The film was good but the ending was a bit anti-climactic.

The movie was just okay, but I think one of the things that hurt this movie is that there are way too many unnecessary characters. I would've gotten rid of at least 6 characters that contribute nothing to the story.

I don't think there were too many characters. The movie was CLEARLY shortened to meet an arbitrary runtime mandate. Whole segments were removed. It feels like 20 minutes are MISSING.

End of the day, its a ghostbusters movie. Its not hamlet. It has flaws…however i think this is a really successful ghostbusters sequel. It also dives into the RGB cartoon vibe. If youre a GB fan, i cant see you not having an overall positive take on this film.

      Boring movie

    • @dapperstache7747
      @dapperstache7747 Месяц назад +4

@@Poe-007 It can't decide what it should be. It was this weird mixture of GBTAS's kid friendly approach and GB1's more adult humor, but most of that adult humor was coming from the children.
The OG cast ranged from "over it" to "if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say." I dare say this "iteration" would have worked better without the parents or the kids. Kumail Ali Nanjiani was, imo, the best part of the film and the only character that felt reminiscent of "classic" GB.
They probably should have rebooted this thing 20 years ago as a PG-13 adult oriented comedy much like the first one. The first film was unique in that it blended a blue collar everyman comedic approach with horror that was played straighter than you'd guess for a comedy film, and it also is probably one of the most libertarian leaning piece of mass media to come out of the 80s, and most people completely miss that. The first film's primary antagonist wasn't Gozer or Stay Puft. It was Walter Peck. It's a film firmly rooted in the Reganomics of the time. "Small business owners save the world from the EPA."
What it's become since then is really just an amalgamation of flavor of the hour Hollywood trends and nostalgic scrapings of the first two films + the animated series, and it doesn't execute that direction well. Afterlife imo was a cynical ploy. I enjoyed bits of it, but I was also aware that I was being intentionally manipulated. They just can't recapture the zeitgeist of the first film. It's a product of an age long since past. Same as any other 80s/90s powerhouse franchise. Look at Terminator. A killer cyborg is only terrifying until reality surpasses science fiction. What AGI could potentially do to orgranized society is much more terrifying than metal androids with austrian accents that eventually become curtain salesmen. It just doesn't work anymore. Look at capeshit movies. They got popular in the early 00s with TDK, Marvel and Xmen. All have devolved into formularic, paint by number affairs. Coloring books for adult children. This GB film felt a bit like a Marvel movie. Thanked my buddy afterwards for taking me to my last ever GB film, because while it and the previous film weren't the worst films I've seen, I got nothing out of them. Cashin' in my chips.
I think at the end, people are tired of having the same empty tropes recycled, ad nauseum.

This was a terrible movie. The movie starts out in the early 1900s and it shows firemen leave the fire house to go to an adventurers club which is completely frozen where they find the orb and a 5 foot four girl wearing armor is able to run past entire squad a fireman without being picked up like a football. When we finally get our explanation from the sack of garbage known as Patton Oswalt of all people, they say that there are fire masters, that imprisoned the demon because he was working for a king, but they also refer to the demon as a god, so is he a demon or a god. Why was he working for the king what compelled him? So the fire masters, entrap him in the orb. They never said where they were or came from, how the orb was made, by who
Such stupid writing with dialogue like Sumerian? No it’s older than Sumerian. No it’s not Sumerian is the first form of writing in the cuneiform way to sound uneducated
Most of the movie is about a tacked on lesbian romance between Phoebe in a ghost teenager that’s trying to seduce her to double cross her. This character didn’t even need to be in the movie, because the whole point was for her to be holding a match at the end for the Firemaster to have fire. Meanwhile, if a Ghostbusters fan was writing this movie, they would’ve just had Ray tap his shirt pocket and pull out a cigarette and a lighter and light it while the other guys look at him disappointed and he shrugs. That’s what the Ghostbusters are about.
The very first scene with a Ghostbusters, which is the second scene in the movie is a family camping trip. Meanwhile, there’s a giant ghost flying around the city while they’re shooting at buildings with people in them. Smiling and laughing the whole time because you know there’s no threat in this movie it’s a Disney film. Every time there’s danger, Paul Rudd can’t stop smiling, and the only time he approached being an actor was one scene near the containment unit besides that he’s just Tony Danza playing Tony Danza again. The mother was an anchor on this movie. She is just depressing to be around. The son wolf was more entertaining than anyone in this movie and he’s only in two scenes. The blonde lab guy was enjoyable.
Winston looks completely incompetent because he builds a research lab with normal glass instead of bulletproof glass or anything for viewing windows, and he puts objects inside that could break the prison he made, and has no generator back up system for the main power Even the cartoon did that. They also made Winston not believe Ray, which is just laughable to anyone who knows how close they are. The chess playing scene was obviously written by a millennial because both of them are moving chess pieces faster than a grandmaster, but neither of them have to look at the board. They just have their millennial conversation because girl power I guess.
If they wanted to tack on a love interest They should’ve made the fire master a teenager, because he was the character that just lost his grandmother, who raised him giving his character some vulnerability, instead of just being an unfunny putz. But you know Hollywood is garbage and then Aykroyd will do anything if they say you can make a movie. I was looking forward to this movie for a year and it turned out to be complete trash. Now let’s get to the final fight. Which was the dumbest part of the movie because everybody worships phoebe instead of relying on Ray, who invented all of this gear. her idea is because the ball was made out of brass. She should coat all of the components of her proton pack in brass. First off that’s not how you plate metal. Second off that would make the proton pack not work. Also, the proton pack is like the fire. it controls, but does not capture. The orb was made of brass shouldn’t she have coded a ghost trap? now let’s move on to how all of the characters are pointless because they have nothing to do everybody in the fire house shoots the guy and when it doesn’t work (which they already knew before that point) so they spend the entire end of the movie pinned up against the wall while Phoebe tries to save the day with her broken proton pack that weighs more than she could lift in real life. So now at this point, the containment unit has already blown and the ghost have escaped so they turn the containment unit into a ghost trap by turning a screwdriver and now it’s a big ghost trap, even though it’s full of cracks and holes. And of course it takes half of the cast to pull a lever because they just can’t find anything for these characters to be doing in this movie. The only saving grace of this movie was Bill Murray’s performance. But if you want to watch a good movie, you might wanna just go check out bill in the razors edge. Because this movie was just made for stupid people. Also, the plot point of her coding, the proton pack with brass showed them cutting the fire pole and then in a later seen the Firemaster slides down it. Where did the cut go?

    - Most jump scares out of all GB movies
    - Literally a “Real GB 30 mins episode extended to 2 hours” type of format
    - The Phoebe / Melody drama was almost unnecessary.
    - The Final battle against Garraka was too short.
Bonus: The “fire magic” against Garraka, just diluted the respect I had for the proton’s pack.
Conclusion: This is better than Ghostbusters 2… but still needs improvement to match GB 1.

Like the fire magic belongs to these ancient races that a presumably blessed or granted powers by super natural means.
Yet these races and groups died out due to time.
Meanwhile the modern day group with no external knowledge came up with there own modern alternatives which are arguably just as effective if not more so being able to handle multiple world ending threats.
Like the fire magic guy is like a last in a generation of some super ancient race but the Paks are literally made to ensure that humanity can outlass them.

Im just glad Murray, Potts, Atherton, Rothman, Aykroyd, and Hudson
Peck coming back was huge win last we saw of him was only voice role in gamem. Such a missed opportunity it should have been Peter to call him Mayor Dickless not some random person. Or Peck redeems himself after all these years since he was the one who had power shut off (yes i agree with fandom Peck was just doing his job and had Peter not been such a-hole to Peck just show him what they do and explain why Ghostbusters need to exist all the events we saw happened could have been prevented) have him and Peter agree to work together or something to give both of them character development.
John Rothman cameo put smile on face instantly recognized him
Silmer and Trevor subplot was actually funny in the end Silmer helped save Trevor and the others.
I wish that both old and new Ghostbusters could have had montage teaming up catching all ghost in new york and have og cast be mentors to egon family pass the torch and recruit more Ghostbusters like video game and Extreme Ghostbusters did expand the universe to spin off films or live action series.
I wish Sigourney Weaver could have been in it and make her an official Ghostbuster alongside her character son Oscar. Also wish Rick Moranis, Reginald VelJohnson, Kurt Fuller, and Peter MacNicol could have made a cameo appearance since John Rothman came back for a cameo why not them.

Like it's a hard thing to balance.
Do you want a film that's got a lot of action to look very visually appealing or do you want a film that really tries to explore the characters further.
You can have both of course but it requires a good balance. Perhaps they had a few more busting scenes of the family handling ghosts with phoebe...it would have helped a lot like showing them confident without her to really sell how depressed she's getting with being benched.
Eh...still fun with what we got 😊

    • @MOVIE.KNIGHTS
      @MOVIE.KNIGHTS Месяц назад

@@rushalias8511 Ghostbusters Frozen Empire wasn't that hard to balance, The family Drama didn't need to take up half the film, and a lot of those scenes Could've been to bringing Grakaha in Early in the film giving him more scene Presence. The biggest mistake this film made was only giving Grakaha 10 minutes of scene time at the end of the movie. which came off as anti-climatic, it was a Waste of a Great Powerful villian.
Dont get me wrong the film was okay, but it was unbalanced, should have been longer to give more scene time for Grakaha causing havoc in the city, instead of just showing up late min of the Film.
This film could have done better. I think this director dropped the ball on this film. Because it needs $300 to break even, it only made $100 million, which mean this could end up being a flop because of those mistake

I hated the pacing of it, and there were way too many characters, plus the whole "turning into a ghost" part was so freaking dumb and I hated it. With that being said I still enjoyed the movie as a whole. The base plot point of the movie is solid. I liked the villain and I liked some things they introduced. I also disliked some things they did such as having so many characters that were NOT necessary. If you can erase a character from a movie and it changes nothing (or even improves it) then that shows how pointless it was to have them. They rushed through a few parts and added humor at the worst times when they could have been fleshing out the true characters and the future of the Ghostbusters.
I thought they were going to build on the "ghost friend" part because it made little sense. Either that or I thought the girl was going to flat out be evil. When she was invited in, like a vampire, and went straight down to the storage container I thought she was going to open it up and release all of the ghosts right then and there. Or better yet...why didn't the Possessor possess the ball that had Garraka in it? It can possess inanimate objects. Well.......the BALL itself was basically a prison. Why couldn't it just possess that and open itself up to release Garraka instead of needing a human to chant? I guess the point is that I wanted this movie to be a little darker in some spots because it was just way too friendly. This movie would have something serious happen and then they'd skip to some corny joke, back to serious, then a long joke. It was just...eh.
Overall I still had fun with it and that's why I didn't hate it. I can nitpick the hell out of this movie because it is NOT perfect by any means, but it's still fun for the nostalgia and action alone. I can see how hardcore fans, or cinephiles, could be strongly put off from this movie because the pacing is terrible, the comedy is mixed, and day time ghostbusting is pretty comical at times and it shouldn't be.

    • @rushalias8511
      @rushalias8511 Месяц назад

I think possessing the ball is probably the dumbest thing it could.
Like the ball is made specifically to the contain the ghost. I feel like given the nature the ball itself would just absorb and store the ghost inside as a self defense mechanism. It would be too easy to free it otherwise.
That aside...yeah that whole becoming a ghost thing was stupid.
Ngl if they wanted to go the route they could have built up as something much darker. I mean the whole idea of becoming a ghost is quite literally wanting to taste death. Phoebe gets depressed by being benched feels isolated....gets manipulated into thinking death is an answer...you can see how dark this could go and how it could have easily made the villain even more sadistic and cruel if they insighted this beyond just employing a henchman.
Over all I agree it's still a fun movie

I think it's time they had an "Extreme Ghostbusters" to "The Real Ghostbusters".
We do need that Ghostbusters Inc. movie to happen, alongside the animated film, then a third mainline Ghostbusters film with bigger stakes.
Ghostbusters Inc. could be that grounded modern-comedic horror take on the franchise, while the animated movie is more based on the OG cartoon, and the mainline film should be the big blockbuster film that drives the other two home.
I don't think they'll do that, but it would be nice...cause you think, with child stars as part of the main cast, they'd want the audience to grow up with them, right?

In the first one, Gozer was kinda there and gonna without really doing anything, despite the build up. Same thing with Vigo in Ghostbusters 2 (only having a slightly higher threat value). Having a build up to the big bad, only to have a short time with it before it's defeated isn't anything new. I think the most time we got with the main antagonist was the return of Gozer in Afterlife.

I liked the scenes where the original cast competently worked together as a team toward a resolution of the conflict. So about 5 seconds of the movie.

i was under the impression that ghosts like slimer or possessor were just entities and then ghosts like melody were people and that’s the moral difference between caging some and not others

I was entertained and enjoyed it. A bit disappointed theres no eerie, creepy scenes like how the first one was. Ive now given up on hoping a ghostbusters movie will do that

Honestly knew the critics would probably tear it apart but as a Ghostbuster fan who grew up with the movies it was a funny movie and I enjoyed it. Fire master had me dying 😂 Also got a Stay Puft Bucket.

Really like your idea to explore the whole not every ghost should be blasted and trapped it's something that the toons explored a bit. Kumails character believe it or not actually fits in with the gb universe, the toons and comics have had people do strange and amazing things beyond proton streams

I feel like the Ghostbusters is one of the only franchise theyre doing right. Im easily entertained i suppose. I love the stop motion tim burtonesque graphics. Slimer looks freaking amazing omg!!!!! Hes our faveorite!!!! I feel like the Fathers son actually cares. Very well done. I like that the day time was different and the ice looked amazing. I think it was crazy it happened in the day time. Well done!

My mom caught herself on fire when she was a baby. So when they showed the ghost on fire it made me think of her and all the suffering she experienced recovering from the tregedy. She could have been a ghost but shes a fighter. Baptized by fire

The one thing I would’ve wanted more of is the villain. There wasn’t a lot of Gozer in the first film, so it makes sense not to have a lot of Garraka, but it would’ve been cool to have a little bit more than what we got. That said, it was still great.

I’ll be honest I really enjoyed it.
    Is it perfect , no.
Does it come close to the original ,no.
But Jason Reitman did do well with continuing to honor what was done before and continuing the family’s story .

The cartoon series explores a world that is full of ghosts and the occasionally supernaturally powered individual. It’s a slice of life show but where they end up saving the city more often then I’m sure they would like. Frozen Empire really plays into to that dynamic, and if the series is going to continue that’s exactly what it needs. It can’t fall back on using Gozer again. It needs a new threat each time. Frozen Empires villain fits in so well with spectral alumni from the show like Samhein and The Boogie Man. This movie was a lot of fun and I’m excited for the next ghost chasing romp.

The awkward forced gay necrophile pedophile relationship between Phoebe and Melody really rubbed me the wrong way and took up too much of the film AND it felt very off brand. im Pansexual, not homophobic by any means... thats the least of my concerns... hell, Phoebe potentially being lesbian is not a concern for me at all. i just feel like it was strange. hell, one of the main plot points of the movie is that Phoebe is 15 years old yet they make her seem romantically interested in a ghost (of all things) a ghost who's actress is 21 years old
