This on a TV series called the "Farnham and Byrnes Show". showcasing John and also featured another Australian talent Karen Byrnes would have been 1979-80ish. This was at the end of his "teen pop" fame, not too long before joining LRB.

@@Anothercoverlover62 Did you find your Loves In Need reaction? I couldn't find it. They actually performed together (unplanned and unrecorded) at a Stevie Wonder concert here in Australia. John was with Little River Band and were Stevie's support act and Stevie was so impressed with John, that he had him sing with him on the last night. Then in 1987 he was at a John Farnham concert and joined him on stage to sing Amazing Grace with him.
This is a fantastic song by both legends ♥️♥️

....and here in a nutshell is why many of us (of a certain age) ignored Farnham's talents for a long time. Real rock bands ruled the live venues and we scorned this kind of gaudy TV display. But he won us all back and I don't think you'd find an Australian who'd have a bad word about him.

It might be an acquired taste, but I love the video clip by John. It has Rocky Horror vibes, which I know isn't for everyone, but for me it is heaven 😅 John is so adorable in it and I like the constant rhythm of the dancers, almost hypnotic... he hits some crazy notes in there too!!

I have never seen this video of John either. It would be in the seventies. And at this time John was smoking 2 packs of twenties.
Later in his career, when he gave it up, his voice just went ballistic !
As for comparing the two versions. It's like asking someone whether breathing above water is better than breathing below water.
Neither, they are both incomparable and both satisfying.

John's dictionary voice was great easy to understand
But lacked the passion of stevie wounder
Which is a rare thing to say about John as he always passionate
You could see with this song he was young and still lerning his craft

Really enjoying your reactions, so thank you! There are plenty of covers by John if you're looking to hear more, which hopefully you are!
A couple off the top of my head are 'That's Freedom' - John's version here: ruclips.net/video/e9PQtuqtysM/видео.html
Original is by Tom Kimmel who is a singer/songwriter from the US, there are various version on RUclips.
Another you might enjoy is classic Australian rock song 'When The War Is Over', cover by John here: ruclips.net/video/ubPdq0ejgpA/видео.html
The original is by Australian band Cold Chisel, a version that I think people like is here: ruclips.net/video/x4Wwq9_zn_c/видео.html but I'm sure Cold Chisel fans will advise if there is a preferred version!
