      Def, could def use this. I overpack because I am always cold. Also a bit of a challenge (though I really loved this as when I think of it I can probably do something similar with my wardrobe) how would you do this with a) diffrent personal styles b) a riot of colours c) big conference where you are the speaker - would you change anything?

    For travel, I usually pack a capsule with 2 "main" colors: blue and white for summer, beige and black (or gray and black) for winter. But then, I play with "values" of the same color. The whites can become ecru or flax, and the blues vary from navy to royal. The grays appear in a range, from charcoal to silver-dove, the beige moves between cream and camel, and for the black, I rely on varying the silhouette and texture to bring interest. As you wisely said, accessories make a difference. I choose contrasting ones: white sneakers or blue-printed ballet flats. Black ankle boots or brown riding boots? I add a scarf, and one piece in a complimentary pattern (a shirt with gray stripes or black-and-white houndstooth in winter; a printed silk top or a flowy dress in shades of blue in summer) and voila, I have all I could possibly need, in an infinite number of combinations.

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 9 месяцев назад +2

      @autumnzellers3855 Thank you! I find that if I have 2 main colors, I feel there's enough variety for my taste, while keeping things incredibly simple: dark with dark, dark with light, or light with light. (Winter: Black top and bottoms, cream top and gray plaid bottoms, white top and light tan bottoms. This will make at last another 6 combinations for a total of nine. Add a jacket, 2 scarves, and an awesome wool hat, and it looks like I packed 2 suitcases, when in fact, it all fits in a large tote bag.)

    I would love a video on how you take care of your pieces when you are traveling with a small capsule. Do you launder? Do you have a refresh spray? Steam or iron? I think that would be really helpful to know how to refresh items so you aren't wearing something wrinkly or sweaty.

    I am currently vacationing in France and I never check bags because I’m terrified they will lose it. Unfortunately the first day of our trip was delayed 24 hours because of airplane mechanical problems. Our flights were all rescheduled 24 hours but several people on the flight that had checked their bags were told that they weren’t sure where there luggage was. This just confirmed for me to NEVER check bags.

    • @joeychen3946
      @joeychen3946 8 месяцев назад

      I have the same fear. My check-in bag is always for things like toiletries, hairdryer (I always travel with my own because I hate the low-powered ones in hotel rooms) - things I can afford to lose. My clothes go in the carry-on. I've spent years curating my wardrobe...it would hurt me to lose any of my clothes.

    • @Pluscelamemechose
      @Pluscelamemechose 8 месяцев назад

      Sometimes you have to check a bag at the gate. I have an under seat roller and a largish tote. I check my carry on size bag. If I'm THAT worried about my luggage I ship it via mail in the $21 boxes at the post office. I usually have a 'burner' old suitcase to check the items I buy when stateside. I'm not traveling just so I can stress about my stuff. I do like to watch videos to see what other people take that I might like.

    Learning: Always bring a skin-tight layer along with a bigger-loose layer so as to have layering option. And really enjoyed this video with your thought process re. a capsule carry-on/travel. I normally pack, oh...4 times too much clothing, mostly because I do road trips. So, why not bring all of that extra clothing, I ask. BUT, it still complicates my thinking and my car. Thank you for this video!

    Love your style and your ethics when it comes to fashion, Alyssa.
    Question for you though, why oh why do designers and brands almost always exclusively go for gold hardware on belt, purses, shoes, buttons, etc? I love your Brave belt but I only wear white gold/silver/stainless steel... Why is there no white(-ish) hardware options?
    We get a choice of colours when it comes leather and fabrics, why not in hardware?
    I can, and often do, change out buttons on coats, blazers, etc, but other hardware are so frustrating!!!

    Hi Alyssa, perfect capsule wardrobe for a long weekend. It is very challenging as we are in the transitional weather. I also choose basic neutral colours and that way I would pack around the main one colour whether it be black, gray, navy, camel, or cream /white depending on the season. As we all know, footwear takes up so much room especially in luggage. I’m a Longchamps Le Pliage fan, so my XS purses and totes have been a life saver with my carryon wheeled luggage especially for train/plane travel.🌎❤️🇨🇦

      @@andreastewart1701 It sounds like you may work most effectively with company or a team. Would you consider paying for the services of a Wardrobe Organizing Professional? Especially one whose communication style worked for you. They have the skills to see the issues more clearly than us - where emotions and 'decision fatigue' can be a factor. Typically what they would do is first identify your aims and objectives - what scale of wardrobe would you ideally like to have? They advise whether a half-day, full day, or more visits would be needed, with a quote for costs. One bonus is assisting you with pieces that could be sold - thus returning some funds back to you, if that's a consideration.

    Totally can get behind the travel capsule. Especially like the big scarf😅, so handy for so many reasons. On the whole the capsule saves a lot of space and aggravation. The only thing I would change are the jeans. I like my jeans or other bottoms to have some spandex. The wider crop leg seems a tad too casual. I’d prefer a darker wash with spandex and a straight cut. I think one gets more mileage form a tad dressier Jean. In jeans the spandex avoids the baggy knee that happens with a few days of wear in jeans without it. It also is more comfortable for me to wear. I agree with your friend..wearing the skirt for a late day get together, no matter how casual, seems more appropriate.

    Didn't you take a lighter top or T-shirt to put underneath the sweater? when I think 'layers' I immediately think of a lighter bottom + a heavier top, but maybe I am wrong xD
    Also, does it not feel heavy to layer several outerwear pieces?

    Curious what you did with your two coats after you got on the plane. How did you arrive without your trench looking like a crumpled mess? 11:00

    Hi, love your style. I was wondering if you could give some tips on how to wear blazers but more so the fit. I just purchased a blazer and although the shoulders fit it feels tight across and lifting my arms are not even an option. would I size up and give my already broad shoulders a more linebacker look or do I just suffer with the arms down look.

      This is a great question ... from what i am reading it could be because the arm hole of the blazer is too high or not big enough. This would be a lot of work but might be able to be worked by a tailor or seamstress. In general, it's easier to size up and have items altered vs. the other way around. I hope this helps!

    I live in FL and only travel to same temp climate ie Asia, MX and FL so never need coat(s) however I do use a vest or unlined blazer/jacket/cardi or scarf/pashmina for a finished piece. Please respond back for more options 🙏 Thank you.

    The problem for me with travel capsule wardrobes is the washing of the items. If you dont have tshirt to have under , close to the skin, then you will have to wash your tops especially, and also if there is only pair of pants, then what if you get stains/dirt on them, especially when travelling. In general that is my problem with capsule wardrobes, there a need for too frequent washing with that few items, and that is not ecological nor economical, unless you do it by hand every time, and I dont have time for that. So while I agree with fewer and better items, a true capsule wardrobe with only 5 -6 tops, too much washing too often… 😒, at least for me. Enjoy your time 😊

      I’ve begun to use laundromats wherever I go. Usually you will find somewhere nearby. I usually look online in advance and plan ahead. I wash small things in my room and once a week I spend a few hours of time in a laundromat. It’s quite restful actually. You can take little walks around, have a coffee. People are friendly and it has become part of my travel experiences.

    Got cut off because the chat ended... Dressing for sudden size changes - I've recently put on a bit of weight (gone up about two dress sizes) which means some of my favourite things no longer fit. So either going up/down in size over a fairly short period of time?

      @Teverell Can relate! 😉 I guess it depends on both the season and occasion. Knitted dresses have been a good option in Fall/Winter. And pieces that either wrap, have shirring elastic or alot of stretch for Spring/Summer.

    Alyssa, I absolutely love your style, it’s my preferred choice but, I find it hard sometimes to pull off the silhouettes.
    You see, I am very petite 4.11” and 115lbs, and am 58 though I feel so much younger and am told constantly that I look like I’m in my early 40s.
    I get conflicting fashion advice in regards to creating a taller stature……no cropped pants, no color block, nothing past the waist. It’s exhausting and it all makes me look boxy and frumpy.
    Any suggestions?

      A bit older at 5' 1" I find either doing a wide short top with naarrow/straight bottom, or slim top with wide bottom makes the most difference. I also avoid ditsy prints, ruffles and embelishment.

      @minarosa-diaz2592 As I was reading your gorgeous Vital Statistics 😊, I was reminded of the pinup gals from old Hollywood in the 1940s-1950s. Such as Betty Grable. Many of those ladies were also diminutive - but they were styled with all the cinematic tricks. Like hair piled up - adds an inch or two, and exposes a lengthened neck. Platform Shoes!! It's interesting that the silhouettes described by @lynnfox8376 here can also be found in the movie fashions of that 40s-50s era.

    Just came back from Mexico City and was there for 5 days. I brought 2 dresses, 1 pair of black leggings, 1 black t-shirt, 1 black sweater, 1pair of black booties, 1 pair of sandals and pajama set all in my carry-on. I wore on the plane...beige jeans w black belt, denim jacket, striped black t-shirt and tennis shoes. The thing that kills me is that I also take my kindle, IPad, cellphone +chargers and make-up bag with of course toothpaste, floss and shaver. I think I have the packing the clothes part down but how do you pack all the other stuff? Unfortunately, my bag burst on the way home from Mexico City...not because of clothets but because of chargers, etc! 😊😊😊

    What are the stocking you have on? Were they not included in what you packed? (Unless your legs are that color compared to the rest of what we can see! 😅)
