I've traveled with carry-on luggage for over a decade. I take the same amount of clothing for a four day trip to NYC as I do for a 6 week trip to Europe. I just plan on doing some laundry (I add a pouch with a stretchy clothesline, 6 clothes pins, and powdered laundry soap, or a bar of Dr. Bronner's soap).I use packing cubes, but I roll my camisoles and undies and place them on the bottom of the suitcase in the crevices between the handles. I also put my socks in my shoes to help the shoes maintain their shape. If I am traveling with my husband, we split our clothes between the two carry-ons, just in case we're forced to check one--this way we both have some clothes if the checked bag goes walkabout.
Dividing clothes if traveling with your spouse is genius. I do it too. ❤
Exactly - she was losing space by not using those crevices!
Packing carry-on only is the way to go. I did 5 countries in 30 days in Europe this summer with carry-on only, sink washing along the way and a trip to a laundromat about half way through the trip. Packing light made it easy to move between cities. Like you, I bring home memories rather than souvenirs.
Definitely the way to go Evelyn! I hope you had a wonderful time!✈🌎💙
@@FaithandFlour it was a wonderful trip.
@@kristinj7173 Hi, due to my disability we are thinking about driving; may I ask where you rented your car and how that worked out ? thanks!
Wow! Any tips for American's traveling to europe (probably Italy) for the very first time. I'm concerned about using our cell phones easily there.
@@bridgetwoodward8031 many will say to get a SIM card when you arrived in Italy, or whatever country you are visiting. They are country specific. However, my cell phone is locked so I get an international plan from my carrier (Verizon), limit my use in open wifi areas like Starbucks because they are not secure and depend on the wifi in the hotel or apartment rental. I am considering a VPN but have not committed yet.
In Europe, weight can be an issue for carry-on. European airlines usually have a strict limit, for example: on Air France, carry-on + personal item bag must not exceed 12 kg (I know because I thought 12 kg was only for the carry-on, and had to pay a fine of 40 euros for my personal item bag ). Others can limit the carry-on bag to 8 or 10 kg. Before boarding, the staff usually looks at the bags and if they look bulky, they can ask you to fit your carry-on bag in an iron frame, and if it doesn't fit, or they find out it's too heavy, you have to pay a fine. As a regular European flyer for decades, I've learned to weigh my luggage carefully before leaving for the airport. Also if for some reason there are too many carry-ons for the flight, they have the right to select a few to have them travel in the cargo compartment with the big suitcases... I've seen it happen several times.
Definitely you have to be very careful with suitcase size and weight in Europe
When I came back from study abroad I was able to do certain bags at certain weights. Then I had to redistribute the weight between 3 bags (had one packed inside another) knowing I'd have to do that. Not fun! But glad I checked ahead.
Pretty good video, but not really realistic; as underwear and socks need to be packed somewhere.
This does not apply to British Airways. There is no weight restrictions to carry-on as long as the size meets with requirement.
@@Serena_9 ba has a weight limit on carry on bags of 23kg!
Thank you. I loved your tips . I love packing cubes too. One more tip. Moisten your makeup remover pads with make up remover and store in mini plastic ziplock bag. Makes extra room in your TSA liquids bag
That is an excellent idea 🎉
genius idea, thank you!
I just bring a cleansing mini bar or makeup remover mini bar . I just dry off the bar with a dry towel then put into a storage tin or plastic bag. Ethique sells them in different travel sets for face, hair or body.
I use a roll method for clothing and have been complimented on my packing ability by airport security personnel.
Rolling is better- less wrinkles and everything is accessible without having to remove any other items as you do when things are stacked
You can use a small purse as a travel pouch in your personal item. When you arrive at your destination you can un pack it and set it up as your purse.
Thank you. I needed this. I always overpack for fear of possibly needing something. I went on a trip a month ago and being winter, all the clothes were a lot bulkier and I wanted to carry more than one pair of boots. I'd love it if you'd show us how to pack winter clothes, but I'll keep in mind this packing for warmer weather.
Before you go on a trip, pack your luggage with everything you are taking and walk around the block with it. If it's too heavy, leave some things behind.
I visit Europe every year with my husband for five weeks. I use a hard side carry-on and a smaller roller carry-on that fits through the handle. It works perfectly.
I’m going on a vueling airline flight from Spain to Florence is was wondering if the Away carry on the small one would fit? Do you know if to would. I don’t want to check in my luggage. Thanks.
What Brand is Your smaller roller Carry On?
Lucky you. That case is much bigger than our budget carriers' allowances from UK to Europe. Plus, you're not allowed a handbag so that has to fit inside the carry on as well. That's why you'll see us wearing coats with lots of big pockets on the plane!
Id put some of the small bags into the suitcase under travel cubes in the 3 hallowed spaces left by the pull handle and would leave room for a small blanket and room to tick coat and scarf in if it’s warm traveling.
Love it! Can't wait to implement all your tips!! Thank you!
In 2019 we went to London for a week and later to Italy and France for 3 weeks - four kids in tow ages 17, 16, 13 and 7 - and each of us was allowed one carry on only bc I hate baggage claim and have lost luggage before. I have been asked by many moms how do you pack so light and my answer is always "if we really need it, we can buy it" (medicines, some piece of clothing, etc) so I would rather only bring what we need. I pack socks inside the shoes to save room and I pack liquid detergent pods in a small 1C size Tupperware (Tupperware keeps them from smashing and exploding). While I do not slave over laundry when we travel, we have four kids so it piles up fast. We usually stay in apartment/condo type accommodations with a washer and I usually do one load each night and hang to dry (no dryers in much of Europe so no laundry the night before you leave or you'll be lugging heavy wet clothes on the plane). In Rome, Italy we found the best wash and fold service and on the 4th day we took two carry-ons filled with clothes and picked them up clean and folded in two hours.
We also did cheat on the way home by buying a cheap carry-on suitcase for the souvenirs and we checked that bag going home. If it got lost, we lost nothing that we didn't live without before the trip!
How do you get the liquid laundry pods through?
@@angelak9456 not sure what you mean? I’ve passed both the liquid ones and the powder ones. They aren’t more than the limit on ounces?
You can buy fabric sheets now that are detergent. And you can rip them into little squares for hand washing.
Great tips!! You are very organized! Thank you Robin!!
Lufthansa weighed our luggage coming back from Europe on 2019, lol. The lady made us turn back and check it. However the lady checking it told us not to worry because it was small and only slightly over, and that they would check it for free. ❤
Oh Robin! You are so organized when it comes to packing. You are such an inspiration!! Thank you for all the great recommendations!! Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
Thank you Mary! Hope you are doing well and preparing for a nice Thanksgiving with your sweet family! 💛🤗💛
You can also put a shower cap over the bottoms of the shoes. This will keep them from touching any garments. I always enjoy your videos....so soothing and relaxing. I am most definitely saving this video to my playlist and will rewatch it when I plan my "Grand European Tour" next September/October 2023!
Good idea Stacy! I’m so excited for you - that sounds like an amazing trip you have planned! ✈️🌎💙
Love this!!! The best video I've seen. So helpful. Thank you.
I’m liking this idea of carryon only. Thanks! For tips.
I just got back from 12 days in Europe, carry on , weight , 24 lbs , and a small 12 x9. backpack that was barely full I stuffed my neck pillow in it, I mostly used my neck wallet and left back pack in the hotels
Wow! I'm really impressed!
Thank you. Much of this I already knew. However I hadn’t realized the spiritual dimension. This is very helpful.
I absolutely love packing cubes. I just put them in the drawers of the dresser when we reach our destination. Keeps everything not only organized, but clean/sanitary. I love shoe bags as well. Another tip if you don't have shoe bags is to use disposable shower caps and place over the soles of your pair of shoes. Happy and safe travels Robin!
Great tip on the shower caps! I get a shower cap in every hair color kit I get from Madison Reed and rarely use them! Will use them now for my shoes on my upcoming trip. Thanks!
I love the shower cap tip too! I do the same with my packing cubes and wonder how I ever traveled without them! 😉😂✈️🌍💙
Hello Carol, How're you doing?i came across your profile while surfing through the site,..i thought of you being interesting to know, hope you don't mind?😊
Brush and comb in pouch, great idea.
My choice was, is and will always be *LVGUCI* , these guys are awesome. period.
We also were traveling the past 3 weeks. We were in 90 weather in SE Asia and it was hard to imagine that it was November/ December and Christmas time. Home now and much to do. I’m usually a big decorator for Christmas and host a number of gatherings. This year I’m giving myself a pass. I will get back in the swing next year but this year it’s nice to have a break. I enjoyed watching you decorate to get my decorating fix.
Omg ! Thank you so much for sharing! I loved how stylish you are. I was so worried that I wouldn’t be able to dress up on my trip! You gave me so many ideas.
I am going to Israel in December for 10 days. I needed help packing as lightly as possible. Thank you for your tips!
Love this video its very helpful!
Did I see glasses/sunglasses? Great tips! Lovely. The jewelry pouch!
Hello Robin! You are amazing with organizing everything! This video is simply inspiring ! Thank you!
Thank you Monica! 😊✈️🌎💙
Great video. Thank you!
Packing light is good but navigating through the airport without a carry on is much more better. So pack light and check your bags if you can afford to pay for checked bags. Airlines don’t delay/lose your luggage unless you check your bags at the last minute or book a tight connection.
Take a few zip lock bags. And a small roll of duct tape. Always use these for something.
I like packing cubes too. Iffy to let prescriptions, money, jewelry, anything you would regret to lose to leave your cross body bag, even if its a quick trip to the toilets.
prescription items are always under the seat!
Thanks for the content, Robin. 😁 I continue to work towards packing less for each successive trip.
I enjoyed watching your great tips for packing light! I will take your ideas and utilize them since I’ll be traveling soon for a two week stay! I’m very confident I can be successful! Thank you for sharing this very helpful video! 😊❤
I just bought this carry on duffel. Going on my first trip with it this week!
Now that is some minimal packing Robin. Well done!
Hello Donna, How're you doing?i came across your profile while surfing through the site,..i thought of you being interesting to know, hope you don't mind?😊😊
This is how I pack my personal item… two blow up pillows, one being a square pad in case I need to sleep in the airport and a huge bag of mnms and two small bags of jerky and then snacks and snacks and a fleece and a throw I can use as a blanket and a small deodorant in a handy pocket.
This is in case I get stuck from a late flight for 6/7 hours in a weird airport with no snacks anywhere in site and I have to sleep somewhere weird in the airport (meaning the floor usually) for a few hours before a connection on a 36 hour total travel time to europe with many connections and a bus ride at the end lol
Thank you for the helpful video. I agree with everything except that I usually put my reader and wallet (to purchase a meal or drink onboard) in my personal item for easier access from under the seat rather than in the carryon tucked in the overhead compartment.
Love the packing cubes. Good idea for the carryon. I always overpack. Have a good and safe trip.
Thank you Pauline! ✈️🌎💙
Great tips!
I utilize the different size zipper bags. The extra large are for my clothing. I only pack wrinkle free. Fill the bags and push out air. Use masking tape for labeling. Smaller ones can help with lingerie etc. I actually store them in my suitcase for the next time I travel. I do appreciate the travel liquids tip. I’m planning an overseas flight and it reminded me to go powder or solid when I can. Happy travels!
Thanks for this video. I’m going on a 10 day trip to Israel in March. Hoping to keep it simple
Love all of your tip Mrs robin 😀 please enjoy your trip 👍🙏
Thank you so much Georgia! ✈️🌎💙
Thank you for the informative video! I was always team carry on, but as i get older i find it harder to figure out what to pack! Your video was very helpful! :)
Thanks for the nice tips 👍
I had my luggage lost - and missed a major trip to the Black Sea, as I had not swimsuit or anything!!! It took more than 48 hours to recover the case... and then they lost it on the way back, but once I was home, I couldn't care less, I had everything I.needed at home.
Thank you for this video. I'm traveling to Europe for 10 days and will be using a carry-on and a personal "duffle" bag. It will be my first time packing using a 22 x 14 x 9 inch carry-on. I too like using packing cubes. The tips you gave for packing toiletries and make-up items was extremely helpful.
Amazing!!! I love your travel and packing strategy!!
Thank you Gigi! ✈️🌎💙
I'm obsessed with carry-on only packing videos. :-)
I'm always torn regarding whether mascara is considered to be a liquid.
I loved your video. It’s my first time. You are so classy. Thank you very much!❤❤
You are such a clean and practical packer..I grew up with a staunch mother who used coordinates. You'd think I'd have it down. Packing is an art. I don't necessarily want to wear something twice. I'm impressed you had a few pants.
Great video
Very cool very informative thanks
Yes in Europe inc the U.K. you are allowed 1 piece of cabinet luggage only. Any personal luggage such as a handbag needs to be able the fit into your cabin bag. The rules are becoming increasingly restrictive and the usual measurements now are 45x36x20 unless you are a prime flyer when I think it goes up a massive 10 cms lol. However it’s amazing how little you need to last a week and the lack of choice makes it easier to choose. Especially when flying to the sun. Don’t bother taking anything you can get and leave at your destination eg shampoo, conditioner, mouth wash, hand soap, body wash and lotion. Or get a bar of very mild conditioning shampoo and use that head to toe in the shower. Sunscreen can be your extra moisturiser during the day and a big bottle of aftersun or aloe vera from the local shop is all you need for nighttime routine. Don’t bother with perfume and stick to the fresher scent of body care. You only need a couple pairs of knickers, preferably on their last legs and you can leave behind. If wearing socks eg for a walking holiday you only need 1 pair of merino socks for the whole week being antibacterial and anti smell. You only need I bra, and 2-3 tops inc tanks + 2 shorts. If you’re going swimming the shorts can be cycling shorts along with a tank for that unless you want to pose. Remember to wear your heavy gear such as trainers or walking boots and jeans on the flight plus a 100% cotton jumper or cardigan or merino wool which is cool in the summer and warm in cooler weather. Take your solid form make up if possible as all liquids eg mascara and lipstick and gloss has to go in the 20x20 cm in a see through sealable bag. Only 10 items slowed of no more than 100mls each and a total of 1000mls. I would suggest micellar as one of these items. Also some arnica for aches and pains if you’re not used to walking. Nail varnish and remover can be purchase items at your destination. Also don’t forget to have an up to date prescription for your medication. This wee lot and a sunhat and sunglasses plus 1 pair sandals and I pair of flip flops and you are ready for your holiday ….. enjoy 🤗
The only things I would add are little soft slippers and perhaps a light robe, plus face masks since some places still require them.
Great ideas! Thank you! ✈️🌎💙
And eye shades!
Great packing tips…..your family has worked very hard over the last many, many months…..praying you have very safe and very wonderful, well deserved family vacation
Thank you so much Carolyn! ✈🌎💙
Thank you so much for this great video! I leave in 35 days for Germany/Prague for a 15 day trip that is Carry On packing only. I am very nervous because I am a notorious over-packer, but the tips from your video give me hope :)

We are heading to Europe in June and the Bernina express is on our list!!

Great ideas....but traveling in winter to Europe we needed heavy winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves too. We had some great temperature extremes so we had to be prepared with clothing for 65 F down to 30F.....Planning to travel in warm weather next time 😊

Thank you! Game changers right?! 😉✈️🌎💙
I enjoyed your video very much. However, the introduction seemed long to me. I was anxious to “get into the tips”! I also wish you had said what time of year you were packing for because that makes a difference. I do LOVE the luggage - wish I needed some new ones! 😂 One thing I keep in my luggage all the time is an umbrella and ziplock bags. And what about a swimsuit? I do swear by packing cubes and I loved watching how you put them together. I’m always curious what people wear crossing the pond. Some look so sloppy (for comfort) but you looked great.. I usually never wear jeans because they aren’t as comfortable and your boots don’t look comfort but you could always remove them and wear some soft shoes while traveling. Thanks for the video! Looking forward to your other ones! You gave me a lot of ideas for cutting down on what I pack - going to France for a month! Thank you!!
This was very helpful! One thing I would like to see is your outfits for this trip. I find that this is the most difficult thing for me, choosing clothes. Maybe this is another video :)
Thank you SO helpful!!!
You're so welcome! Thank you Jennifer!✈🌎💙
Hello Jennifer, How're you doing?i came across your profile while surfing through the site,..i thought of you being interesting to know, hope you don't mind?😊
Hi Robin - thank you so much for this great video. I’m sure it will help so many. Many years ago when I first started having to travel on my job with a large chemical company I made a huge mistake the first time. I was going to be gone for a week and I took all kinds of clothes and all kinds of shoes and it was horrendous. From then on it doesn’t matter how long I had to stay in work I would take one or two pair of black pants, Black shoes, black blazer and some different tops and scarves. Also if I bought any souvenirs or anything like that I would go to the local post office and mail them back to myself. Many stores will also do that for you then it was a fun surprise when they were delivered because I had forgotten i even bought them. Ha ha. I am late to the packing cube game. I just used them for the first time last Mother’s Day and I was so delighted with them. Since then I have convinced several of my friends to buy them also. You didn’t say where you were going but I hope you have fun and are safe. Love in Christ.
Thank you Donna! I like your strategy! I might try that next time to streamline even more. I’m glad you discovered packing cubes. They have been a real game changer for me! Have a blessed week my sweet friend! ✈️🌍💙

Absolutely wonderful video of tips. I especially like how you packed everything live. Most helpful!
One thing I always carry when I travel is zip ties. They have a million uses and are indispensable for extra security in super locking your luggage or carry on.
Yes! Zip ties are a must! My last trip to Europe, bought a couple of perfumes to bring back for my Mom, they were stolen from my suitcase as I put them in the hallway outside my hotel room for the traveling company to take them to the bus. This was the first time this has happened to me. I was traveling home from Spain.
I find that sometimes you are unexpectedly separated from your carryon luggage if the plane is full they may take it at the gate. Therefore I keep my jewelry with me at all times as well as my phone and possibly a change of underwear.
WOW...This video is just what I was looking for...and now I'm a subscriber:). Glad to have found you!
Thank you and welcome! 😊✈️🌎💙

Hi Robin! What a useful video! Thank you for showing us in detail what you are bringing and why you chose each specific item. Knowing why and how you plan on using them is very helpful! I don’t know when my next trip will be, but I will for sure skip the big luggage and use carry-on like you showed us.
You don't know how stressed I get when I have to pack for a trip, even a short one! 😨It really takes me hours, and when I’m finished, at last, I’m completely exhausted, and my suitcases are bursting at the seams! Hello Monique, How're you doing?i came across your profile while surfing through the site,..i thought of you being interesting to know, hope you don't mind?
Bon Voyage Robin! Your packing videos are some of my favorite. You have inspired me to invest in just one hard sided carry on and donate my other set of three gigantic pieces of luggage we have had for over 20 years. I cringe at the amount of things I used to pack for a trip. I remember standing at the ticket counter moving things between two suitcases so that neither of them were over 50 lbs! Becoming a minimalist has changed the way I pack and travel. I too enjoy memories and no longer collect “stuff”. Enjoy Europe! 😘
Thank you! It took me a while (and several experiences like yours 😂) to get here also. It really makes a difference and I am so grateful that I discovered the better way. God bless!
✈️🌎💙
Wow!! I wish I’d seen this over 25 yrs ago. I overpacked SO much in those days. Wheelie carry-ons weren’t an item; I just used whatever bag I had with a shoulder strap. And, there was rarely a limit on how many bags I could check and retrieve later. I was lucky that my strong teen-age son usually accompanied me so I didn’t worry about the weight of bags. But what a hassle it was when our bags didn’t arrive when we got to Venice😱 Luckily I’d packed a few changes of underwear & tooth brushes, etc. in my carry on, for both of us, so we could at least shower and freshen up before the bags arrived….which miraculously they did! Much to my surprise they were in our hotel room after we’d returned from our 1st day of touring! Amazing, right? My poor son, however, dragged my excess luggage around for me for years and years!! (I think I owe him a huge “thank you” once again, for all his hard work!!)
Anyway, I’m going to look at your links and perhaps buy some new WISE items for my upcoming trip! I also am fanatic about the color pink, so I hope I can find the same items as you!! Thanks again for this helpful video!!
These are perfect, and you pack all of the things that I tend to pack!
Also this is random, but I noticed your shoes were a little scuffed! Mine looked the same, and with a little leather conditioner, they can look brand new again - it's a great tip for leather shoes which last long and are durable but tend to et scuffed.
Thank you for the wisdom shared. Do you have a link for the light puffy jacket?
Great video. Your packing style is very similar to mine :)
Another benefit of packing only carryon to Europe is that many hotels there are older and may not have elevators. Carryons make going up and down stairs much easier.
And many of the elevators are the size of an old phone booth (did I just age myself by this reference?) or the airplane bathroom!
I love your travel out fit, and I think we have the same bench at the foot of the bed.
Thank you April! 👍😊✈️🌎💙
That’s $265 for the carryon alone! No mam I’ll check bags in but kudos to y’all
Excellent ideas dear Sister, and beautiful luggage. The only thing that got my attention is that your toothpaste and toiletries are from brands that contain harmful chemicals. Please research about those items so you don't get toxic stuff into your body. Your make up seems fine. Blessings to you and your family! 🌸🏵🌹
I was thinking of just bringing a couple changes of clothes with me and pack an empty backpack and shop for clothes when I get there.
Carry-on luggage IS weighed in Canada for International Flights, most airlines as far as I know.
Condor only allows one carry-on item and limited to 15 lbs so do your homework before travelling! Friends who recently flew to Europe on an American airline had to have one bag checked before boarding and were unprepared so inevitably didn't have items on board with them that they had wanted during the flight.
Wow what an informative video. You can sure pack a lot in those two bags, and pretty much at your fingertips at all times. My daughter used to live in Germany, and looking back I wished that I would have been more organized and not taken so much stuff. In fact I no I took to many clothes. My bags were huge. Nothing like what you can purchase today. I loved the red train going threw possibly the Alps. Have safe travels. And I guess my ticket to go with got lost in the Mail. LOL 😊 As always I am a huge Fan. See you next Sunday🍂🍁🧡
Thank you Janice! I’m glad you had the opportunity to see Germany! I had to learn the hard way about overpacking too. 😂 Have a blessed week! ✈️🌎💙
Hello Janice, How're you doing?i came across your profile while surfing through the site,..i thought of you being interesting to know, hope you don't mind?😊😊
Great video! What is the Calpak drawstring bag you put your hairbrush in? I can’t find that on their website. Thank you!
Hope you had a great trip! You are an excellent light packer. May I suggest you leave your keys at home? If you're traveling with your spouse you need (between you) only one car key (if driving to the airport) and one house key. That will cut more than a pound of weight for you. Two fun souvenirs I get are a pair of earrings to remind me of the trip and many photos. When I return I make a slide show of my favorites backed with music from the country I visited. Worst case scenario, if you need to buy an extra sweater, jacket, etc., you'll have a final delightful souvenir to remind you of a lovely journey. Bon voyage!
Americans seem to travel mostly in the summer of wherever they’re travelling to - it would be a much bigger challenge to do this if travelling to very cold weather, would be interesting to see if - or how - that can be achieved with carry-on only! Wearing a lot of clothes in flight is probably the only way!
I’ll be putting these tips into practice next week as I head to Helsinki for a work trip.
That sounds great Deborah! I hope you'll have some down time to enjoy! ✈🌎💙
