Very interesting video, thank you. An alternative to an Earth gong, something with a similar vibe but it's own distinct character is the Oetken 32" Komet. I bought a 32" Komet #2 recently and playing that is like exploring underground caverns that talk back to you!
Have you any idea when Paiste started to reduce the hammering on SC gongs? I have tried to confirm with Paiste directly but they don’t want to talk about it…. From dated picture’s and videos I can find it would suggest that the hammering process was reduced sometime around 2010. If you can find an older 32 inch SC gong to compare with a new one that would be an interesting comparison.

Gongland- Deep, mysterious, very long sustain
TOL- Balanced, more predictable
Paiste- Too brassy ,splashy sound .
WINNER-GONGLAND
Gongland always wins!
