I’ll be honest with you, Chris. I liked the old Ghostbusters movies, but they were a product of their time. I feel like interest has diminished in this franchise because they need to reinvent themselves. Going the horror route could refresh that interest.

This movie is the epitome of leave your grandparents at home and don't bring them to a movie party. Meaning they should have left the old ghostbusters out of it and maybe the movie would be more successful with a brand new cast on their own.

@@cadenrichardson4005 Overall franchise Star Wars wins but what’s been done in the last couple years. (We can ignore the 2016 movie) Jason and team are handling the transition correctly. I loved Frozen Empire, maybe even better than Afterlife it’s a tough call.

It's a good thing that Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale hold the rights for the Back To The Future movies so Universal Pictures can't make more of them unless both Zemeckis and Gale are dead but it could still be prevented from making more if Zemeckis and Gale passed the rights to their children

Hear, hear! Part of me wants to see Tom Holland and RDJ in the role though. I'm someone who hates seeing the same few actors getting all the roles, like Tom as Nathan Drake... Like, really? But I feel like if they were to remake BTTF, it would have to be those two.
Having just watched the film, I agree with this review on every point, which is unusual these days. I felt like this was - intentionally - the "comfy pair of slippers" kind of film that rewards long-time fans and doesn't alienate casuals. I loved the additions to the lore, I thought the characters were great, but I agree it felt a little overstuffed. There was so much to explore but not enough time to give it the attention it deserved. I especially loved that Ray, as a legacy character, wasn't just a cameo. He really drives the story and gets some great moments. Poor Trevor got kind of forgotten, but he did have a few good moments. Phoebe's arc could make or break for a lot of viewers. I personally didn't mind it and felt it showed her character starting to really grow, but it could have used a bit more breathing time. It was a very low-key story thread in a story that was full of big moments - it has a very important function but the viewers need to be patient to get the pay-off. It's not going to satiate the fans who think Ghostbusters is just a Bill Murray vehicle (although I will say this is the first time I have watched him as Venkman without cringing because he gets to be funny without being sleazy). This is for the fans who want to know that the creative team understands and respects the franchise. Sadly, that means it's not going to be a blockbuster success, especially beciae Sony threw all their marketing money behind their latest Marvel flop, hoping to catch the last dying breaths of the superhero boom. With a bit of luck we will get at least one more GB film to round it all off, but, if we don't, this feels like it could be a graceful exit for the boys (and girls) in grey.

I also want to thank you for slightly disagreeing that Ghostbusters is first and foremost a comedy. GB has been the love of my life but I never understood why people say Ghostbusters is a comedy, yes it has comedy in it but at its core it is a mixed genre movie.....its not just ONE genre

A fun adventure is all I want out of a movie. Been a fan of Ghostbusters since I was a kid, as long as it’s entertaining then I’m happy with that. Not paying attention to any of the negative things I’m hearing about it, thanks for your honest review.

I saw it and enjoyed it. I did get the feeling that a lot was going on. I wasn't prepared for so many new things in the universe. The nostalgia is there, but it isn't relied upon much outside of the usual equipment, which does sport some upgrades, and a few ghosts. If the studio does a Blu-ray print, I will surely have it on my shelf of Blu-rays. I also think it may be unfair for me to judge it because at the moment, I am in my final semester for VFX for film and games and there are A LOT of things on my plate, so those things were on the back of my mind as I took a moment to try to see the movie today. I think I might actually go see it again when I get a moment.
Cris is slowly becoming the Jeremy jahns of the younger generations.

You gotta understand that the first 2 Ghostbusters movies both had crazy and fast paced endings that make no sense on paper
This was the ghostbusters movie I was wanting too. It was fun and entertaining. You will probably like it if you liked ghostbusters 2 and afterlife. If you just like ghostbusters 1, it may not be for you. The thing is will anything going to compare to the original? No. Does this movie provide an interesting story that doesn’t rehash ghostbusters 1 & 2, heck yeah!

What made ghostbusters great was a small cast and tight writing where everyone had a purpose and moves the story along. Every character is important to the story. If the cast is bloated, you just have another Marvel movie. People are tired of Marvel movies with 57 cast members. I’m cool with expanding the world but too many people with no need is concerning.
If it’s any consolation both end battles with Gozer and Vigo went by pretty quickly and there really wasn’t a build up for either one. They were talked about here and there through out both movies and Vigo was shown sometimes but there wasn’t much. Still 2 very awesome movies though and my favorite movies of all time at that.
Well I don't know about most people but I was super stoked for this movie to come out I've already watched it three times it's amazing just seen it for yourself and don't believe any RUclipsr who says that the movie was bad
No one knows that Winston's counterpart in the kids' group is Lucky. They're both names of cigarettes. That's the height of the comedy here.
The new team worked well in the last movie, they really don’t belong in this one. When you think about it more than half the team are kids. It just doesn’t make sense for the plot here.
It seems the film makers don’t even know what to do with the legacy characters and they are just there at times.
I enjoyed Afterlife very much for what it was, a movie to honor the franchise and especially Harold Ramis and his character Egon Spengler. I was excited for us to go back to New York and have another Ghostbusters movie like the older ones and this one was not it unfortunately.
I don’t see this doing well which is a shame and who knows if we will get another one down the road. It took them decades to get these two off the ground.
I hope Ghostbusters 5 is a complete original story where we begin with the legacy characters than they die where the new ghostbusters have to bust that ghost and become a new segway for the universe
Ghostbusters 2016 was hard to top but Frozen Empire “busts” it away !
Agree. Additionally, there were scenes in the trailer not in the movie such as the team on the roof and one of the characters being frozen.

Just got out of it. Feeling like the only one who REALLY enjoyed it and the new things they introduced into it.
I thought this movie was fun and I really enjoyed it. What made me sad was there was 5 people in the theater and 2 of them where my kids. It’s also spring break and kids where out of school.

i saw it and enjoyed it. I think it was well done and well written. it even reminded me of the old cartoons.
I just watched it today. It starts out good, then begins to drag, then it drags, begins to get better, gets better, and ends pretty good. Overall, it’s pretty good. I think the director is still learning the ropes, building the characters, and I hope it continues.

Honestly, Gozer and Vigo were defeated in about the same amount of screen time as Garraka, but those felt so much more fulfilling. I still can’t put my finger on it. When the movie ended, it just felt like wait, what just happened??

I think it’s about where you’re from in the country. Because you may not be in a major city or on the East Coast or West Coast you didn’t get marketed to as much. There is a ton of marketing for the movie out here in Los Angeles.
I liked afterlife better. Some concepts of it were neat visually. I just feel the first one was better written.

This was a competent, and fair review far more than most of the channels I’ve been seeing the last two days. Most of these channels really just want the OG GB’s cloned and deaged so they and only they can be the Ghostbusters from here until eternity.

Spoliers ahead: Personally it was a good movie but it had some things missing like Dana and Louis i really wanted to see some sort of cameo or mention of them like i hoped that Oscar was in the movie the son of Dana and maybe even a son of Louis. But i feel like Bill Murray deserved more then like 7 min or something of screen time really wanted to see him with Dana or something to expand his storyline from Ghostbusters 1,2 and the post credits scene of Ghostbusters afterline. Podcast in the movie is really underused and he doesnt really have anything to do in the movie he deserves better he doesnt even have a ghostbuster Name on his suit
It’s a very fan centric film, and as a huge Ghostbusters fan I love that, but I agree with what a lot of critics are saying, the cast is wayyyyy too big.
Finally a review I can agree with. I think it's a fun movie that isn't perfect but decent. I'm glad I saw in the theaters.
I wish they put Casper ghost in these movies , like he is from the same universe, something epic , maybe he was part of the team.
