There's a lot of idiots on mp, they want to tell you their problems, they're lonely, and lots of window shoppers. If they try to low ball on the meet up, turn around and leave. Price should've been negotiated beforehand. Not at the meetup. If they flake, block them. Never try to reschedule with a flake. Odds are they will flake again.

Great rant!!! Yes...this is exactly why I hate selling on FB Marketplace and Craigslist. Or any platform that requires you to meet people in-person. Because this means you have to "haggle" with people. A lot of people just like to haggle, but not buy. They have no intention of buying. They just want to have the haggling experience, without actually buying. It's like they want to leave you a nasty RUclips comment...in person. These "hagglers" will set up a meeting with you at a coffee shop, fondle your item, critique the item, low ball you, then play narcissistic mind games with you, then say that they don't want the item, then leave. And now you just wasted a lot of time (money) meeting this person, for nothing. Once this happens repeatedly you want to just throw the item you're selling in the garbage...and take the loss.
If it's an electronic item you're selling, you can also consider going to a pawn shop, which I have also done. Pawn shops are way more professional, although they usually pay less for your items. It's still worth it.
Gary Vee (famous internet entrepreneur) says that a great side hustle is to buy shit at garage sales, or pick-up free shit on FB, and then flip this shit on Facebook Marketplace. But the thing is...Gary Vee loves haggling. He loves meeting crazy people and interacting with them. You need a very specific kind of personality to do this well. Gary Vee is a unicorn and that's why you need to take advice from unicorns, with a rather large grain of salt.
There are specific items that can be sold on eBay. Which means you don't have to meet people in person. But these buyers can still make your life a living nightmare to do business with.
To sum it up...I don't think Facebook Marketplace is the problem. People are the problem. Facebook Marketplace just reveals how crazy we are as a species.
Truth! Hagglers be hagglin'. I'm def not one of those people who lives for the haggle. I'm always open to fair offers, within reason lol

I find the ones with specific unreasonable stipulations super annoying. For example the buyers that want you to meet them on the other side of the city at such a unreasonable time like 6:30pm and later . Or the ones that expect you to hold an item for them only for them to never reply back to you. The worse are the ons that price shame u and accuse u of scamming, even though the item is priced at fair bargain. I had one guy threaten to warn people of my price for a ps5 game , im like kick rocks dude, go do something better with your time.

I met a 30 years old woman weeb, who rarely wanted my "figma pin" for 6$ instead of 10$
and somehow she is been saying a lot of weird and dumb questions in order to label me as a Creep just because I asked "Are you interested to buy this YES or NO?".

but they never talk about how sh*tty customers are, with dumb questions that nobody has time to argue.
I have almost a year with facebook market and haven't sold a single item.
And many people are even insisting me for selling my items for free
which is very insulting.
They don't respect my time and my boundaries.

I don’t know what the high ups did to the fb marketplace algorithm since late 2023. Now they give you violation warnings for absolutely no reason and they don’t always tell what it is, despite following the rules . I currently have over 210 listings always follow rules , descriptions, offer no services, etc.

cashers check scams, people that want you to "hold the item" till they have the cash, people that ask a million questions and never buy, people that don't show. people that ask ifor trades when you say, "no trades" ... it is worse than craigslist.

A big part is where you live. I’m from the Midwest originally where people tend to be intelligent and courteous, but when I moved to Florida I found out that most people here are extremely unintelligent and abrasive. I’ve given up on associating with people here, plus FB marketplace has the most god awful user interface ever.

I make and sell high-end guitar speaker cabinets, and yesterday I legit had 7-8 full-blown conversations about builds that people wanted done, and every. Single. Person. That wanted work done and was serious about it gave me the runaround and said they would have to save up or needed to decide “later”, even though they were asking me a ton of questions, not a single one was actually wanting to proceed. And my prices are very fair.
And then I had your classic $50 offer on a $450 cabinet that was just built. I told the guy that if he was on a tight budget maybe he should get a more modest cabinet, and not the brand new custom piece that I just built.

I typically reply the same thing to everyone who message me. 70% of people aren’t real or are not local so I always reply, “Yes. I’m in southwest part of town. What’s your availability to come get it?” If they respond anything regarding someone else coming, give me your phone number, or seem like they might be feisty at all I’ll just ghost them. I will say this much, I don’t think there are that many better places to sell things. Finally, phones are the worst thing to deal with people on. I’m over that 100%
oooof agreed, selling phones unlocks the most sinister of behaviors somehow lol. Your auto-response to "is this available" is perfect - cutting right to the chase in a quick sentence seems to filter ppl out reeeeally quickly.
Marketplace was pretty good for a short time..but now it has become relentless "is this available"..lowballers..no shows..ghosters..time wasters..dead beats..UNLESS your giving something away for free..and even then!

Omg Facebook Marketplace 🤦🏻♂️ I usually get pretty lucky as a buyer. But one time I bought an upholstered chair and ottoman from CR Laine, the guy delivers it to my apartment at night- so I didn’t see how dirty and covered in paint it was. I messaged him the next day and he was like “well yeah, I’ve stored it in my garage for a couple years.” 🤦🏻♂️😩 totally failed to mention that part.

Facebook has totally screwed me I sell things all the time on a regular basis. Now my listings don't show up in today's pics are in newly listed category. Now my ads only show up in the local groups and not on Marketplace anymore. So frustrated and I lost so much income because of this

During the Pandemic FB marketplace had more good honest people that were just trying to get by, myself included. I’ve sold and bought many items, iPhones etc. Now it’s overrun with spammy craiglist kinda folks… Ohhh how I miss the olden days 😂😂

Facebook market place is full of jerks even a lot of the sellers on there who waste your time and don’t reply then sell the item to someone els or they do reply and you make plans and try to meet but they let someone els have the item it’s a joke people have no respect

That's all there is on Facebook Marketplace 98% are complete idiots! They're like you said asking if it's available, where are you located, will you lower the price, can I etransfer, can you deliver, can you ship, etc. I always give them the choice to where and when they want to meet in my vicinity and about 50% never show up and don't let me know, and the other 48% are all late! I'd say only 2% show up on time. They chose the time but they're late. They finish work at 5pm and tell you they'll be there at 5:15 ya! like that's going to happen. There's traffic everywhere. They don't give themselves time to get there but they expect you to wait for them like you have nothing else to do but wait. Another thing, buyers expect you to live on the internet to answer their questions and if you don't answer fast enough they're gone. On the other hand, if you answer as soon as they ask they are already gone or they're looking for a better priced item or closer location. I think a lot of people like you and I are ok and understand that selling on marketplace is not a full time job nor a way of living Geez! we'd starve to death but the ones that contact us asking those stupid questions are total morons. In the last 24 hours I had 2 buyers asking me question after question and guess what? No follow up, no sale. I sometimes add all the small print in my description but it's a known fact that when you copy paste your listings won't be seem much. I think I'm going to start answering 'yes it's available it's for sale. By the way did you read the title and the description. Did you check out the map to see where I'm located? I don't deliver so will you get off your butt and come pick it up? If not there's no point in you asking if my item is available'. It's so frustrating and some will give you one star because they don't like your answer. Oh ya! Don't forget those fake accounts too and fraud. It really SUCKS!

Ive personally sold alot on marketplace and yes it's garbage there are scammers everywhere and time wasters everywhere tread lightly and cautiously. Never fall for the google code and always make them pay cash imo good luck.

I have to say that about 75 percent are flakes. I handle this by assuming EVERYONE is a flake and have low expectations. So when I have a normal one I'm happy. I don't hold and I don't meet up until they are already at the meetup place, about a 3 minute drive from my place. This works somewhat well. But this was an eye opening thing for me to see how much rude people there are!

Somebody actually asked me if i wanted cash for my item in which i said yes and they said nope not interested in buying my item.I have had lowballers offer me $60 to $150 for a rare $300 video game.I was also selling rare pokemon cards still sealed in there clear wrapper and they were worth $30 each so some dumb lowballer tells me oh i will give you $10 for each one because they are selling those pre-owned on eBay in which i replied and said they are not pre-owned they are brand new never been used well all of a sudden the dumb lowballer stopped messaging me.
