The Moody Blues were so unique! Spiritual, intellectual, simple, complex, and part of the soundtrack of the mystical journey of my life. I heard TOAD on the radio on it's release when I was 14, but had heard Nights in White Satin before. Every culture seems to excel in some aspect of music, and the genius of the Brits/Celts is melody, of which TMB, especially Justin Hayward, is an example.
Finally!!!! A reaction the way it should be done. Moodys, Pink Floyd, Genesis and many other groups of the 60's, 70's and 80's produced the best of rock. I'm sure I missed other names, like It's A Beautiful Day, and Emerson, Lake and Palmer and many others. I'm 73 and have been there since day 1, Totally loved the simple not overstated reaction. Less is more sometimes and you proved that to be true. Great Job!!!
God I love this album Wayne! They were the progenitors of Prog-Rock IMO!!!❤❤❤ And to those who agree, I say ‘There ya go man! Keep as cool as you can!”😉😉😉
I remember that every new Moody Blues album release was a highly anticipated event back then. From the album art to the music. It was almost a religion. My friends and I would trip on the best LSD we could find (which back then was very good), light a candle, and lay back. The heavens would pour out of the speakers. We were always amazed that they "knew" what we were going through at the time. They were singing to us.
This album is sublime! The Moodies are my favorite band. This album is my second all-time favorite album by ANYONE, ever so slightly behind my #1 album, which is also a Moody Blues album, that being DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED. Their music is magical, and takes me to a special place no one else can.
Five writers and four singers. Always unique, creative, melodic and entertaining. The poetry at the beginning (and the end in some cases) was written by percussionist Graeme Edge who passed in 2021. The flute was played by multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas (RIP 2018). Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull was a fan.
This is my favorite Moody Blues album and has been from the time it came out. When I first got it and listened with the headphones in the dark I got such chills. The whole album kept going up and up. This It's also in my top 5 just behind Dark Side of the Moon. It is so easy to listen to. I don't even take the CD out of the cartridge anymore. Great listening with you and hearing your thoughts!
Unforgettable for me. 17 and dropped orange sunshine for the first time ever. This was the first music we put on to listen to. You can’t imagine. Wonderful day passing my way….
@@dougreed2257 Perhaps. Or perhaps you would have a different understanding of what a ‘clear mind’ really is if viewed from expanded consciousness. Aldous Huxley quote: “Huxley was keen to repeat the LSD experience and did so two months later with Gerald Heard and Al Hubbard. They listened to music, something millions of recreational LSD users have since found to be a source of amazement. Huxley found Bach's B-minor suite to be "a revelation". He was so impressed he later wrote to [Humphry] Osmond: "Meanwhile, let me advise you, if you ever use mescaline or LSD in therapy, to try the effect of the B-minor suite. More than anything, I believe, it will serve to lead the patient's mind (wordlessly, without any suggestion or covert bullying by doctor or parson) to the central, primordial Fact, the understanding of which is perfect health during the time of the experience, and the memory of the understanding of which may serve as an antidote to mental sickness in the future". Sure the music may sound ‘great’ without ‘help’. But it can be an amazing experience beyond just ‘sound’.
I’m so happy to hear your reaction! More please! Also, try to hear Blue Jays, which is Justin Hayward and John Lodge, singers/songwriters of the MB; their album is a masterpiece IMHO ❤❤😊
They have stopped touring since the death of drummer Graham Edge, Justin and John are doin' their own solo thi g now, the moody blues are no more(as a touring band)
John Lodge, Justin Hayward, and Ray Thomas will trade lead vocals on albums. This is such a great Moodies album. It is a loose concept album. They released two albums that year, TOAD and To Our Children's Children's Children. You should review that one next.
Mike Pinder also contributed an equal number of vocals particularly on this album, not just on his own songs (sings John Lodge's "To Share our Love" for example).
Good to see you back.
Doing one of my all time favorite bands!

Great, great album. One of their core 7. Illustrates all the members capabilities well. Singers, song writers, musicians. All great.
long ago i remember listening to this album late at night when my family was asleep
helped me survive the chaos
One of my all-time favorite lyrics (end of Dear Diary) is "Someone exploded an H-bomb today, it really wasn't anybody I knew."

Me, seventeen years old. In my room at night, headphones, a joint. Loved this album.
And it even sounds amazing without a joint, honestly itdoes👌
Me as well! We were blessed to have lived in those days!
lovely to see you again my friend

Moody Blues albums were single trips on each. Very orchestral with massive synthsizers. ❤❤❤❤

All five were writers😊
Graeme Edge is also the second voice on that track, representing 'Establishment'.

Sounds great without "help" having a clear mind is even better to appreciate the music, despite contrary belief😊

mine was white micro dot
This album is perfect for road-tripping through beautiful scenery on a misty/rainy day.

YOU MUST SEE MOODY BLUES LIVE DOING "NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN" BLOW YOUR MIND🔥
They have stopped touring since the death of drummer Graham Edge, Justin and John are doin' their own solo thi g now, the moody blues are no more(as a touring band)
Ray Thomas on flute in almost every song
👍
cant wait till you hear the rest of this and the remaining 4 of their core 7. keep those great reactions coming
So Deep Within You was covered by The Four Tops! It was a hit single.
Side 2 is even better, IMO.
Still blocked sadly.
I agree.
Agreed!
Yep. As much as I love side 1, the first 3 songs on side 2 are worth buying the album for by themselves alone! Otherworldly beauty throughout.
Well it's all meant to build up to Have You Heard/The Voyage. It ends as it began too.
They all sang really, on the earlier albums.
The poetry is in a lot of their works. Professional music critics may have been somewhat split on it, some liking it and others deciding it was bad.
as if professional music critics are experts on poetry though. :D
waiting a long time for the next Moodies album and its an awesome album
I’m hoping you’ll start doing some videos on the band, Free? If you haven’t listened, you’ll be blown away! Welcome back…
Side 2 please
Much more Prog than usual….

Still waiting for side 2
Try days of future past
He's done it.
Side 2 (the better side :))?
