    Some great tips. I sold a ton on eBay, but the source I used for my product dissolved, so I switched to FB Marketplace. And I agree with your points on FBMP. I've been burned for holding stuff for people who seemed sincere and lost a ton of opportunities to sell. Eventually they do sell, but first come first serve is my mantra now. Great video.

    You come to me with cash on hand and the item is yours. First come, first serve. No dilly dallying. I'm old school, I ain't got time or money to waste on flaky people.
    Plus, I'd be losing money on shipping. If you want it that bad, you come get it!

    If you are selling it through a group, on most groups the rules states if a buyer breaks their promise or tries to only pay you so much when after it's not been discussed , you can have them removed from the group.

    Great tips. I also only take cash and negotiate before meeting up as well as reminding i won't carry change. Lastly i have them wait on me and i let them know i am on my way. To many times before waiting on others who don't show up or decide to change the time to meet up without telling me, like wtf? In the end, it works for me no one says I'm rude for making them wait and are always happy that i sold them a collectible below eBay prices and without shipping fees. Everyone wins

    One thing you definitely got to watch out for are lowballers. I am selling an Xbox Series S with a headset included for only $160, which is the cheapest price for one on the fb marketplace locally where I am. Everyone else is selling theirs for $200+ just for the Xbox Series S alone. This guy tried to bring the price down to $120, and I said no. Obvious reseller and the same guy that got me last time to. He said no, thank you. Have a good day. If you're trying to sell something less than what it's worth,
    then hold on to it and say price is firm. So many idiots on facebook and lowballers are the worst.

    Stop meeting in person. It's not a matter of "if" you'll get robbed, it's a matter of when.
    Most criminals are inexperienced, dumb, nervous and desperate. I got robbed in broad daylight on a main avenue.
    Judge sentenced him and all months later when he got caught.
    Even ordered him to pay retribution from the $1000 that he stole. Some cash and credit cards he used after he obtained my waller during an armed robbery.
    Till this day I have received like $40 in checks, and it's been years since I've gotten one.
    But never expected a penny back, I am happy to be alive. He was a 17 year old with a few arrests on file.
    I will never forget his face, I even pulled him from a line up and he later confessed. Pleaded no contest and judge gave him 2 years and like 2 years probation and he was out in half that and I believe he got arrested again on a violent charge.
    I remember he had so much fear in his eyes as he aimed the gun to my head.
    He only said "give me all of it, all of it" and by the time he finished that sentence grabbed my wallet and went Hussein Bolt on me.
    I didn't flinch and gave him the wallet as he snatched it and ran away.
    That's what saved me.
    Because I even chased him on feet for like 30 feet yelling to drop my id because I needed my license to travel.

    Been selling on FB Marketplace for year's and I totally agree with your advice. Other then what you've already mentioned I have a few thing's of my own.
    I don't give out personal info like a phone number or home address. I tell them we can chat through the app and meet at a public location. I also make sure I'm not followed back where I live.
    I remind them the price of the item before we meet. And if they still decide to negotiate in person I just tell them, I'm already at my lowest for this item. Unless they're able to point out some substantial flaw that I failed to notice.
    I also only accept cash payment in person. Though it helps to have change on you. I've found buyers alot of time's not having the exact amount and asking if I have change. Though sometimes they might say something like it's okay just keep the change. Which is always great.

I message that I was at the meetup with her item and she responded “ oh I can be there in 15 min” I responded ‘no already left’ She later said I was too much drama. Huh 🤔? I'm just wondering. I don't hear anything about safety issues. Have you ever experienced, any dangerous situations? I don't like the idea of meeting people. You never know who's got a criminal mind and has bad intentions.

    • @jeffreychang6620
      @jeffreychang6620  3 года назад +2

      I've done a lot of sales, I haven't had any dangerous encounters but I think it really depends on your area. I personally don't like giving my address and prefer to meet elsewhere like a coffee shop during daylight hours. Depending on your comfort level you also can choose not to give out your phone number or email as an extra precaution but from my experience it's not a big deal

      My local sheriff’s office has a “safe zone” for these type of exchanges. It’s two marked spots right next to the courthouse that are monitored 24 hours by video. There’s also a panic button. I’ve never had a problem there. If someone is unwilling to meet there, I figure it’s not worth the risk!

      Always follow common sense safety tips. Meet in a well lit public area during daylight hours if at all possible. Preferably where there are surveillance cameras. Take someone with you if you can. Never go to someones house unless the item requires it. In this case NEVER... EVER go alone. If you're buying or selling a high dollar item I would insist on meeting inside the lobby of a local police station. Not many people are going to be dumb enough to try anything there. Always make sure your cellphone is on you and charged. Most importantly follow your gut. If it's telling you something wrong, listen and get out.

When I post stickers for under $5 I no longer have the option to ship. Why is that? How are people shipping for stickers under $5 with the option to ship for $5? • @jeffreychang6620
      @jeffreychang6620  3 года назад +1

      Im not sure why that's happening but my best guess is maybe it might have something to do with mobile and computer versions of Facebook marketplace and/or location? Usually they test things first on mobile so you might get the option there if you are doing it on your computer. Also it could be location depend, maybe some places allow different cost requirements. At this point in time (Canada) I don't even have the option to add shipping costs. Hope that helps figure out the problem

    My question, to anyone who is successful with FB selling....how do you manage the transfer of money on the item sold, and how do you keep yourself safe from those who want to rob you at time of sale, or see where you live to come back later to rob you. (I know, I know, paranoia, but today, you can't be too careful.)

    • @jeffreychang6620
      @jeffreychang6620  2 года назад +1

      A meet up location away from home in a safe public place is always recommended but isn't as efficient. It all depends your comfort level of convenience vs privacy. I don't think being at risk of being robbed is high up there unless you are selling high end items. Regarding payment cash at meet up or etransfer are both safe options.

    • @jeffreychang6620
      @jeffreychang6620  Год назад +1

      Could be lots of reasons, these are some things that come to mind :
      1) Like not enough info in the title/description/tags for ppl to search,
      2) item may not be what people are looking for,
      3) item has been listed for a long time. The view count could have refreshing after a week+ or pushed too far page back in its category where its hard to find

    Any tips on how to get people to look at your other listings on Facebook Marketplace?

    • @jeffreychang6620
      @jeffreychang6620  2 года назад

      One of the best ways to get ppl to check out your other listings imo is to mainly focus on a niche or two. I for example do stuff like toys and kids books. That way ppl can naturally find multiple listings when they are browsing a certain FBM category. You can also let them know you've got other similar items when they reach out to you and you learn more about what they are looking for.
      Having a niche can also help establish some repeat buyers or ppl to follow your listings when you make them. Hopefully that helps!

    Retail arbitrage is the ultimate scam. As a reseller myself, I recommend (on a moral ground) to not do it. It's too close to price gouging, and totally unnecessary.
