In high school we would listen to this - laying on the floor with a giant speaker on each side of our heads, and feel the stereo mix move the instruments from side to side through our heads.

Wonderful reaction. I could see that you enjoyed the music as much as I did. You touched all the great parts the Moodies were known for.

Thank you for doing complete albums. This one brings me back to the early 1970’s when I would listen to my older brother’s record albums and he had several Moody Blues albums including this psychedelic one! Great harmonizing and almost as good as Crosby, Stills, and Nash Harmonizing on their first album with Wooden Ships!

Ok, that's the first part watched. Also want to say thanks to Sam, for a great suggestion.
Many of the Moodies tracks run into one another, so it is a bit of a nightmare to pause. I remember when the albums first came out on CD, there was always a little miro second of silence where there shouldn't have been.
Brilliant music and yes as you hinted at, just try and imagine listening to this err? shall we say under the influence of something? Magic, absolute magic.
Enough said for now. On to the next installment.😁
    Cheers. 😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦

So many albums you could do of late 60’s/70’s English bands, for example Jethro Tull, Family, Traffic, Zombies, Yes, King Crimson, so much talent! The two biggest for The Moody Blues was Go Now and Nights in White Statin! If you like harmonies I suggest The Hollies album Evolution or The Zombies Odyssey and Oracle!

Before I even start watching this, I'm giving it a huge thumbs up!
I have all their albums up until Seventh Sojourn, (not sure why I stopped?).
Anyway a great band with a unique sound of their own. Very melodic and one of the first to make use of the Mellotron. Saw them live at the Isle of Wight festival and they were brilliant.
I think the place to start listening to the Moodies is really the Days of Future Passed album, but never mind.
My favourite album is On The Threshold of a Dream. (I think I am? Therefore I am! I think? 😁).
It is going to be interesting to see the reaction. 😊
    Cheers everyone.

On the Threshold of a Dream shows plenty of variety, as does A Question of Balance.

first and foremost. thank you for doing a complete album reaction of the Moodies. their 2nd album of which their 1st 7 are all considered concept albums and should be listened to end to end. 16 total albums, numerous solo albums give us well over 200 songs to take a journey on. cant wait for part 2 and the rest of the Moodies great music. you cant place them in any genre of music, they are the Moodies. they 5 have played up to 33 instruments on an album

Except their first one that came out in 1965 The Magnificent Moodies which was before Days of Future Past. It was after that first one that they transformed because they first did LSD in 1967

For those that don't know, Dr.Timothy Leary took a lot of acid trips in the 60's and had many followers. He was a professor guru acid aficionado who had his ashes launched into space, the ultimate high!!

With regard to the Moody Blues being a blues band, they originally were.
They are from my home town of Birmingham, UK, where one of the local breweries was Mitchell and Butler, whose logo was M&B.
According to the Moodies, they hoped that by having by putting M&B on the bass drum they might get some sponsorship!
    It didn't happen. lol
The original line up had a big hit with the single "Go Now" with Denny Laine as lead vocalist.
It reached No.10 in the states and No.1 in the UK charts

Watch the associated "music videos" for most of these songs. They are a blast! 🙂
Also, the bass player is phenomenal!
All those orchestral sounds were produced by the Mellotron.
They made full use of the "new stereophonic sound".

What's really interesting about this record is that their primary song writer, guitarist, and best singer, Justin Hayward, doesn't have a song or a lead vocal on side one. This will change.

King Crimson stole the idea of using a Mellotron from the Moody Blues

This is my favorite Moody Blues album. To give you a little background to this album, this time - you might want to read the Wikipedia entry for Timothy Leary.

It was so much easier because the first side ended after House of Four Doors and you had to flip the vinyl lol
Voices is such a delight with which to start side 2 as I'm sure you discovered

The Moodys got robbed by their managers and the recording industry so they formed their own label I believe Derham was the name. They could never play Go Now in public ever because they didn't own the song..

I remember seeing them way back and they weren't that good live then. Way to heavy organ and didn't sound nearly as good as their studio stuff which they were the best at.
