of acquiring one but ended up with the Africa Twin. The cam issue scared me off the ktm.

It's scaring alot of folks out of buying one. Shame.too cause it's a fantastic bike otherwise.

I can definitely appreciate the engineering prowess of KTM, however, I don't see myself ever buying one because #45 does not want to get scrapped like a 2-year-old KTM.

Thank you for your video. I hope you won’t be offended, but I think you are part of the problem with KTM. A second after you tell us, that you would not buy a 790, because of the way KTM handles this clusterfuck, you tell us you are going to switch to a 890, which has the same cam shaft problem, if you followed the Facebook grp regularly. This way, they still make their revenue and won’t bother, if people buy their products, regardless of their behavior. The only way is, to boycott the brand.

No offense take, thank you very much for taking the time to comment. Truth be told this review was filmed before all the most recent hoopla about the cam issues. I have bene on the search ofr an 890 since andI trully love every other aspect of the bike specifically the tank design. I want to believe KTM will get their head straight with how they deal with this, it would he a bad business decision to let this fester. It's unbelievable le how much influence these youtibe reviews and forums have on potential buyers. KTM would do well to read and follow even the comment section. I respond to every single comme I receive so them you very much for taking the time. I wanna believe in the brand and that they will do right by owners because for me it's been the most capable bike I've owned as if made for riders like me in mind. Nothing else o. The market gets me as excited although the Africa twin might suffice. Also, one factor woth me personally is that I never buy new from the dealer. I prefer to buy used and grown that circle of contacts. I've learned to strongly dislike dealerships. Thank you again. Nik

@@tobiasviktorsson7672 it looks that they are not. There already were few reports of failed cams on 2023 ktms and nordens. Time will tell how many of them will be in the future, as these models approaching 30k revision.

Yeah it seems you are right. I read a statement on the issues that was supposed to be from ktm but apparently it was not and it seems ktm are doing their best to avoid the issue.

If you have concerns about the camshaft issue then check your valve clearance and inspect the lobes! I just inspected mine at 13k miles- everything in spec and camshaft was fine.

My understanding is that it's not all cams but I'll have to do that too. Thanks.

For a 30 minute video that went by quite quickly. I like your content and presentation style. Being based in the UK it is unlikely I would ever be in SoCal but I do intend riding a MotoGuzzi V85 from Michigan to Az in October this year so who knows?
I tour around Europe using minor roads and gravel tracks up into the mountains - Portugal, Spain, Italy - typically between 2k and 4k miles per trip. In the past I have used single cylinder and large capacity road touring machines. Always struggled to find something that worked across the broadest range of circumstances. Even tried the ubiquitous T7 - for me a good road bike with an amazing engine but when off tarmac/pavement it would eject me into the undergrowth for reasons that I never managed to work out- just never got along with it and it always felt too top heavy.
So, took the plunge and went with a blue version of the KTM 890. Specifically the Norden Expedition. It is almost impossible to describe the difference in capability and the confidence it inspires for all the reasons you list.
17,500 miles in the last 15 months. No issues. Valve check performed by the dealer - who have a long and respected track record in this marque - and no camshaft issues.
It is my only UK based motorcycle. I use it for everything and am really quite surprised by that given the decades long loyalty to BMW.
If you are going to the 890, do take a look at the Expedition. In the UK, it was better value than the 890R. No extra payments. It just came with everything switched on. Although you would have to effect a complete sartorial change 😊

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences. I also found the t7 very top-heavy and it's actually a little bit slower than the KTM as well. The Husky shares the same gas tank design which ai agree is a game charger. It's a great looking bike too. I ride. Aguzzi flying fortress myself so if you arenin Arizona, make a trip out here and let me show you some great riding. I have a local tour in socal, we are blessed with offerings here. I hope you s stay in touch and I hope we get te chance to ride a bit here. Ps I've reviewed my guzzo California as well, best bike I've ever sat on.

I Also disagree with the micro transactions. I’m glad that the Zero I rode for a while wasn’t in that area yet, but the other major downside that not enough people talk about is the battery degradation. Strongly do not recommend for most riders .
