I know he was one of the hardest working character actors of the 50’s and 60’s and appearing in countless tv shows. I think he was an integral part of the show, the Dukes. And he made people laugh and forget their worries even for a few minutes.

I am so thankful for this show.
When I was watching the original airing of the episodes I was between 9 and 14. I lived in a small town. We had a lot of dirt roads. The people in my town were good middle class people that shared the values of hard work, honesty, justice, doing the right thing, and so on. It related to my own childhood experiences and to how I was being raised. I loved the episodes.
But now as an adult the show lives on. There are the reruns, the DVDs, the streaming video. There have been and continue to be Dukes of Hazzard shows. Now we all get to hear from John on RUclips. But all this brings back the memories of seeing the shows for the first time. And that brings back the memories of my childhood when things were much simpler. And that reminds me of the good values that most Americans believed in that made our country great.
It has been a pleasure introducing my children to the Dukes of Hazzard and seeing them enjoy it. And with luck I will be around when it is shared with my grandchildren.
But here we are, more that forty years later. Not only do we watch the show. We celebrate it. We discuss it. We sing the theme song. And it entertains us just like it did decades ago. It brings back memories of what was. And it inspires us to create new memories with love of our country, respect for each other, and good clean fun.

Growing up in Burbank my neighbor worked on the show and occasionally would have a few of the set cars on a trailer....one day he knocked on our door and the General Lee was parked in front of my house.... the excitement and joy of a 7 year old boy, I still can feel it...not to mention the bragging rights I had once my mom developed the film...those pictures went to school for show and tell! The pictures are still with me today, 40 years later!

I remember that episode and how Roscoe was so upset and Uncle Jesse put his hand on top of Roscoe's and comforted him. I think we fans always knew that Roscoe did not "hate" the Duke boys and that episode sealed the deal on that one. That's one thing that annoyed me with the remake of the show, Boss Hogg and Roscoe did hate the Dukes and it made it seem to dark that way.

    • @aslanmonn86
      @aslanmonn86 4 года назад +4

I think it's sad, Roscoe's case. He doesn't hate the Duke boys, he's just doing his job! He's the sheriff, Hogg is the boss, and Roscoe has got to do what the boss says. But I think it's all sad how that worked for him.

    • @alabamahebrew

@Leo Peridot that's because they were not wanting the audience to really hate anyone on the show, even the bad guys. It was a comedy show and Roscoe and Boss Hogg played their part in keeping the Duke boys busy and keeping the viewers entertained. If you think the show is stupid why are you on this video making a comment? I will never understand it when people do that, they don't like the subject matter of a video and yet they take the time to watch the video and then get in the comment section to let everyone know that they think the subject matter is stupid, but really who ends up being the stupid one? Yup, the person making the negative comment.

I can remember watching it as a kid and I remember when James (Rosco) recited his line well holding the CB "the Duke boys done gone in the pond", then when Sonny ( Enos) came out of the water completely distressed asking Rosco to help him and Rosco replied "I can't Enos, I can't swim". Another great video John.
Let me nominate another episode. It is my favorite. If I were introducing someone to the Dukes of Hazzard it would be the first episode I would show them. It is "The Great Bank Robbery (S4,E06). It had a good story and a lot of funny scenes.
    (1) Boss Hogg at the Boar's Nest when he realizes it was his bank that was robbed and his pork chops were gone.
    (2) The scene in Boss's bank when Bo and Luke were trying to return the money. Bo turned on the fire alarm and sprinklers. In chasing the boys Roscoe runs into Boss and they both flips over the partition. Then, after the sprinklers were turned off, boss accidentally shoots a shot gun into the ceiling and reactivates the fire sprinklers.
    (3) The scene at the fire when Boss Hogg realizes his bank is unguarded. As Boss takes off running toward his bank Jesse puts a ladder in his way and he flips over it.
I could go on and on about the great scenes, the action, and the comedy. But that is my favorite episode.

Yeah, for God's sake if you love this show, get the series on DVD before WB stops making it or decides to pull all the boxed sets from retailers...OR WORSE decides to edit/censor them in some way....I think Walmart has the Entire Series in one boxed set for about $80... I had to complete my collection with individual boxed sets as that's how I originally started buying them.

Iirc that was the 2 car thieves hiding in the grass, not john and tom. General Lee was stolen while Bo and Luke were skinny dipping which was why their clothes were found but not their bodies. The 2 car thieves crashed into the pond while trying to get away from Rosco and Enos.

@@vicepresidentmikepence889 It was The War of Northern Aggression. It was over the Morrill Tariff. Lincoln killed nearly 700,000 Americans over taxes. The first American slave owner was a black man. Anthony Johnson (b. c. 1600 - d. 1670) was a black Angolan known for achieving freedom and wealth in the early 17th-century Colony of Virginia. He was one of the first African American property owners (tobacco farmer) and had his right to legally own a slave recognized by the Virginia courts. North Carolina's largest slave holder in 1860 was a black plantation owner named William Ellison. In 1830 there were 3,775 free black people who owned 12,740 black slaves. Most slaves brought to America from Africa were purchased from black slave owners. American Indians owned thousands of black slaves. There was never a ship that flew the Confederate flag that purchased slaves, only the American flag. There were well over 30 thousand black men that fought for the south not to mention Indians, and several nationalities, now read the emancipation proclamation, Lincoln ONLY FREED SLAVES IN SOUTHERN HELD TERRITORIES, not the northern slave’s, the war was all about taxes and tariffs, the South was founding over 80% of the government, Lincoln was asked once why not let the South go in peace, Lincoln replied “and who would pay for the government All the men that died were protecting their land and families from tyrants that wanted to control their industries, farms, waterways, taxes etc. We were invaded. They not only killed women and children but some were taken back up North (black & white) and sold into slavery.. They were ordered to burn our history books, destroy all crops, farm animals etc... Its pretty amazing so many people think the south was full of slave owners. There were some, black and white, but the south was mostly poor. Many whites were descendants of Irish slaves who were far less valuable than black slaves. They were not as strong.. Sharecroppers...A good chunk of the South is Scots-Irish, hence why the cross of St. Andrew is part of the Confederate battle flag. The culture of the South is strongly Gaelic as opposed to Yankees which come from English Puritan stock. It explains a lot of the cultural divide. Some of us were handed down the history from our ancestors. It is not at all surprising its the opposite of what is taught in schools, propaganda seems to be the case with most things these days. The Victor Writes History & The Devil Is A Liar. Of course they started in The Bible Belt.
Its the exact same thing happening today while they destroy the nation, they also shove their fake narratives down our throats. If you believe the propaganda you have been taught by your government/schools, or see on TV, you are still a slave. They are controlling your very thoughts and emotions.

John, not sure if this has ever come up before, but here is one I’ve always wondered about. You and Tom always got in and out of the General Lee through the window opening. ( I guess ‘cause the doors were welded shut) with that said, you can clearly see the door is not welded, and the door gap is present, between the front and rear quarter panels. The door handles are also present. Had it ever come up in the series to Bondo up the outline of the doors?

I still enjoy the Dukes of hazard. And I'm 49 now! I like to pick the episodes apart and look for mistakes. In an episode I watched recently the boys had to prove that they could handle a tractor trailer. In demonstrating driving skills in reverse I'm sure I noticed the truck had run the course foreward and then the footage run backward at higher speed. The truck was backing up at high speed through wet tire tracks that were already there. The Dukes was the greatest show ever. Keep the videos coming!
