    Sounds like a bit of a mixed bag to me. Essentially the bike sounds good apart from the quick shift and the on the fly menu. I'm 5'8 - any issues there? Also is a centre stand an option? I've owned 7 mid-large adventure bikes. I wouldn't want to go any bigger. Next model up worthwhile?

    • @visordown
      @visordown  4 года назад +5

      you'd be fine height-wise, yes a centre stand is an option and, for the record, I've just got a KTm 890 Duke and the Q-shifter is perfect - it's likely the 790 ADV gets the 890 engine in a year so that will almost certainly fix the issue!

    • @djhowse
      @djhowse 4 года назад +2

      I’ve got one of these and my quickshifter is perfect now I’m used to it. I’ve got bobbins on the swing arm for a paddock stand didn’t want the extra clutter from the centre stand. It’s a fabulous bike, grab the deal they are offering at the moment.

    that's 2 separate English youtubers I've seen calling the 790 Adventure "the bottom rung of ownership of the KTM790 Adventure" or some such. Let me explain something. My mate bought the R and after going to check out same I did some research and bought the S model. The reasoning is that he'll use his in the dirt much of the time. As a city dweller I'll be lucky to get anywhere near 80% street -20% dirt. Guys, it's horses for courses - I needed the better touring mount (with cruise control etc for 600km days), he the bike better equipped for off-road. He makes use of various suspension set-ups for varying conditions - I don't give a toss about anything but ramping up rear preload when I'm loaded up. Would be refreshing if everybody bought what was best for them, not for their ego or how they perceive themselves in their dreams. This model has a lower seat height (830mm/850mm) and a far better seat for distances - so what do you REALLY think you'll be doing with your bike most of the time?

    • @mattzobian
      @mattzobian 22 дня назад

      You're correct. I suspect the S is the right one for me. 5'8", only 25% off road, nothing too technical.

    Elephantiasis of the testicles...LOL! I have an R model. The quick shifter works fine on mine, I use the clutch for 1st to 2nd upshift but the QS for all other up and down. No missed shifts ever. The KTM electronics menu is actually one of the easiest to use while riding I've found. The T7 is nice but on the street the more powerful KTM engine has a lot more steam when ridden hard. Off road the T7 lugs better at low RPM and has a friendly flat power band. The T7 has no electronics except ABS on/off, no cruise control option and no quick shift option so it is very basic. Some like it that way though, I have a DR650 also and like the simplicity of it. I also love my KTM with QS and cruise and electronics suite!

      T7 flat power band. I would call it unpower band.

    It is not you, I recently had quickshifter + installed and I found the same problem. It was grinding trying to go from 4th to 5th and 5th to 6th. I decided to use my clutch rather than tear up my transmission trying to use KTMs CRAPPY program. I've had soooo many problems with this bike I don't really expect anything on this bike to work properly!!! All the good reviews are obviously paid for by KTM. If you don't believe research the problems owners have had with brand new bikes, not bikes with 100K.

    First thing I would do is fit the hight mount front fender from the R model, the low fender just looks to goofy on this model. Great bike though wouldn’t mind having one in the garage! 👊🏻✊🏻

      Rally Raid bikes of yore had low mudguards, one of things i'd fit to an ALP PR7,etc...low guard would look great with the Rade Garage carbon tower...and it keeps the shit out of your face!

    Good review, agree on the tanks, not attractive, but you appreciate the impact of the low gravity off-road. Also agree it’s not a low end torque chugger on trail, it will stall if lugged hard. Surprisingly amazing on road though! The engine pulls hard at 7K & wheelies through 1st 3 gears. Either something is wrong with your bike or your doing something wrong in ride modes, you don’t have to “hold the handlebar” button to switch & “twist the throttle at the same time; just select your mode, let go, & “close” the throttle. They’ve just built it in for safety so sometime does go from off-road to rally while throttling & wreck. Definitely recommend the 790R for anyone off-road focused. We went in a off-road trio w/ a 390, 790R, 1090 & GS & the 790R was by far the most capable off-road of the crew: best suspension, lowest weight except for the 390, & enough HP for any rider off. GS was certainly smoother on street, but 790 owned the dirt

    I've read some quick shifters have had software side bugs that can be fixed with an update/calibration at a dealership.
    For me personally I just needed to raise the height of the shifter. Once I had better clearance the quick shifter smoothed out and is constantly smooth at a wide range of RPMs now.

      I have heard this as well. It seems you have to either hound your local dealer or find another one with skill in setting this option up. I am 61 yers old and just under 5'6" in bare feet and I love this bike. I had a 2015 Tiger 800 Xrx before and while I loved it on road, it was too darn top heavy off road for my frame.

    Awesome review! I’m worried about the quick shift issue though. 5th to 6th needs a bit of sympathy on a lot of bikes I find, except my old 1150 GS, which just goes clunk into any gear you like no matter what. Wish they were all a bit agricultural like that.

    The Quickshift+ for the 790 Adventure is an optional (paid) software unlock. To add it to the bike requires the dealer to first unlock the function on KTM's dealer website then use the XC2 diagnostic tool to program the bike and enable it.
    I'd say that, more likely than not, the review bike does not have Quickshift+ enabled.

    I never buy a bike until it's 3rd year out,or so,gives time to iron out problems and get add ons made. I've looked at this over the 'R' model,one with a few hundred miles and it's 1st service done,under £7500,compared to a new 'R' on discount for £11Grand(or a farkled one for £16k??). So, it looks like one of these, with the whole front end to be dumped,apart from switchgear,throttle tube and yokes,Rade Garage carbon tower,back to a single disc,up front,with my own forks(half way between the 2 models),as part of the 15-20kg diet plan....need to work out a shock length/linkage to suit,! Accessories companies have finally caught up...roll on the end of the Covid!(you can keep your electronic toys,no good going up a river bed or in the dunes).

    Overpriced and with a swollen ball-sack of a gas tank? Add in so many stories of LC4 and LC8 engines lunching themselves. Nah, I want the Tenere 700.

    • @wdmore
      @wdmore 4 года назад +2

      I own the 790R and so far I have had no problems. My quick shifter works great. I would caution you on the Tenere 700. I took a hard look at it before I bought the 790. The deal breaker for me was that it has no subframe. Would be very expensive if you have to replace the entire frame after a crash.

    • @sritter

      I have 790R and no issues ... it is a dream machine in my opinion from an off-road orient rider perspective. My brother in-law has a T700 and ride with him all the time. One thing we note with the T700 is the very high centre of gravity and the lack of off-road ABS and traction control you get with the advance electronics package on the KTM (particularly the rally mode)

      Tenere is a nice bike for the cost savings, not nearly as capable off-road than the 790R & not as powerful when opening them up on street, but the $ gap makes it worth it for some, to each there own

    • @THEelduderino
      @THEelduderino 4 года назад +2

      Steve Ritter 100%, especially a 790R. There is no way he’s risen the 790R on or off. Off, 790R has much better suspension, more travel, lighter than the Yamaha & better tech. On road, this bike walks the Yamaha at the light & in the corner, clearly more HP & better geometry. The Yamaha is clearly better in 1 area only, price. Yamaha undercuts this 790 by a few grand & is a great value proposition, but none pretends it is more capable off-road, too many reviewers have proven that not to be true
