Regarding the ghostbusting, there was actually MORE OF THAT in this film, than in most of the others! Even the original GB only had like... THREE actual scenes involving the Ghostbusters doing stuff! Go back and watch. There's the "Slimer" bust in the hotel, there's the Dana subplot, involving her refrigerator, and then there's the final battle, on top of Central Park West's Condominium. That's it. This movie actually had the same amount of "ghostbusting" in it as the original did. So this feels like a hollow complaint, by people who are allowing their "fan standards" to override what they actually recall.

Oh yeah, the horror! Guys gay people have watched movies with all straight story lines for as long as movies have existed. Do you think they had to put it in the trailer that a straight romance was going to pop up? Just leave it alone, there were little queer subtexts in the movie that could have been taken as friendship or flirting. If the mere hint that something could be queer upsets people in 2024 then maybe you should think about all the straight romances that have been thrown at us over the years. You don't see queer people complaining that there was a hint of a straight romance do you? If you don't like the movie that's fine but you don't need to be homophobic about it. If this is what you call giving an inch and "they will take a mile" then I am sad. It took years for lgbtq relationships to even be portrayed in a good light in almost any film! Now when we get a few you as a member of the general public can't even let there be something in the movie that makes us feel good or that we would find nice or cute? God bless you my friend and hopefully he blesses you to be less judgmental. Its fine not to like the movie. It's not fine to be mad there could have been a gay relationship.

I'll pass. The first two Ghostbusters movies (the first one, especially) were adult comedies. In fact, I would argue that the excellent writing and delivery of its comedy is what made Ghostbusters a hit and a classic, not the story nor the concept. Even the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot understood this (it failed in all aspects of execution, of course, but still). As such, this pivot to a more standard PG "family-friendly" adventure just doesn't do it for me. The heart of what made Ghostbusters great is gone and replaced by something that doesn't feel Ghostbusters to me.

The problem with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire - aside from it not being FUNNY enough - was that none of the character arcs were adequately developed or connected. The only character that had a complete and satisfying arc was the Ghost Girl. I got the impression that there were more scenes and most of the character development was left on the cutting room floor. I wonder if Frozen Empire would benefit from a Director’s Cut that was 20-30 minutes longer. But that wouldn’t solve the lack-of-humour!
Frozen Empire had potential and I sincerely wanted it to be a worthy sequel to Afterlife, which I loved. However, the movie was overburdened by too many characters - old and new - the Firehouse’s containment unit getting full and Winston’s secret Ghostbuster Lab being mostly irrelevant, and only scratching the surface of the “ethical dilemma” of imprisoning ghosts forever instead of trying to rehabilitiate them by helping them fulfill their ghostly purpose so they can transcend like Egon’s Ghost did in Afterlife.
The biggest plot hole was the “ghost spy honeytrap” scheme came from nowhere, because Phoebe never interacted with the Brass Orb; it went from the hustler guy to Ray and Podcast to Winston’s lab techs. If the Ghostbusters “Family Four” had been in proximity to the Brass Orb when they had their family drama and Phoebe was sidelined, it would’ve been plausible the big bad concocted that scheme.
The movie would’ve been better if it focused on the Family Four ghostbusting together, providing more screentime to explore Gary’s would-be-stepdad relationship to Phoebe and Trevor, and demonstrating that Callie was a legit Ghostbuster (after Phoebe’s dig that she should be answering the phone instead) and not just the Buzzkill Mom. If the Family Four had remained together for the first half of the movie, they could’ve encountered the Brass Orb and then Phoebe could’ve been sidelined by the mayor’s interference, which would’ve left her susceptible to the ghost honeytrap. Phoebe could’ve focused on that plotline, provoking her to seek out Ray’s guidance and calling in Podcast and Lucky for backup, forming the Junior Ghostbusters!
The two teams could’ve investigated the big bad ghost threat from two directions, converged in the 3rd Act, and everyone reunited for the climactic battle at the end.
Frozen Empire was disappointing on par with Ghostbusters 2, but far from the disaster of 2016. I doubt it will exceed Afterlife’s box office performance, but I do hope another sequel is made, preferably directed by Jason Reitman and focused more on the comedy rather than big budget CGI effects.

    Greetings Midnight's Edge.
Regarding this video. While I have yet to see the actual movie I have read the plot synopsis of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, with emphasis on Phoebe and what you have mentioned here in your video. As such I have reached the conclusion that some people are misjudging Phoebe's presentation in the film as a result of all the agenda based shenanigans running rampant in Hollywood at this time.
According to the storyline, as a means to get Peck off of their back, Phoebe is suspended from the team. Which naturally comes as quite a blow to Phoebe.
Now despite being Egon Spengler's granddaughter, as well as sharing much of his traits, Phoebe is still a teenage girl. One who is now feeling rejected with no one to relate to. Enter Melody, who despite being a ghost, is relatable to Phoebe as another girl of similar age and is in an emotionally similar situation, but has an ulterior motive for her actions.
This is nothing new. This scenario has been played out time and time again in movies and in television series for years. One example off the top of my head would be the characters of Webby and Lena from The DuckTales 2017 reboot. Curiously enough, their story is being reflected seven years later in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire with Phoebe and Melody respectively
As I stated, this scenario is not new However what is new is the reaction to this type of scenario. Reactions that are a result of all of the progressive tampering currently running rampant through Hollywood. So much that now when anyone sees this type of scenario the first thing that comes to mind is some LGB connotation.
Now as a Gen-Xer, I am more than aware of what has been occurring within current day media regarding such things pertaining to “The Message” as The Critical Drinker coins it in comparison to all media that has come before this issue. While there are movies and television series that are pushing “The Message”, not every one of them are doing so.
I believe that Phoebe and Melody from Ghostbusters Frozen Empire are not LGB virtually signaling anyone. At the very least Phoebe is a tomboy. To believe that all tomboys are either bisexual or gay is a stereotype and a wrong one in that. Unless the script officially declares that the character is either bi or gay she is not.
I have no doubt that there are people out there who do what's known as shipping and have probably hijacked Phoebe and Melody for either of the two based on their own personal interest and need for recognition. This has happened before many times. It is up to us the fans to look at individual performances and characters objectively without jumping to conclusions that could be detrimental to the performance run of the franchise. As well as giving haters any unnecessary ammunition to use for their own ends.

I took away more of a friend vibe between Phoebe and Melody two people who needed to connect with someone. That doesn't automatically make the connection romantic. And that "put a chicken in it and make it gay"... is all over the place. Even in stories where their preferences should not matter, someone has to say it. Why?

I don't blame everyone for being cynical, but if they wanted to make Phoebe gay, they would have. I think she just felt lonely and wanted a friend. We've all been there at some point or another. I don't think this the "woke effect" happening, so to speak.

But what they don't realize, it's getting out of hands, that's why I wanna stop watching new 2020 movies and start watching good old movies 😂 except late 2010 ones, that's how the gayness started, growing and growing
      Too much!! 😒😔🏳️‍🌈🎞🎬

I had heard about Phoebe's story prior to seeing it and was on guard for the story to go woke. When I saw it, I didn't think it was that bad and thought one of two things: 1. If she isn't lesbian, this could have easily just been construed as a combination of her depression for being cut from the team and her awkwardness in trying to get close to people or 2. If she is lesbian, at least they didn't beat you over the head with it. My bigger concern was how similar the spirit removal aspect felt like a teen-suicide thing, which I'm still not sure what to make of. I guess if it's via technological means, it might not be that bad, but I'm not sure.
All that said, I've heard less complaints about this and more complaints that there was too much nostalgia (which I still don't understand how that's a bad thing if the story still moves forward) and too many characters, which while there may have been many, I didn't think anybody really suffered from it. The veterans weren't going to be the main focus. Everybody should have known that and I was pleased with the amount of time they did have. I'll even go so far as to say I thought the conversation between Ray and Winston about retiring was the most heart-warming scene in the whole movie, as it basically served as a reassurance that most of the original cast will stay with the franchise until they die or can't physically portray the characters anymore. I may need to watch the movie one more time to check my views, but as of right now, this is actually my second favorite film in the series with the original being the first.

The Gay scenes in the movie does not exist in Asian versions. She comes across as just a friend in those. This shows that the message is only directed at western nations.

Ever since Afterlife, I had my suspicion that Phoebe is the 'girl boss'(Rey from Star Wars sequels) of the group. I wasn't surprised that Phoebe later made a ghost secret gay girlfriend in Frozen Empire.

DO NOT start playing STFC. Ops 55 player here with 3 years experience. The game is designed to suck as much cash from you as possible and is EXTREMELY addictive. They brag about it being the stickiest game that people can't leave once they start. Upgrade packs are $100 each. People have literally spent millions. Stay away.

I liked it. I'm one of the "latter" types of fans that you refer to, in your video. I think that it was "queer-baiting" at the very worst. But everything you state about Phoebe makes perfect sense here. Phoebe, the character, was completely pushed aside, and isolated, by the main cast, most of which were her family. And they did this at the beck and call of one Mayor Peck(erhead), whose lifetime goal was always to use his power to take the Ghostbusters brand apart at the seams. Phoebe was fooled, by a vulnerable ghost cutie, into being friendly with it. But she was fooled. Phoebe even becomes a primary force in resolving the storyline, by CONFRONTING the ghost about this, at the end! I truly think this is a case of fans being "hyper-sensitive" to everything Hollywood has thrown at us, in the past half decade. And while that is understandable, I don't feel like this movie deserves a lot of the crap that has been thrown at it. Not at all. It was a good movie. Was it great? No. Was it the best Ghostbusters film ever made? Not even close. But it still felt like a Ghostbusters franchise film, that was more than faithful to the original spirit of the franchise.

I am a BIG Ghostbusters’ fan. I LOVED Afterlife and looked forward to this one. I give it a 3. Phoebe WAS great, in the first film. They ruined her. Not the LGBT stuff, which WAS unnecessary. They made her a BRAT. I won’t be buying a hard copy. Sad.

Yeah, they didn't have the girl kiss the ghost. She ain't gay. She is just an awkward girl who wanted someone she thought was cool to like her.
This isn't 2010. You can't have an implied lesbian romance anymore to get diversity points. No kiss, no gay.
