I think it's fine that he shows up when he does because Gozer does pretty much the same thing. I do think that there should have been more carnage or destruction that show his power. People are supposed to be literally scared to *death* when he's around (as shown at very beginning), but citizens are just looking at something in an icy hell...in tank tops and shorts. Even in the original, even though people weren't explicitly killed by falling rocks or the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, they were still panicking which caused chaos throughout the city streets.
Gil Kenan I saw Ghostbusters frozen empire opening night and I thought it was a brilliant follow up to Ghostbusters afterlife. I honestly don't know why so many people are complaining and review bombing it! It was brilliant from start to finish. A little bit more of Garaka would have been good. But that's my only complaint. I really hope we get another Ghostbusters film. Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis would be proud. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Genuinely cannot wait for the blu ray.
What took the theatre by surprise is when the events of Ghostbusters 2 were referenced and shown in the movie. Alot of people were talking about that when my wife and child left the movie. And when the tribute to the late Harold Ramis arrived on screen there was a standing cheering ovation. As far as the Ghostbusters villain is concerned; having a life Garaka is actually fits perfectly in the franchise when you remember the Ghostbusters extreme cartoon went H.P. Lovecraft with their paranormal activity. One of the best parts of this movie is the fact the Ghostbusters or a group like them are destined to be around to help protect the world and the exact reason why the firehouse was chosen was more than just being able to afford it. It actually has its own backstory. Attention to details is why I always enjoyed the franchise. I was just a little surprised to not see the painting from the end of Ghostbusters 2 not be an Easter egg in the film.
I think what connected to kids was it taught us that we didn't have to be afraid of the monster in our closet or under our bed. It gave us the courage to face our fears because we had our proton packs and traps. It gave us the strength to not be afraid of no ghost. That's what it did for me, at least.
Yes, unlike horror movies where the monster or killer always winds up coming back and is hard to get rid of/keep away, Ghostbusters is the one “mentally safe” franchise where it seems like no matter what they’re up against, for the first time, the good guys are equally as frightening to the monsters/ghosts themselves, and for the first time in history, could be counted on to permanently humiliate and defeat the extremely scary things they’re up against without a catch.
I wonder why they don't feel the need to answer some important questions such as... Who was Egon's wife? Who is the husband/father of the new family? Has Slimer been hanging around for 30 years or did he escape the containment unit? How did Phoebe know the name of the Hell's Kitchen ghost? How long had they lived in NY? Where are the parents of the kids from last movie? I know Podcast told his parents he was at Space Camp. What the heck did Phoebe do to her proton pack at the end? It was answered but not really explained. I have many more questions but I'll stop.
they've been in NY three years at the start of the film. we know this because Phoebe is 12 in afterlife and she is 15 in Frozen Empire. Podcast alludes to the fact he has only recently arrived in NY as he didn't want another summer in "Dorklahoma" Lucky was already 17/18 in afterlife so she is 20/21 in Frozen Empire. Phoebe plated her outer Cyclotron Core with Brass because Garraka used to be bound by a brass containment from the ancient prophecy. her using the firepole to do it was dumb though haha slimer has always been hanging around since he escaped the original crossrip from the first film; hence why he gave louis tully a lift in GB2 haha... there is also a scene where he scares tully in the firehouse. I'm guessing phoebe knew about the hells kitchen sewer ghost from Ray and being a smarty anyway.
The Darkhorse Comics series is meant to fill the gap between Afterlife and FE, Phoebe has clearly been hanging around Dr. Ray and learning some of the lore of NYC because shes quite invested in being a Ghostbuster and is a scientist at heart...so researching is in her dna so to speak. Podcast's parents are in Dorklahoma, the stuff about Callie's mom and ex are irrelevent to the story
How are they gonna ask technical questions about the ghosts like how they differentiate without mentioning the existing lore about classes or Tobins Spirit Guide?
This film is great if youre a ghostbuster fan. This is an actual proper sequel that fans wanted back in 89. This franchise isnt going to give you a shawshank redemption type movie. Its a funny, entertaining movie that features amazing comedians like aykroyd and murray and now rudd
Would have loved if Garraka actually caused destruction and took over the city. The movie trailer was very misleading. Made it seem like New York was doomed, but it was just a small little fight in the firehouse
Well, since the GBs dispersed Vigo - instead of trapping him - I don’t think he will come back around. I’m more concerned with where the four dozen traps containing Gozer currently are.
Yo but why does the villain's design look exactly the same as designs by a 2021 Solana niche horror NFT collection? The fingers, the horns, the dress, the dessicated body, the glow up eyes, even the first image released looks the same as the ones found in the collection lmao It's so weird that it looks so much like it, even if both designs are generic
The finale was spoiled in the trailers... Why go though the trouble of creating such an amazing villain and only have him be present in the last 15 minutes?! Pacing, Gil!
So that didn’t happen in GB1 with gozer? We see her near the end for a few minutes and wasn’t even defeated. She disappeared and they blew up stay Puft. Honestly the only villain to show up pretty early was Vigo.
I think there were too many characters and too little character development of the existing characters. If only a certain ghost had a certain ability but wanted to keep it a secret until the end because she accidently killed her family with it, would have been a MUCH better movie. But instead we got a movie where there are so many different characters and they only serve one small purpose in the movie and then they are gone. But overall its a good movie that people should go watch. Could have been an AMAZING movie though with some better editing. Even just having ghosts of people killed earlier in the same movie like in Afterlife, it could have been AMAZING.. too bad, its good but not as good as it could have been. I think knowing later on that certain people die in the movie and become ghosts wants me to go back to the movies and see them before they became a ghost.. Its not as good as Afterlife, and that makes me sad but I am definitely looking forward to the next one.
You messed it up Gil. The movie feels like it's made by adolescents with no life experience, for young children. Rudd is treated like an goofy adolescent, outclassed by Peck (who we actually love in FE, bet you never intended that) and even Janine. You never got the original Ghostbusters (Venkman, Zeddemore and Stantz) to speak to each other? Did you even realize the camaraderie in the originals? Also you never got Venkman to even have a dialogue with Peck? How ? Why the meaningless moments of nostalgia that pretend to be nostalgia. Why have the library ghost show up out of nowhere, scare Ray and he runs away. And that's it. No explanation, no meaning. Is this what you think makes 6 year olds laugh? You could have taken a lesson from GBTVG and Elanor Twitty.
Loved the film but I think there were waaay too many trailers that gave too much before the film premiere…..punchlines, plot twists etc. I felt watching the film that I was watching a series of the trailers just joined together. That make sense?? Loved seeing more of original cast just being there and hanging out…….id be happy watching the original cast in wheelchairs busting ghosts 😂
@@DblTap317 Exactly. All they needed to show of the ghost was his eyes…..or the horn thingies….let our imaginations do the rest. Then not show that slimer was back so directly….but see some munching going on…..I loved the film but I wished I hadn’t watched any of the trailers at all. Don’t they know less is more? I hope they don’t do the same on the next one PLEASE.
I watched damn near all the trailers and it still felt fresh to me, hell half the stuff they showed was left on the cutting room floor or altered from the final product enough. There were ZERO hints at alot of what went on in the movie.

I wish garaka came into the movie a bit earlier. It would have been good to see him cause carnage in nyc as a build up to the finale
bro they did the same with Gozer from the 1st movie and Afterlife stop coming up with excuses to hate on this film -_-
To be fair, Gozer only came in personally in the last 20 minutes of GB
I think it's fine that he shows up when he does because Gozer does pretty much the same thing. I do think that there should have been more carnage or destruction that show his power. I loved Frozen Empire, Garakka was really killer. Hope we get another movie I think they've set up a great new era of Ghostbusters
Who Played Garaka? Awesome Job Gil!! Let's Make More Ghostbusters Movies!! I Saw Frozen Empire and i Loved it!! 😎👍
He was played by Ian Whyte
Garaka is a primarily cgi character though.
Thank you gil & Jason
I saw Ghostbusters at 6 in theaters. I loved it and was having fun and not scared a bit. Of course I've been watching horror movies since I was 4

Loved this film, it didn't disappoint and I a hardcore GB fan, I also get to share all these films with my son who also loves them. 👍

Hey nice interview! How do you get an interview with him? Don't want his contact info, just curious how you communicated with him.
I think in a film or TV show that is goodies vs baddies. The baddies need almost as much screen time and story as the goodies.
Anyone else think about how Vigo is likely free from containment.

Gozer is no doubt iconic, but Garraka is way more fearsome in comparison to Vigo the Carpathian.
Also time helps our perspective of these villains. Vigo becomes more iconic the more time passes.
