I used to use meta builds because i was terrible at the game but now im better i like some variety and making more interesting builds. I think meta builds are so common because new people get destroyed by some metamancer and is like "oh i wanna be like that" which starts an infinite cycle of the new people becoming metamancers and making the new people after them metamancers.... it never ends. Another factor is youtubers. I know its not their intention, but a lot of people see youtubers making the new "meta build" and a lot of people will make those builds. i really hope this game gets balanced some day but for now we have no hope...

Meta builds have little variety because its to easy to amplify your damage which allows you to spend several points into sustain with little damage drawback
one gripe i have that kind of adds on to what you said about risky moves, Ghost and risky moves share the same cooldown, and you normally don't need both at the same time so it feels like a waste having them be on the same cooldown. I love observation and safety dance as it allows me to roll cancel instantly and get an attack off faster. This gives more variety to your m1 swings and makes it harder for your opponent to deal with muscle memory vs visual reaction.
@ the scaling difference between 99 and 80 has no difference, your talents are unoptimized either way and no one goes safety dance as the frames are placebo

Unc, Pve is different than you imagine!! 1st: The best for bosses are mages because of their high dmg movestacking 2nd: Blindseer is better for deluvian than for bosses because it has a big windup on its only dmg dealing mantra 3rd: M1 builds are right now on a different lvl than mages, because mages deal more dmg in general so the Pve meta is mage builds like “Sweeping spector” or “Tempest Tyrant” But for boss killing the meta is m1 - mage - hybrid. 4th: The best weapons for Pve are Pale briar, Evanspear Handaxe and enforcer axe! Pale briar for Aoe, Evanspear for deluvian and enforcer axe for bosskilling! Also if you have crazy slots you could use it. For mages a basic battleaxe is better then a hero btw. 5th: You can also use arcwarder for deluvian :)

the addition of shrine of order gives us infinite variety for builds but it ironically it ended up making the LEAST creative and original line of builds (55 charm 40 strength 40/75 agility pre shrine, 90 fort 40 wp post shrine, 80 wep; 25 wep/80 element, boom) (p.s i didnt watch the video so i dont care if my opinion overlaps with yours)
i wish more people would try to follow their dream build instead of using the meta because everybody uses meta, its impossible for UNIQUE builds to stand out and win any fights when its not completely min maxxed sadly
I feel the second reason there’s no variation of build is because if you wanna make a fun build it’s gonna suck in PvP and PVE. The devs added so many extremely hard PVE mechanics that you must have a pve build like a fun build will never have a chance in diluvian. And when it comes to PVP there still a chance to win but when you have someone who has a build that you can’t lock down you screwed
My blueprint for my buils is usually 40 str 30 frt 75agil 0 int 40 will 1 char 1 med and 1 atunement usually gale get reinforced armor post shrine and jetstriker 80 atunement and 39 medium for gale legs or katana

Blindseer got gutted cause of pvp cheese for dawnwalker to run the pve streets (the devs also hated blindseer being good I remember the first nerf of it was literally getting less pve scaling/dmg cause uuuh idk but then we got radiant dawn doing exactly the same but even bigger and better and it's still up there)
i have done ALOT of research for making build myself instead of listening to the youtubers that make meta builds because its alot better to do the research yourself since i have found so much stuff that is actually really good that most people dont do for meta builds meaning i can make a meta build without using a meta template or anything like that but as always 40 str and 50 fort is pretty much always a must have (and idk what your talking about for pve builds since if you do anything other than diluvian or hellmode you wont ever go brickwall since you can get like literally so much more dmg instead for boss killing or just general faster mob killing and with oaths if your going anything other than a brickwall build for diluvian or hellmode your probably not gonna go dawnwalker and instead go something like linkstrider, chainwarden or arcwarder for the mantra slots)
The reason every pvp build is the same is because those talents are the best, making a build without those talents will more than likely lose to the ones that do and there would be no point so might as wel
highkey dvm and rvm might be the worst thing in the game. bloats stats, makes pve builds that have to run them helpless in pvp scenarios, and makes it so that feedback on pve balance is ridiculously skewed because the only people running those events with consistent success have like +60% damage vs monsters
Also artificially seperates pvp and pve builds for 0 reason, makes pve content worse because with so much damage the only real challenge is monster spam
0:45 sure this build archetype might have been used by the "number 1 godseeker" but the stats are completely different for one its a stall build so 6 vitality is the norm - the entire gimmick of ice dagger/rapier is to abuse ice smash into ice eruption - in the typical version(s) of this build you have reinforced armor along with grand support - you would also run vamp and spit off cd/reinforce off pestilence to abuse healing - intel is really only good on mantra reliant builds/when you have extra points 1:49 80 frost is basically all you should go and if you're going to go above that at least get 100 for unyielding frost - attunement scaling past 80 has already been debunked to be a minimal difference - the extra bloodless scaling you get is pretty much unnoticeable compared to the sustain this build already provides - imo there are better things you could put those 19 points into 2:06 i do agree that a lot of builds look alike but at the same time 90% is pushing it, especially with that specific stat order 2:18 nobody really overrates risky moves i mean it's a required talent for ghost and you would probably go observation and safety dance if you're 25 agil 2:38 the whole reason why the ghost tree is so used is because you get a free pressure reset every 18 seconds also helps with dodging multi hits but both of the agil trees are fine and its preference in the end 3:54 you usually always get 40 willpower for exhaustion or at least 30 if you're going reinforced armor or 25 for disbelief - intel is not as common in comparison to some other attributes - mage builds are definitely meta especially the cheese ones 5:12 agree 5:30 definitely not the only sidegrades but i agree theres not a lot - bulldozer v dazing finisher - tough love v narcissist and overcharm tree - everchanging vs rtda - mtp v ether overdrive however this does not mean the only potential things for build variety is what mutually exclusive talents you pick 😭😭😭 6:17 what you're talking about are hell mode/diluvian builds in which the latter requires brick wall or you die instantly but then again most pve builds are diluvian/hell mode builds because you need the talents they provide to do the mode they are for (bosses can be killed by any build) 6:58 naturally you would use the weapon type that dealt the most damage per m1 - it may be the best but its not the only viable thing - grim rapier has been used in the past to 1 cycle chaser - diluvian mage builds are just stat checking mobs with mantras and payback (the weapon you have legit makes no difference besides on no mantra waves, and you can entirely void no mantra waves by venting off the effect with water off a duck's back 😭) but yeah the choice are really limited (evanspear, enforcer weapons, pale briar, cslots) 8:23 agree 10:32 100 hp is a huge difference but i agree about the issue with godkits in both pvp and pve - pve just feels dry once you have a good kit because you stomp through everything - a lot of people i know including myself cashed in on 4x chest week doing diluvian and theres legit no point of pve anymore (atleast for loot) - statchecking in chime is also very common especially in lower elo - even in higher elo with how storm works 11:37 agreed in the end theres a lot of problems with meta builds but just being better than your opponent offsets that unless they're on cheese like you mentioned overall this is a good video shining a light on the problem with deepwokens meta thanks for making it
im not gonna say the build you showed for pvp isnt meta but most people I know dont run specifically the absolute meta stats (also everchanging aegis is ass imo) these are also viable in pvp - reinforced armor - uncapped mantra pen - berserk + skyshatter kick or any other blunt wep talents str gives - heretics (kindaaa?) - all the dead gods (almost always gotten alongside heretics) - jetstriker or assassination tree even tho its not meta anymore - alloyblood (or any of those really high investment attunement talents) idk shit abt pve builds tbh I js stole some random skipper build then remade it for my pve build im ngl
how to increase build variety: MAKE MORE TALENTS, it does not make sense how point investment works right now. Putting 100 into charisma does not get you any decent talents compared to putting 55. Putting 100 points into intelligence does get you any decent talents compared to putting 45. Putting 100 points into agility does not get you any decent talents compared to putting 65. Willpower has pretty much NO talents other than piercing will and does nothing to change how you play. This is pretty much same for fortitude as there is only a small handful of good talents. Strength is the only stat that I think does this well as there are multiple high investment talents that can make a build play differently than others. The Devs need to start treating stats like attunements. Each attunement gets plenty of talents at all levels of point investment. A handful of these talents create branching paths and let the player choose how they want their attunement to function. The rest of the talents give the player a feeling that they are getting better at using their attunement and can use it for more. How this would work: Each stat would get a decently strong legendary talent at about 40-75 point investment, like ghost and dazing finisher. These talents would be designed to create a small change in how build would be able to fight. These talents would each be decently strong but not would completely overshadow the others..
I can't really blame people for running the meta, it's the easiest and most effective way to get elo if that's your goal. Personally, I like making builds so I don't bother, but if I didn't enjoy it I would be metamancing too.

I disagree on silentheart the real meta on silentheart is charmcaster whether it be JUST 25 -55 with allure, or 75 for constant procs for chaotic charisma, 20% dmg reduc. 100% pen builds are scams heretic sutra sucks all silentheart builds should use chaotic charisma you can even get mantras at 90 charisma

99 frost because im using mantra scaling to stack my bloodlesses for sustainability, this is literally a build used by the finishing #1 godseeker last season
Its less so that I'm concerned about the opinions of youtubers and such and more that I'm desperately trying to research how to not immediately die getting voidwalked while minding my own business. No matter what I do I do no damage and take a ton, even when im hitting more hits and dodging better.

Relying on knowledge of talents is major overwhelming and me and my friends are trying to figure out how to do all this but the info's so spread out (not to mention a ton of misinfo lol) Even when I dump stat things it feels like you gotta know this niche thing in the corner of the map you'd have no hope of reaching on ur own without the wiki (u got void walked at level 5 immediately) It's like the issue with games for some reason balancing their games around the fact that wikis exist so no one can just play the game and figure it out.

I honestly think that the meta is kinda stupid right now... not as in boring but also as in mid How cant anyone think of something else, the current metas are so boring... For example, weapon based blindseer builds? Youre basically making them able to use their mantras half of the time and you have a stronger weapon anyway so youre probably in a better position anyway People will tell me "oh this wont work" I dont really play dw rn i just make builds (and check update logs), my friend has tried it and he really likes it, he beat a friend who can usually 5 bar him And sightless beam is also really good anyway There are other things too although cheesier and some people use them already I would also include saltchemist but i feel like thats a very boring mage oath because all of the builds i make with it are high/100% pen mages with very effective potions and pretty much same stat layout every time
can they actually balance talents literally every build runs the same couple talents they keep balancing weapons and mantras but neglect talent balancing like can we get a new meta for talents? Just adding new talents wont fix this either if you added a 50 strength talent for example it would just be a buff for the 80 strength talents since you can just get both so make more dual requirement talents

what you're talking about are hell mode/diluvian builds in which the latter requires brick wall or you die instantly
but then again most pve builds are diluvian/hell mode builds because you need the talents they provide to do the mode they are for (bosses can be killed by any build)

- it may be the best but its not the only viable thing
- grim rapier has been used in the past to 1 cycle chaser
- diluvian mage builds are just stat checking mobs with mantras and payback (the weapon you have legit makes no difference besides on no mantra waves, and you can entirely void no mantra waves by venting off the effect with water off a duck's back 😭)
but yeah the choice are really limited (evanspear, enforcer weapons, pale briar, cslots)

100 hp is a huge difference but i agree about the issue with godkits in both pvp and pve
- pve just feels dry once you have a good kit because you stomp through everything
- a lot of people i know including myself cashed in on 4x chest week doing diluvian and theres legit no point of pve anymore (atleast for loot)
- statchecking in chime is also very common especially in lower elo
- even in higher elo with how storm works

im not gonna say the build you showed for pvp isnt meta but most people I know dont run specifically the absolute meta stats (also everchanging aegis is ass imo)

- berserk + skyshatter kick or any other blunt wep talents str gives
- heretics (kindaaa?)
- all the dead gods (almost always gotten alongside heretics)
- jetstriker or assassination tree even tho its not meta anymore
- alloyblood (or any of those really high investment attunement talents)

how to increase build variety: MAKE MORE TALENTS, it does not make sense how point investment works right now. Putting 100 into charisma does not get you any decent talents compared to putting 55. Putting 100 points into intelligence does get you any decent talents compared to putting 45. Putting 100 points into agility does not get you any decent talents compared to putting 65. Willpower has pretty much NO talents other than piercing will and does nothing to change how you play. This is pretty much same for fortitude as there is only a small handful of good talents. Strength is the only stat that I think does this well as there are multiple high investment talents that can make a build play differently than others.
The Devs need to start treating stats like attunements. Each attunement gets plenty of talents at all levels of point investment. A handful of these talents create branching paths and let the player choose how they want their attunement to function. The rest of the talents give the player a feeling that they are getting better at using their attunement and can use it for more.
How this would work: Each stat would get a decently strong legendary talent at about 40-75 point investment, like ghost and dazing finisher. These talents would be designed to create a small change in how build would be able to fight. These talents would each be decently strong but not would completely overshadow the others..

I can't really blame people for running the meta, it's the easiest and most effective way to get elo if that's your goal. Personally, I like making builds so I don't bother, but if I didn't enjoy it I would be metamancing too.

I disagree on silentheart the real meta on silentheart is charmcaster whether it be JUST 25 -55 with allure, or 75 for constant procs for chaotic charisma, 20% dmg reduc.

@@Reaconteur it really isnt because the base level axe doesn't do much on gale pves because on fists you can get the shield I forgot the exact talent name but it gives you a 30% dmg reduction

For example, weapon based blindseer builds? Youre basically making them able to use their mantras half of the time and you have a stronger weapon anyway so youre probably in a better position anyway

I would also include saltchemist but i feel like thats a very boring mage oath because all of the builds i make with it are high/100% pen mages with very effective potions and pretty much same stat layout every time

can they actually balance talents literally every build runs the same couple talents they keep balancing weapons and mantras but neglect talent balancing like can we get a new meta for talents? Just adding new talents wont fix this either if you added a 50 strength talent for example it would just be a buff for the 80 strength talents since you can just get both so make more dual requirement talents
