    I pack in a similar way but it does get boring using the same colour palette after a while. Also wear the bottoms for night time first when they are fresh and carry them over to the next day, rather than wearing all day. It feels dresser that way. Couldn't imagine going out for the evening in something I'd already worn all day.

    Excellent ideas. I bring a scarf or two to wear as a belt or a make shift top to wear under the blazer. Also ladies please bring panty liners to keep your pants fresh. Spent 3 weeks in Australia with a single bag. Went to plays, sheep stations, shopping and upscale dining. Yes it can be done.

    I have watched this video more than a few times over the past few years...surely I am not alone. If people think that the palette is boring, just use the pieces shown as a template of sorts. Use pieces that coordinate that are your style. I personally do not get tired of black & white, but love to throw in a camel or pink sweater, a print blouse, scarves, etc. Wearing the same bottom totally makes sense for simplicity's sake. Great info, thank for sharing, enjoy!

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 года назад +21

      Louisa, I feel the same! The beauty of using navy as a base is that it goes so well with OTHER shades of blue, it's almost impossible to find a hue that won't pair with it. With black, unless one wants to make a collection of "shades or gray", it's not as easy. My travel capsule usually has navy and lighter/brighter shades or blue, white and flax, and one or two accents, depending on location and weather. Sometimes I pack pops of red, sometimes is fuchsia or teal...but even if I limit it to "shades of blue" and "shades of white" I feel plenty satisfied in its variety in a way "black and white" doesn't. Also, I leave room to buy one locally-produced accessory wherever I go---a necklace or big earrings in a bright color, local leather or cork goods, wooden or brass bracelets, a colorful scarf or woven clutch...that way they inject excitement to my travel outfits AND become a souvenir of that particular trip once I return home. (So much better than magnets!)

    • @cynthiawhite8323
      @cynthiawhite8323 2 года назад +5

      Yes, I use navy blue or a deep purple red color as my matching/combination color with black.

    • @melissac2884
      @melissac2884 2 года назад +2

      Add me to the Navy based capsule packing. Not only does it pair well with my favorite accent color - magenta - it also pairs well with black - in fact my Tumi backpack and my travel sun hat both are two-toned with a hint of black since there are times a black sundress or pants is desirable. I use scarves to add color in a carry-on friendly way - I have a print and a solid whisper light silk/cashmere rectangle scarf that can be tied as a shawl or just thrown on to add a little color and zip to a monochromatic wardrobe.

    CJ: Love these simple ideas to maximize a week of outfits with a carryon - very doable for touring or casual trip from spring to fall. I do this for business, as well. Even winter is easy with more layers.
    Traveling once or twice every month, I've found the older I get, the more I want to do carryon only. Why? Lost and delayed baggage can absolutely ruin a business trip and my budget when I need to chase down business attire for an early morning meeting. Not fun (and sometimes not even possible, depending on where I happen to be.) The small hassle of lifting my bag into an overhead is more than worth the confidence that everything I need for my trip is with me. If I have a tight window to get to a meeting or activity, the benefit is that I can head straight for a taxi or Uber, bypassing the luggage carousel.
    More important: I have learned that tourism traveling in Europe and other international destinations requires smaller carryon bags (regional planes) and ease of movement once on the ground (trains that have two minute stops which makes wrestling large bags foolish, buses with limited storage and short stops.) Less baggage also lowers my international travel costs significantly -- since you are charged by the size and number of bags for regional planes, taxis, shuttles.
    Once I realized that the odds of a bag being lost or delayed is 1 in 250 -- and airlines don't consider a bag truly 'lost' until it's been missing for 21 days - the stress of worrying about whether my luggage would make it on quick layovers inspired me to be a lifetime Team Carryon member. There is good news. 97% of delayed luggage is found within 48 hours. The bad news is, unless you are home or planning to stay in one spot until your luggage is found, purchasing clothing and toiletries is going to have to be added to your itinerary and you won't see your bag again until you're back at the airport heading home. If I'm on a two or three day trip, this means not only do I have to buy clothing (and a suitcase to ship it home) but I won't be able to charge the airline for any or all of those costs, depending on the carrier.
    Cruise ship trips makes this even more problematic, as you're in a different location every day, sometimes in areas that make it unlikely the airline will deliver your luggage to you. Having seen meltdowns on so many trips and social media over delayed and lost luggage, I'm not willing to travel with what I can't carry on the plane or lift onto a train or bus.
    Ultimately, we all get to decide what our comfort level is for travel and bringing our necessities with us. By being creative and utilizing the tips of mixing and matching a travel capsule wardrobe can easily shift outfits from casual to evening. For me, the peace that comes from traveling with carryon luggage is worth the extra planning!

      On one trip, I actually got back my lost checked luggage back - next day!!! :-) Nowadays, I never check luggage anymore. I've transformed from HEAVY 4 bag DIVA packer to minimalist in PERSONAL BAG ONLY. AND that's even wearing voluminous plus size/2XL. what a relief!!! It helps that my only makeup is sunscreen and ChapStick. Also, I've switched from fashionista outfits to comfy, comfy, comfy. I want to RELAX during my travels - not be bothered with trying for cute looks. I'd rather pack light - and do full-blown cute looks when I'm home with all my accessories and fancy outfits... Also, I try not to lug laptop. And I LOVE the planning part. I plan and practice packing weeks in advance [I don't travel much now]. tfs!

I’d be so happy if you could do something similar for a winter trip, preferably for a really cold weather winter trip where you need thermals and lots of layers worn with a hat hat, gloves and scarf. It’s a much more challenging scenario. And I’d also love to see a carryon bag pack for mixed climates with both hot and cold weather destinations in the same trip. I’m in Australia so many of my trips encompass summer and winter packing together. All help would be greatly appreciated.

    I think your trips are much higher end than mine have been. That being said, I usually pack for 1 week no matter how long the trip is. I've done a few 3-week trips on 1 week's worth of carry-on. Although it does depend on the airline's carry-on limit (7-10kg). 3-4 bottoms and 6-7 tops, walking shoes/sandals, nicer heels and maybe thongs (flip flops). A good jacket/coat, backpack and maybe a smaller bag depending on the type of trip. Depends on where you're going, time of year and what you're gonna be doing so it really comes down to that.
    I do like how she put a bunch of stuff into a big tote for the plane. And a few choice pieces of jewellery - just keep to basics on a trip and the biggest piece of advice I could give about travel packing is take what you're prepared to lose. All that old shitty stuff that's wearing out, pack that. Because if it gets lost or stolen, it doesn't matter. It happened to me. That's how I learned to travel light.

Also, I try not to lug laptop. tfs!

    It's always good to see how to pack. It is such a chore for me to even plan what I am going to pack. I am planning a month to six week trip to England and I am having fits about thinking about what I can do to not overdo it. What you packed is good but I am not you. I would not wear what you wear. I know that on a trip what you pack and how heavy it is is what you end up carrying around. Keeping it simple is key. How many pants and how many tops and how many sweaters/jackets/coats to take? England is a mixed bag of weather even in June. You have some great suggestions and I love that mirror. I always struggle in hotel rooms with makeup mirrors.

      I’m from Australia and did a European trip which included England for around five weeks a couple of years ago. From memory I took a pair of runners, pair of Birkenstock’s , flat sandals and mid heeled mules which covered all bases. 2 pjs, so I could interchange. About 10 pairs of underwear and a light hooded showerproof jacket. About six t shirts, six pants( jeans and navy and black plants, darker colours are better. 3 long sleeve tops and a couple of hoodies and light cardigans. Take about three singlets to layer. I used space bags which kept things neat and easy to get to and also used one for dirty clothing for the trip home. I found a toiletry bag that hangs on the bathroom door a godsend, packed with essentials made for a quick start in the morning. Coming from Victoria we went in June and I found the weather pretty good about 18-22 Celsius with a bit of rain, I was never cold. Put everything out you want to wear and then take some away. Hope this helps😁🇦🇺. Obviously this was checked in luggage, I’m afraid I’m a bit of an over packer and nowhere near as organised as the lady in this video🥴
