  • Day 2 of 21 days of sound meditations.
    Today's sound meditiation features a Paiste 38 inch Sound Creation Earth Gong which is known for creating a deep, mysterious, multilayered sound.
    Guidelines for your Meditation
    Find a safe and comfortable place to sit and listen to the sounds using headphones or good quality speakers.
    Sit in a position that feels good for you, straighten your back and feel your body supported by the chair, the floor
    Rest your hands palm up on your knees, with your forefinger and thumb touching, while the other three fingers are open
    When ready close your eyes and say silently to yourself
    I am grounded
    I am safe
    I am loved
    Take a few deep breaths noticing how your body naturally rises and falls with the inhale and exhale, feel that familiar rhythm of the body moving as you breathe in and out
    If you've been feeling anxious try extending the out breath so you breathe in for the count of 4, hold for the count of 2 and then breathe out for the count of 7 and do this again three times and return your normal way of breathing.
    Now you've begun to feel more relaxed with your breathing turn your attention to the sounds and listen to the different harmonics
    If for any reason you become distracted by thoughts or a sound from outside then focus again on your body breathing, feel the familiar rise and fall of your body and when you feel settled return your attention to the sound of the bowl
    When the meditation is finished take a moment to focus on how you are feeling, notice any thoughts, how your body feels and then gradually bring some movement back into your body perhaps rubbing your hands gently together, having a stretch by lifting your arms above your head, do whatever you need to be fully back in your space - drink some water

    In the first two minutes it sounds like a Moog Synthesizer (Triangle waveform).

      Thank you John - it was the first gong that Jurek bought years ago and we are still discovering different harmonics - best wishes Pam and Jurek

      @@sound-and-silence Thanks for the info. Over the last several years I was thrilled to obtain two used Paiste Earth gongs, a 38" and 32", and they were the older darker sounding ones with the three holes so I was very pleased to say the least! I think they were played a lot and hit hard though so I think some sensitivity has been lost (the surfaces are a little more concave than I suspect they were when new) but they both still sound reasonably amazing, especially the 38"! ;-)
      I just noticed today that Paiste has come out (almost a year ago) with a series of ten bronze 28" gongs that are all quite unique. Check them out if you haven't.
      Peace and hugs!

      @John L Rice and now I'm wondering what it would be like to have a 38" and 32" and play them together 🙂 they are so different from the other gongs to play.
      We've collected a few gongs over time including some of the Paiste (my first gong was Chiron), a Broeder Oetken gong, a Gongland Gong from Rolf-Nietsch, couple of chaus and a 40" Windgong - we were playing in some big halls a couple of times a week and found it useful to mix them up - it's nearly a year now since we were able to play in the community spaces as many of them have remained closed since March. I miss playing out and about - hopefully it will happen again this year. Yes, to the bronze gongs - haven't hear any in person but various people including Jens Zyger, Michael Bettine and Paul Ford have them and put up videos of them - I understand one of the Paiste dealers here has had a delivery in the last couple of weeks.
      Notice you're in America have you been able to get out and play? Best wishes Pam and Jurek

       @Sound-and-Silence Resonant Healing Wow, you have a great selection of gongs! 👏😎👍 I tend to do more sound exploration/Avant Gard/"what ever my mood it" stuff and I usually don't focus on being classy and healing like you guys, at least I don't try to make recordings in that sense. (I often spend some quality time with my gongs for my own peace of mind though!) I have a lot of gongs now, probably close to 50 but I have two different octave sets of small tuned gongs so that's half of them right there. Besides the 38" and 32" Earths the other big gongs I have are a 44" chau and a 36" wind. And then there's the 28", 24", and 20" Paiste Symphonics, 28", 26", and 22" Zildjian Turkish gongs, two 26" chau gongs (one with a custom hole in the middle), a 22" wind, and several other various small gongs.
      I've only played live with gongs a few times in the last several years. I've mainly been doing modular synthesizer performances and a couple times I brought out a gong or two. And like you I haven't played out live since the first week of March. 😔 Below are a couple videos you guys might enjoy if you are bored? 😁 The first is audio from a live radio performance I did on March 6th 2020 and I used a few still photos taken at the time and some video effects clips to make a video out of it for my channel. (the gong had a contact mic on it and I was mainly processing it through sevveral guitar pedals) The second video is just me in my home studio messing around, again with some video processing for fun. In the second video I play both the 38 and 32 Earth gongs but they don't sound radically different to me, just the 38" is more awesome? ;-)

    Nice! Which flumies do you recomend?

    • @sound-and-silence
      @sound-and-silence  Год назад

      I have different flumies which seem to resonate with me at different times - the best quality that don't leave any marks are a set of three I have had for years from Tone of Life and then I have various sizes of Bear Love flumies - they are clean and reliable and do the job but can be expensive. I do like a small cheap super bouncy ball I bought from a supermarket then pierced with a bradawl and stuck a wooden chopstick in as a handle - sometimes it leaves marks when I use it but I simply clean them with a microfibre cloth, there's something very rounded about the sound. Which flumies would you use? Best wishes - Pam and Jurek

    What size is this and what’s the difference between this and a planetary earth?

    • @sound-and-silence
      @sound-and-silence  3 месяца назад

      Good questions - if you click on the video description of videos you will get more information. This is a 38” Sound Creation Earth
      The sounds from a sound creation gong (SCG) are quite different, they are made differently - if you look at the surface of a SCG you can visibly see this.
      I suggest you search on the Paiste website for description of both types of gong or search you tube for a planetary earth gong and hear the difference
      Hope that helps best wishes Pam

      It’s a Paiste 38” - this was Jurek’s first gong and although we’ve had it and played it for years it can still surprise and delight us with new sounds. - best wishes Pam

      Yes - we have two larger size B Love flumies and 5 smaller white headed flumies from Tone of Life. Best wishes Pam and Jurek
